Not sure why this is always being brought up all of sudden. Its been on the wiki since ME1. You'll also find this at the bottom of the page:

"The "James" referred to in Ashley's email is secretly a BioWare technical designer, who transferred to the Austin studio the day the piece was written."

She's my favorite squaddie from ME1 and I always romance her, so... yeah, that fits me in as an Ash fan, and it really ticks me off when people continually say Ash is "racist" or "xenophobic"... her fears about aliens are perfectly rational, in the same way an American submarine commander in the 1980s would be kind of wary of letting a Soviet military officer explore the newest top-of-the-line nuclear sub to come out of an American shipyard...

I don't believe she's particularly xenophobic. In my playthrough when I got to the Rachni queen she was pretty vocal about releasing her since she didn't want the extinction of an entire alien species on her conscience. Near the end though I think through dialogue choices you can influence her to see the big picture and how allying with other species is important for humanity.

And we can't forget her utter disgust of Cerberus, though that may have to do with their controversial genetic experiments more than anything.

Gonna be sad for my Shep though if she cheats on him while he's remained faithful the entire time. Poor guy.

My main Shep is usually a full-on Paragon, but if he finds out she has cheated on him... saying he is "pissed" wouldn't even begin to cover it.

It is a biblical name, which always tend do be some of the most popular.

BioWare probably didn't intend to do this, but now that you brought up this topic, BioWare might be considering adding a possible get-together with Sanders and Ash. I think it will put a plus on the drama and make things more interesting.

For my money it only makes sense. Yeah Shep is the mega awesome, but you'd think amazingly awesome people aren't ALL just going to pine away for one person. It doesn't have to become a freshman dorm, but it makes little sense for there not to be a little more...competition running around especially if you don't make a move on one of them.

It probably was created for that bioware employee reason, however the fact that they created the guys name to be James definitely makes it possible that its the same one, and its something I can see bioware doing.
