WTF are you smoking OP? I'm not hating on the Mako but Mako is not what makes ME stand out. Hell its implementation made it one of its worst features. The idea behind it was great, the generic looking planets and the Mako itself? Not so much ...

One of the features that has brought me into ME was that it was an Action RPG with ability to explore galaxy with your own ship. Well and Liara...

Mako was fine. Sure it could use more tweeks but the main problem was terrain on planets.

But remeber driving Mako on Ilos? One of the best parts in the game.

Even on Ilos, Mako was annoying.

It was not.

Opinion against opinion. I didnt have any problems with Mako on main story missions.

Well, I liked the hammerhead more than the Mako, maybe it's just me but they could try another Mako, but then Hammerhead style.

Just a suggestion

I didn't mind the Mako.

EDIT: Except when out of nowhere it decided to spaz out and start flying. (On the PC.)

mako was a good concept, just not executed right.

bad handling and awkward aiming.
generic worlds to explore
recycled bases on said worlds, always like one of two or three layouts.
the generic worlds were often cluttered with frustratingly jagged and steep mountains to navigate over. coupled with the bad handling it was frustrating for sure.

though the concept of driving around, exploring planets in a big moon rover tank thing was really cool.

I loved the Mako it wasn't perfect and that made it all the more fun. It's a game. I remember playing games on the NES that couldn't really be controlled well at all, Airwolf but it was still fun.

Uh, no, I have to disagree on that one. While it made the gameplay more variable and different, it had a physics compared to a child toy car, or not so much. At least my toy cars were breakable. :P

The controls, at least in the 360 version were poor implemented. The lack of a button to accelerate made it very confusing sometimes, due to camera changes that often changed the direction, like pointing ahead and the Mako going back. It was always annoying and frustrating.

Not to mention the environments that everyone knows. Eletania ahrghhhhhhh!
I certainly didn't miss a bit of it.

Agreed OP Mako back for ME3!

Keep:

dual guns
ramming ability
fix ability though not dependant on meta gel and can defend itself while in fix mode.
thrusters they can be useful
four wheel drive capability
the radar wheel
free explore including up really high mountains and really low craters
ability to jump in and out at will no trapping us in it

Upgrade

the speed at which the cannon fires maybe 2 rounds before reload occurs
even tougher shields and mako skin they're fighting in no man's zone now
thrusters make them shoot the mako up evenly so it doesn't want to wobble in air
fix mechanics an engineer gives unlimited fixes when they're in mako if not engineer is present put a limit say 12 fixes

New things to add

ability to upgrade cannon for geth laser like we saw in OL such a big boom!
ability to paint and add camo at used ship dealers
ability to add anti rocket and anti mine armor so it'll take damage while in these scenarios but won't blow up with in say 4 rocket blast it'll take 10.
ability to upgrade to spidy tires at used dealership so mako can climb up those literal 90degree hills so people stop whining how they don't want to go up it gradually.
add varied style worlds some with populations of animals and alien people some not some barren of trees others jungles.

You know what made the Hunchback of Notre Dame unique? His enormous, tumorous hump. The point is that the things that make something unique are not always good things. Sometimes, if you get rid of the oddity, maybe you fade into the crowd a bit more, but then you get to stand out for the good things you offer, rather than the unique bits.

The Mako offered a couple sweet things. Skies were awesome. Combat could be fun. Rolling around on the Moon ruled! When it worked (when it was on rails) it worked great. But when it failed... man it killed that game. I've only played one entire play through of ME1 because of rolling around on jaggies, randomly wandering around, and tiny loot rewards for random items.

ME2 lopped that hump off. Because of that, I've played way, way, way too much ME2. And loved every minute of it. In the end, while the Mako was interesting, ME2 is a better game without it. Time will tell how they go with ME3... will it be the equivalent of starving to death after having sex with a dead gypsy, or will it sweep the wench off her feet and go on to father a thousand raven haired babies?

The Mako was great. Durable, powerful, maneuverable once you decided to stop sucking and get used to the controls. The environments you had to traverse with the Mako, however? Boring, bland, and sometimes had huge mountains that simply could not be negotiated.

Make the Hammerhead made out of armor instead of paper, and keep awesome vistas like Overlord's (also, the giant laser cannon mini-boss was fun) and we'll be golden. In fact, just repaint the Mako with Cerberus colors and upgrade its look and boosters so we can still do cool platforming stuff.

yeah, personally i found more issue with the way every planet had ridiculous jagged mountains all over them.

like im replaying ME1 currently and as i started i'd go to every thing marked on the map to grab whatevers there. the further i get the more direct route i take to my main objective there is. ive been skipping anomolies and debris like crazy simply because its not worth the hassle of driving over that mountian to get to it.

the more flat planets it works fine on, and the story specific mako sequences work fine, on noveria, feros, virmire, liara planet i forget the name of, ect. where its a more direct path and you're not navitgating ridiculous mountains, those parts are actually fun.

you ever inching your way up a mountain taking forever then your finger slips and you tap the thruster and you fall ALLL the way down? man. thats SO annoying.

The mako was okay in the story line quests, but in the side quests where the terrain was rougher it was very frustrating to drive.
Better than the hammerhead though.

On maybe Feros/Noveria it was alright, but on all the explorable worlds it was very, very boring/annoying. At least in my opinion.

Yes please. I would like a banner for this. Anyone can make?

Back to the Mako.

Mako Good Stuff:

-Open exploration.
-Beautiful enviroments.
-Big gun made things go boom.
-Armor could take a beating.
-Could climb anything.
-Thresher Maws.

Mako Bad Stuff:
-Awkward controls in combat and tight spaces.
-Slow shield recharge.
-Cookie cutter buildings/objects.
-Scale issue. Mako was huge in Normandy hanger. Shrinks once on planet. Always bothered me.
-Replaced with Hammerhead. (Vicious name for a paper-mache hovertank)
-Thresher Maws.

So there you have it. Keep the open exploration, beautiful alien environments and the big gun, adjust the controls and shield recharge rate and it should be good.

Hammerhead already has the controls and the shield recharge rate. Just swap out the prototype Hammerhead you had in ME2 for the production model with better armour and weapons and you've got the perfect vehicle. Keep in mind the Hammerhead we used was a prototype, both in universe and out. The Firewalker DLC was basically just Bioware using us as guinea pigs to see if the basic concept of the Hammerhead was viable, and it is, the only things holding it back are easily solved. And unlike the Mako, which in universe was a production model and thus already a finished product, the Hammerhead was a prototype, it's much easier to justify the Hammerhead being different from the first game to the second because a production model is bound to be different from the prototype, stronger shields and/or armour, better weapons, engines more capable of functioning in extreme cold, etc.

Yes, it made it unique in a bad way.

The good thing that it offered was that it made the game not look/be a closed quarters shooter, but it gave it a more open feeling. On the other hand, they probably came up with one of the worst ways to implement vehicular exploration.

--

Please stop saying 'Let's go back to the Mako!'. You have to agree that it at least had some flaws. Ask for an improved exploration vehicle, not Mako.

I always had a blast driving that insane weichle so I would like it back. There are however many things that could be improved as Phaedon said better than me above this post. So a new and improved Mako would be welcome.

Yep.

No matter if it's called Mako V2 or some other name. Just don't suggest something returning when there are flaws with it. Just suggest a new version that serves the same, if not more purposes without the flaws.

Driving the Mako in the main ME missions was great. The 20 or so side missions with it....not so much.

Except the Luna mission and Bring Down the Sky.

I'm not ignoring it. I don't believe it, which is a different thing entirely. The mission maps for the Mako were just long shooter corridors. They didn't suck any more than ME2 maps sucked, but I'm not really impressed by them.

The mako and the exploration with the Mako was really great, it really brought a lot of atmosphere and a land based space exploration feeling to the game. It reminded me of the Lunar rovers of the 70s when they were used to travel across the moon. I truly missed the Mako in Mass Effect 2, though I heard Overlord has similar missions, though I've yet to play them.

The only thing which annoyed me with the Mako was its oversensitivity in regards to the controls. By just landing at the wrong angle would make the Mako do a double frontflip sometimes. If the sensitivity could be lowered a bit, the Mako would be perfect. I hope the Mako or a similar vehicle returns in Mass Effect 3.
