They're not just gonna let a major character - an LI, no less - die off-screen.

Knowing the character of Thane, I'd say he's at least gonna get a chance to sacrifice himself for the greater good.

he was dying. how is him being dead a surprise? lol
curing him would ruin his character since the whole deal was him coming to terms with it and reflecting on his life.

whats he going to do if he gets cured?

He'll Keep fighting with shepard but once he's done doing that he'll become a yoga instructer

i thought there was no cure?

Not at the moment but it is being worked and I think some of the cerb news updates hinted that they had one in the works but I can't be assed tracking it down right now.

Eh I’m not sure how I would feel about Thane getting cured. Not a fan of the “oh noes this character is dying! it’s so tragic” thing and then they get some miracle cure later. It always feels like a cop out even if its a character I like.

He can be the tutorial redshirt of ME3, with an extra tragic death for those who romanced him.

Even if he'll die, surely it won't happen offscreen, so expect to see him at least one last time.

I hope Thane isn't dead. Even though I would never rank him as one of my favorite ME squadmates I do feel that he was one of the more interesting characters that we got to meet in ME1 and ME2.

Having said that, I am prepairing myself for the worse. While not unpopular his fanbase isn't exactly all that large either, he's a very middle of teh road chacrter that noone hates butvery few people are passionate about him either. And as far as I can rember Thane does not have a year left to live, it was more like 6 months so unless a cure is found soon he's pretty much a goner.

Why does everyone always think Kolyat should take his place? Feron is the obvious choice to replace him

Never liked Kolyat, there's somthing about his voice that bugs me, he sounds like a whiny spoiled brat. I agree that Feron is much more logical choice especially given his ties to the olf Shadow Broker and Cerebus, the role he played in retriveing Shepard's body not to mention his vague relationship with Liara.

I don't care about your nonsense people. I still have the "Cure for Thane" picture on facebook... god, just realised it's about time to change it.

I honestly don't understand why people want an emo Drell assassin in their team so badly. If he is dead, let him stay dead.

Ah yes, Thane wants to save Kolyat from a life of violence, death and regret so his dying wish is for Kolyat to go with Shepard and kill people.

"Ah yes, Thane wants to save Kolyat from a life of violence, death and regret so his dying wish is for Kolyat to go with Shepard and kill people."

If anything, Feron will be the "replacement drell" for when Thane dies.

For closure for Thane I'd guess that we'll have a touching moment when you can go visit him if he is dying, he asks that you make sure his son Kolyat is safe.  And if you're a female Shepard that romanced him - the emotions extend beyond just pure friendship or comrade and he might ask you to "look after" his son. Not as a mother or anything but make sure he has a good life.

Let him die. Give the Thane fans a little cutscene, generic sob story death scene if they want.

I don't like this whole "Bring back the ENTIRE team!" It's just stupid to me, I don't hate any of the characters, really, but it just makes much more sense to me to see a good number of them leave, die, any of the sort. You know, "**** happens."

I think there is a very huge chance we will see Thane sacrifice himself in Mass Effect 3. He will definetly not die off-screen.

And then Cerberus ambush you. There, you have yourself a story mission!

If they have to cure Thane then I hope they'll at least make it a flashback (One Shot, One Kill) rather than having Shepard go off looking for a cure for an assassin whilst the Reapers reap Earth.
Realistically, though, the point of a fatal illness is that it isn't curable; and whilst Shepard is awesome I doubt that he can conjure up medical breakthroughs at will. The same holds for Mordin - odds are 5:1 against a 90 year old human surviving for another year (sorry but I don't have actuarial tables for salerians)

Salarians don't usualy live past 40 but Mordin isn't actualy 50, he is around 30. The 50 on the main site is relative to human years now.social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/105/index/844703#845891
So he isn't actually that old.

I can kind of see a Renegade pro-human Shep. replacing Thane quite easily-- sort of the attitude that "One Drell is as good as another"; it doesn't really come across too much in game, but I'm sure you could play ME2 with the Cerberus-esque characterisation.

I don't think Thane is dead.
In Lotsb there is an entry in garrus' dossier saying he sent some tissue sample to some scientist that will be doing clinical trials on Thane's disease. I'm thinking that will pay off.

Most likely there will be a cure/save Thane mission or something similar, they won't let a LI die off screen.

I hope Thane goes out in a blaze of glory, or on his deathbed in a very moving scene. Curing him would sort of cheapen his character methinks, but it's possibly for Bioware to pull it off nicely and believably.

And Kolyat is a cowardly moron who barely knows how to shoot a gun. People should consider that before picking him as the obvious Thane replacement.

Was that about Thane? I thought it was about Garrus' mother.

I think he will still have life in him in ME3 but I can imagine he will get progressively worse during ME3 and probably die from it near the end of ME3 or even after the final battle he will die but I doubt he will die in between ME2 and ME3 the liar of the shadow broker reports said he has like 8 months (something like that so he has about 4 or 5 months till he his probable to die)

Pretty sure you're right.
