What was the scariest / creepiest / most memorable nightmare you ever had ?

I'll begin :
In my nightmare I was looking at the bottom of my left foot, and noticed a dark spot like a blood blister. I picked it off and realized that it was a worm / milliped type creature, so I crushed it. I then noticed another, larger dark spot, which was another, larger creature, picked it off and squished the creeper. I looked at the bottom of my right foot and saw, (you'll never guess), another spot that was larger than the others; I removed the creepy crawlie that was inside, and crushed it. Below the third spot, I saw a dark bulge that was larger than my thumb, and obviously one of the wormy critters, so I attempted to remove it, but as soon as I touched it, the not-so-little bugger burrowed up into my foot, into my leg and up into the rest of body. It was at that point which I woke up.

Later on that day I was reading, and I started thinking about this nightmare and ended up taking off my socks just to make sure that there wasn't anything, or anyTHINGS, burrowing in my feet.

The worst one I ever had was awhile back. I was in the house's kitchen at night eating some sushi when my friend Lucy (The funny thing is she lives in England and I live in the USA) walked in. So anyways I offered a piece to her and she politely refused. Next thing I know the lights go out and I look at Lucy and her eyes are glowing and catlike. The lights come back on and she has her mouth open with rows of sharp teeth. I screamed then ran over to the knife rack in panic. I grabbed the biggest one and turned around to see her coming at me with claws for hands.

I swung the knife and cut off one of her claws and she howled in pain. I bolted out the front door and got into my moms car. (the other funny thing is I don't know how to drive yet somehow I did in the dream) So I started it up, hastily pull out of the driveway and gun it down the street. Lucy chased after me but she stopped after a little bit. I kept driving into the night and finally after about a hour decided to stop. I sat back in the seat and let out a sigh of relief. THen BAM the windshield cracked as she landed on it, reached in and pulled me out. I screamed.

And thats basically it.

Considering it is pretty well impossible to remember dreams of any kind, I think you're all making this up.

Memories can be false, but what matters is the impressions that folks form over time and the messages they have received from those experiences. You can't deny the validity of those, even if they technically did not 'exist' in their original form.

Mine was pretty terrible (at least, the last one I remember, as a kid I had those typical ghosts nightmares which ended when I learned the ghost was my grandmother's friend. Silly, I know :P ).

Still, this nightmare involved me swimming in a lake (and just to let you know, I don't swim since... 2004 I guess). I was swimming happily, until a beast, a giant squid I think grabbed me on my leg. I don't know how, but I stopped it. I think I kicked it twice or so. But in doing so, I went down, down, down. I felt that horrible feeling of forced breath holding. I remember my lungs were about to explode, and when I couldn't take it anymore, I just woke up.

So what's wrong with this nightmare? I think I actually wasn't breathing in real life, because my lungs were hurting badly and I could hardly breath at that moment. Sometimes I think if I could have died in that night.

One that happened when I was 13, and I still remember it vividly today.

It was a night terror, you know, where you feel you're awake but you're actually in deep sleep?

I was suddenly awake looking around in my bedroom. My bed was along the wall that the door was in, so I couldn't see who was comming in till they're already inside.

I hear a thump...a dragging sound...a thump...a dragging sound. And I realize that it's my Grand dad who died 5 years before, just really really horribly decayed and zombie like. He walks inside and walks up to me, and with a really creepy rattling voice says "Your sleeve". Then he just vanished into dust and I wake up.

The next morning I put on my clothes and I just happen to look at my sleeve.

There's a hole in it.

My grand dad HATED holes in my clothes...

=S !

Nah, I remember most of my dreams.

I have had dreams I remember today which I had while taking a nap in kindergarden dude. But the majority I can indeed not remember...some dreams I'll have and the same morning I forgot it XD

But you either have no imagination to make dreams with, a really bad memory, or too scared to reflect on them, cause I'm quite sure that I remember dreams.

@Panderfringe: I'm wondering how you know, with absolute certainty, that it's impossible to remember your dreams. Are you a psychologist? A neurologist? Someone that specializes in sleep, and things sleep related? Did you read this in a book, or hear it from an expert in the field ?

I'm not trying to be an a**hole or attack you, I'm genuinely curious.

My worst nightmare ....Obama got elected President of the United States. Unfortunately, it came true. Terrifying, to say the least.

Worst nightmare...

Oh right.

I'm on my 11th day straight at work, the temperature will be around 37 celsius, I work outdoors all day. The customers are all crazy idiots and I won't be getting any overtime rates because the award rate for retail sucks.

Wait. No, thats not a nightmare, thats just every second freaking sunday in Summer!

Well last year I was really into aliens and the fact that they're among us doing stuff and I was researching it actually and saw some interesting documents which was both good and scary.

One evening as I was exhausted I fell asleep behind my desk. but it was so real and clear and vivid. in that moment I found my uploading some video footage on the internet which apparently I took myself earlier. Somehow I noticed something weird is behind the big red curtain in my room it was invisible but I felt it, I felt its gaze upon me with my flesh and bones.

I suddenly realized I can't breathe no more as if something or someone was choking the life out of me, but still I couldn't see anything. I noticed while I was being choked something slowly was coming out of the curtain in the most scariest way possible, and I heard a voice in my head as if something was whispering it inside my head "Do not get involved", in English! My mother tongue is Farsi (Persian). I think I was trying hard to scream cause next thing I remember was my dad and two brothers were in my room trying to wake me up.

It was both scary and educational for me. Scary as it felt so real and I mean real cause even after I woke up I felt a strange pressure on my throat and I was breathing very hard. Educational was the part I learned some mysteries better left alone and uncovered.

Boy I wish I never have one o'those dreams, again!

I had a nightmare today. But actually it wasn't because it's true.

I was blocked, in my room, checking every second what time is it, to go and buy DA:O... I woke up several times this night, and I had the same nightmare several times. I just hate that. The colors were so vivid, it was almost as true. I could even feel my feelings, anxiety I guess... Well, at least I can play Dragon Age Journeys. Been playing it some 10 hours now...

Are you arguing against the definition of dream or you saying it's impossible to remember anything of a dream because it fades as soon as you wake up because of the lucidity effect you are under after waking?

Some dreams I can remember even after 20 years. Tell me that isn't freaky.

The dreams that get me are those that are lonely, dark or in woods, sometimes a bear and/or falling. The feeling of falling in a dream as everything under you magically goes away, wow. I hate that.

I actually had one 'in the woods' last night, although it ended peacefully. Was not so peaceful before that, damn yeti-thing was trying to kill me. Till I gave him my soup!

And then, when I woke up, I proceeded to make myself some soup.
