I think the problem is that the story could have had a real statement about politics, human nature, etc. Instead we got two crazies. And I think the hate towards the 'light saber' and the jumping is more due to the disappointing of the lame climax of the story than the actual animations. I mean the battle animations throughout the game are just as ridiculous, so the final battle(s) are not really that much worse.

Actually I have more hate towards the "light sabre" meme than I do towards Meredith's antics.  And that's saying a lot.  I'm not a fan of the "lulz reaper baby looks like a giant terminator" stuff but at least I understand where it's coming from.  The light saber bit is just... what?!  It's not light or any other ethereal/translucent substance, and it's about as close to a saber as a gunblade.  And while I'm not a big Star Wars fan (I saw the original 3 movies some years back, didn't care for them) I don't recognize any backstory similarity between the two.  We might as well call Hawke "John McClain" because he kills a lot of bad guys.

I love how, in a game with magic and demons, the immersion and reality of the world is shattered for people when one magically enhanced person can leap higher than 3 feet.

this is the same game where you can get picked up by a dragon and chewed on for a minute then get right back up and start fighting it again.

I'll never get it either.

The problem w/ the Meredith fight is not the super jumping, it was the rushed ending, underwhelming climax, and that the fight isn't really that difficult

I think the problem isn't so much that Meredith's dragoon-statueman powers were more unrealistic than other things we'd seen, it's that what should could do was vastly out of line with the lore we've seen thus far.

Yes I have heard people say that that it was awesome as it was different.
That it makes it all right as long as it's not just another fight like every other one, that it made it "fun".

I think what would have made it fun to me, would to see how dangerous a human pushed to the limits can be.
Orsino could have gone postal and tried to completely rip the veil like Avernus did.
Meredith could have through the insane loyalty made every templar turn on you, in an act of power mad betrayal.

There are many ways to resolve this last chapter that could have focused on the characters and their personalities rather than gimicks.

i dunno it seems more appropriate to have Leliana - a rogue - jumping up in the air like that, than having Meredith - a middle aged warrior - flying 40 feet in the air with a 6 foot sword landing on stone with enough force to crack the ground

TBH... I don't think they would set up a plot device like the idol sword and beg people to speculate as to its origin/powers/etc, and then just say they made it all up.

Then the idol existed but didn't grant Meredith the power of flight.

It sure looked like a mid-battle cinematic sequence to me. The UI goes away, both my characters and Meredith perform animations beyond my control, camera angles change to better frame it, and there's special dialogue. :?

She also does it once or twice afterwards right as the battle is happening and when it reaches certain stages, iirc. No cinematics for that or disappearing UI or anything. Or there's no cinematics when she does the same jump to return to the battlefield from her perch, can't remember.

That said i can't say it bothered me. She's clearly high like a kite on whatever that sword is giving her, so it's almost fitting she'd fly around like one. Or at least easy to overlook.

edit: ah there it is. The same video at 4:10 or so. She jumps back while the battle is going on. No cinematics. And jumps out again at around 4:50. Got bored of watching after that.

Probably because it hums like a lightsaber... and glows red, fitting for an evil character's lightsaber.
