So all our fears from when the game was announced came true...

So remember back when Bioware first  announced DA2.  We all came on here and started crying at how bad it looked and how horrible all the new ideas and changes sounded.  Then Bioware people like Gaider and Laidlaw came on the forums and did there best to tell us that our fears are unfounded and the game will be very much like Origins and that we should not jump to conclusions.

Well sadly all I can say is I just can't trust Bioware anymore when they talk up their games.  Seems my gut reaction was indeed true.

See confirmation bias. That explains a lot. the rest of it is to be expected and well within the big bell curve of like and don't like.

Even the 7 gigs=shorter flamewar is justified now.

It isn't shorter, it just looks the same. :wizard:

Nice double-edged sword there.

Play it on Hard or suck it up Princess.

That's a nice try, but it's kind of missing the point, Merce- you know, forget I said anything. I don't want to get dragged into this.

Useless thread is useless.

I think the game is awesome and I like most of the changes a lot. There, my vote cancels out yours, ta-da.

We already know that all the stodgy sticks-in-the-mud hate any significant change on principle, and all the "itoldjaso's" in the world aren't going to get people who like the game to agree with you. This thread will accomplish nothing. It should die.

Confirmation bias isn't a logical fallacy, dude.  It is a psychological tendency.

How dose that even aply to what I said? I feared the game would be bad.  You told me I was being silly.  Turns out I was not being silly I do think the game is bad.

I guess that depends on what in Origins you thought was important and should be preserved. Obviously DA2 wasn't going to be exactly like Origins. But for some people it still feels like Origins, in the ways that matter to them. For you, I suppose it doesn't. But DG and Laidlaw weren't strictly lying considering that what they said can be seen as true in a subjective sense.

Did you read it ? Cause after one sentence I had no problem to see how this applied to what you said.

It seems pretty obvious to me.
You feared it would be bad.  Therefore, instead of analyzing the game objectively and rationally, your desire to be correct makes you view every change through the least charitable lens possible in order to confirm your fears (hence 'confirmation bias').  The more vehement you were about your initial projections, the more likely you're going to confirm them no matter the actual content.

In other words, you're wearing sh*t-colored glasses.

Sigh.

I know it sounded like I was assuming that this is what he was doing, but that is because I was explaining why it made sense in relation to what he said.  I wasn't assuming anything, I was only pointing out that it is an exceedingly common thing for people to do and that his statement fit the description to a T.

But don't tell me you don't think people do that all the time -- if there is one thing that will make someone cling to an argument (whether they are even that attached to it or not!), it is the idea that they might have to admit that they were mistaken.  Many people would rather stick to their guns than admit a mistake, even if they have to drudge up arguments on the spot to try and defend it.

I didn't have any fears when the game was announced, and whaddaya know, I enjoyed the hell out of it. It isn't the game I thought it'd be, but it IS a good game. I wanted to connect a bit more with my companions and I wanted more unique dungeon/cave crawls. That's it.

If I see a cold response like that then lack of empathy spins through my mind. Click the link. It explains a lot.

Can I say? BURN! ...

Oh the irony. But seriously, I also think sometimes that some people could show more empathy on these boards. Starting by me. So I apologize for being mean.

Back on thread, I think you had your reason to fear that this game would be bad. But I sincerely thought it would be good. I have mixed feelings about DA2, but I prefer it more than I dislike it.

Not all who disliked the changes and the overall game in certain ways are angry stick in the muds. I love a good game of CoD, felt that the combat of ME2 and structure for that matter was much better, except for the hubs.
Yet still I found DAII to be an inferior produced it did not deserve to be, and nothing Bioware should really be proud of, Nor should they be ashamed of it.

More like really short dev cycle, and some questionable design decisions proved to be pretty spot on.

Sure, people who expected to dislike the changes.... disliked the changes. I'm not sure how this is shocking to anyone.
