I've read it may be related to DirectX 11. But in every instance I read, people were running it on widescreen monitors. Mine is 1280 x 1024, which is what I have it set to.

I thought it was playing in full screen, but in fact the window is just larger than my monitor. The screen saver kicks on after awhile if I am idle.

If I start DragonAge2.exe (without using the launcher) I get an error message about a program preventing the game from running in full screen mode, and then the game launches.

I have no background applications running at all. I disabled all non-Microsoft services and all startup applications in msconfig.

If there's a solution, I haven't found it. I'm sorry; there is still no advanced search on these forums.

I still have not found a solution for this issue.

Did you go into Config from the Dragon Age launcher and check the box for fullscreen and then save settings? The reason I ask is that it defaults to Windowed mode and if you check it and don't save settings it doesn't take the change. I have gotten the message that some program was preventing it from running in fullscreen mode a couple of times, but then it goes ahead and runs it in fullscreen mode. Even if you have set this correctly, it's possible something happened to change the settings.

Yes, that's what I meant by "regardless of settings," though perhaps that was a bit vague. I even saved it with the box unchecked, exited the config, relaunched it and saved it again with the box checked. No difference.

OK, so it plays full screen fine if I use the DX9 renderer. That's not really acceptable, though. I need my shinies.

The nVidia GTS 250 is NOT a DX11-capable card.  See the nVidia spec sheet here: http://www.nvidia.co...gts_250_us.html
Win7 (and Vista, with the "Platform Upgrade") have DX11 code, and DA2 has DX11 instructions, but your card can't do the right things with it.  You need all three to make it work.

Sorry...

You can use the DX11 renderer with my setup, you just can't set graphics to "very high," because that requires DX11-capable hardware. The DX11 renderer is perfectly happy with a DX10 card for some reason.

Or at least I've gathered from the fact that it lets me select DX11 in-game, but not "Very High." And the game runs perfectly fine aside from this full screen issue.

I can select "High." If you launch with the DX9 renderer, you can only select "Medium." I notice a big difference in quality.

The card may well be the culprit of the full screen issue. I'm just saying the requirements seem a bit more muddled than one might expect.

No, my roommate has a GTS 250 and can run fullscreen just fine with DX11 and at 1920x1200. I assume you have the latest nvidia drivers?

Also You might want to make a shortcut and go to compatibility tab and check disable desktop composition. This will turn off Windows Aero when the game runs. For some reason, aero sometimes prevents the game from running fullscreen as the Aero uses DX itself

(There used to be a fairly decent search function on the forums. I have no idea why BW removed it)

That did it! :o You're a genius.

And yeah, I gave up on searching in these forums a long time ago. A lot of forums have either broken or poorly implemented search, it seems. And if you make a new topic, people tell you to search. If you post in an old topic, they accuse you of necro'ing.

The LEGACY forums did have a decent Search Function, but the Social Forums' version was created as a broken shadow of what a Search function ought to be.  However, a proper professional search engine works just fine with a site redirector criteria.

You're welcome. You still may have some FS issues now and then. If it persists, open up the windows services and disable Desktop Window Manager and stop the service before you play. This 100% shuts down Aero.

And yes, since the site lacks a proper search function, people just have to deal with people making dupe topics. Using an outside search engine, etc, etc is a cop out excuse (and doesn't always properly work). There's no reason for BW not to have a proper forum search function built into the forums.

Bah, I only thought it was fixed. It is not.

I had tested it by alt-tabbing because it alt-tabs kind of weird (minimizes, then maximizes, then minimizes) usually, but it was normal that time.

The real test is seeing if my screen saver flips on, which it still does. I set it to 1 minute to make testing easier.
