I think he is interesting enough having the whole ex-alliance frustrated by red tape thing going on.

That's what makes me dislike him.  To me it's a really cheap and stupid justification for joining what is officially a terrorist organisation, and not being able to properly call him on it is frustrating.

It's because Jacob, to quote Jack, "doesn't know who he is." He should just be grateful it never came to a physical confrontation with Thane.

Special forces Vanguard versus Drell Assassin?

I certainly wouldn't bet against Jacob.

It is also important to note that Thane was raised for the soul purpose of being a killing machine. For Jacob to judge Thane so harshly, he would also have to judge Grunt, Samara, even Miranda. And what, in the end, can he say?

'You're making some ****ed up life choices by dodging responsibility. Shape up, get over it, and move on.'

Do you know why "people" hate Jacob? He's Shepard 2.0. If Cerberus couldn't bring Shepard back I damn well know that he'd be in charge of taking down the Collectors and the suicide mission. I don't think he'd be as successful but I do think he'd "live to tell about it." That and his lack of dependence on Shepard. And the Fem Shep romance. Which are all sad. Especially when he's very relate-able when RPing Man Shep.

Nothing is wrong with Jacob, not everybody needs to be a genetically engineered superhuman, alien, or kill 10 people before eating breakfast (Zaeed) in order to be cool.

Great. I've thought about it before, but now I really want to entertain the thought of how Cerberus would have gone against the Collectors without Shepard.

It's surprising just how many of the crewmates were willing to join independent of it being, well, Shepard. About the only two recruits who were unquestionably Shepard-specific were Tali and Legion, and Tali could possibly be worked around by giving her ulterior motives (spying on Cerberus) and an opportunity to avenge Shepard by fighting the Collectors directly.

Throw in the Broker's analysis that Jacob's role on the team is as a stabilizer, and a lot of the recruitment/loyalty missions do mark him as a backup.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's part of another one of those character fights that were cut out.

Which I'm very grateful for. It'd just feel forced.

Miranda-Jack sort of forced to me because there was no banter and there was no real mention of it except when you first bring them on the ship, then there was nothing until. ARGH! BLAH! CONFRINTATION!

It makes much more sense if you take Miranda on Jack's loyalty mission.

Miranda and Jack worked with me because I did their loyalty back to back, and brought them both along for their respective LM. I did pragia second, and the segue is actually really good. She goes from defending Cerberus in the mission, to continuing to do in the altercation.

Jacob loyal?  We are talking about the man that quit this military that he is so loyal to and joined a terrorist organization right?  That Jacob?

'Not staying in' is hardly the same thing as 'unloyal', Nozybidaj.

I would. Jacob craps his pants over the thought of fighting LOKI mechs and fights like crap even with Geth Plasma Shotgun.

And in good collorary to both, gets killed by weaklings a ton on his loyalty mission while Thane and I do all the work.

Yeah, and if that ain't hyperbole and overemphasis on gameplay, then Jack's a ****.

It's kind of hard for Thane to die on his loyalty mission given that there's, you know, no combat. And if Jacob dies often on yours... be a better leader.

Gameplay =/= Lore.  See: Jack.

Gameplay does not represent lore. In Galaxy Jacob has an assault rifle and wears heavy armour for example. From the lore Jacob is clearly an able soldier or he wouldn't have a place on the ship.

I hope he comes back for more than a cameo in ME3. I think he's awesome and my femshep romanced him.

Nothing wrong? Really. How about his characer? Talk to him and he puts on this cool/casual guy persona that is so phony, and he pretty much tells you nothing at all every time. What are you fighting for? Why? Any stories from serving in the Alliance? Nope. Add in that he's pretty weak in combat, so there's two things wrong.

There's potential in him, there's still hope that they make him a better character for ME3, but as of now he's quite easily the worst.

Thane on Jacob's LM.

Funny thing, Jack has very much the same skill-set as Jacob (same weapons, pull, and similar ammo power for both) but somehow, Jacob is far less reliable than her whenever I've played. Do I really need to babysit an Alliance officer, because the "pshycopath" doesn't need that special attention.

Unless you're modding one or the other... no. They aren't the same. Thane's a sniper/SMG weapon loadout. Jacob is a shotgun/pistol weilder. Jacob has pull and barrier: Thane has throw and warp. The only thing they have even in the same category is 'ammo power': one is a ranged damage dealer and the other is a Vanguard who isn't Shepard.

And this argument, again, is reflecting the error of focusing on gameplay versus lore. Again, see Jack.

It doesn't really matter, because you're still trying to treat gameplay as lore.  You just plain cannot take Jacob's effectiveness or lack thereof as a squaddie as indicative of how good he "really" is.
