Because Most Fanfic Writers are Girls, and Het is Ew. You'll also notice many, many Anders and Fenris fans pair them with Dude Hawke for the same reasons.

Impish answers aside, I like them because it seemed cute when I was playing through on my Lady Hawke the first time, and I like Isabela a whole lot. I didn't see a lot of myself in Dude Hawke (I liked Lady Hawke's voice better), so Lady Hawke and Isabela together just grew on me.

Actually I always thought FemHawke/Isabela made just as much sense as MaleHawke/Isabela maybe even more.
Or maybe it's just that I find FemHawke's voice veeeeery appealing and Isabela's voice is also veeeery appealing.

I prefer playing fem Hawke, she has a great voice and kicks ace. Isabella is imo one of the best characters in the series and after my initial game where I romanced Fenris I gravitated towards Isabela and have romanced her in every playthrough since. The two make a well balanced and fun couple with minimal angst which is what I prefer.
