Jacob "My father left me to control all the crewmen of a expiditionary ship when my mom died"
Thane "I left my son when his mother died to go kill the people responsible. Oh hey Kolyat, good to see you again! Sorry I can't be a dad right now, i've got to go on a mission that has nothing to do with me, and there is a next to zero percent chance I'm coming back. Have a good day at community service!"

Jacob took an instant dislike to Thane before he even mentioned his son.

Thane murders for a living. Jacob used to make a living stopping killers from killing.

He has a plausible reason to distrust a known assassin.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's part of another one of those character fights that were cut out.

Which I'm very grateful for. It'd just feel forced.

It's all just cattyness. Jacob's jealous that he's not the pretty one.

I dunno. I just don't like how Thane finds his son starting to become a criminal, and doesn't do **** about it after they stop him the first time. I've lost a lot of friends that way

For working with an organization that specializes in assassinations, I think Jacob is a bit of a hypocrite.

Jacob works for Cerberus because they're fighting the reapers. Once htey stop doing that he's gone. He quit's along with Miranda should you decide to blow the base up. so no, he's not a hypocrite. (he also saves the councils with Cerberus).

I wouldn't have as much of a problem with Jacob's dislike of assassins if it wasn't just mentioned in passing once and then never brought up again.

Bioware Dev 1: "Ah crap, we made a character, but he's really boring! What can we do to make him a bit more interesting?"
Bioware Dev 2: "We got a fishguy, right? Isn't he an assassin?"
Bioware Dev 1: "Yeah..."
Bioware Dev 2: "Jacob doesn't like fishguy assassins. Done!"
Bioware Dev 1: "Genius! Ah, another hard day's work. Hey, you wanna go look at Miranda's ass some more?"

And you think there's absolutely no killing involved in that goal?

Pfff, please...

Jacob's a soldier, of course there's killing involved. He's just not an assasin and he doesn't kill Civilians like an assasin would. I bet if Zaeed was an on disc character Jacob would have a problem with him too especilly since he wants to let Civilians die to kill someone. being a soldier doesn't make him a hypocrite for not liking Assasin's.

Both assassins and soldiers kills because they're told to.

Assassins just happens to be more subtle about it and gets more money.

The difference between assassination and straight up killing is a matter of specificity and awareness

Because soldiers never kill civilians.

True, but a soldier is governed bya  military while an assasin is governed by money or service. Jacob says so "I'm loyal to more than just my next pay check" it's a valid point and not hypocritical in any sense.Image IPB
