Yeah, Halo's Warthog had better driving controls than the Mako (i.e. Up on analog stick= Always drive forward, Down= always reverse."). The fact that "any direction=forward" is as stupid as saying "It's perfectly fine for your car to randomly reverse when making U-Turns despite the fact your transmission is set on 'Drive.'"
This is (essentially) how the Mako works on the PC (but not X-Box). It is the primary reason why the PC is a better Mako experience.

Good point. I hope the Mako wasn't taken out wholesale purely because the xbox control setup was a bit off.

I loved the Mako, and I never had a problem with it. I thought it was heaps better than planet scanning, and gave the first game that vast and exploratory edge that the sequel lacked.

Agree!
Exploration in ME2 was limited to the galaxy map and scanning for weirdness on planets which allowed you to land in a tiny place. Didn't feel like "discovering" something like in ME1. Eventhough the maps were bland, and buildings the same. Didnt bother me.
The Mako as a vehicle was kinda crap, but they can improve its handling and its lack of "weight".
Still, the Mako felt more like a vehicle than the Hammerhead. I hate that machine, like flying a paper plane with a self-exthinguiser.

i always did adorable little hops with the jump jets. usually they'd shoot at me with their second shot in the air so when i land its already flying overheadWalker White wrote...
The other issue with the Mako was the massive advantage your weaponry had against other machines. Geth and turrets fired shots with very slow flight time; enough that you could side step everything. But the Mako's shots all hit instantly with no flight time. It was ridiculous.
pretty sure the only time ive actually died in the mako was when i wasnt pay attention on some random planet and a random thresher maw popped up and smashed my truck

Actually, no, the only thing that kept it a challenge was the weak armour *and* the fact that there was nothing on the battlefield that could keep up with you. If they increased the armour to plausible levels (i.e. not take one volley from a pulse rifle and then explode.... I mean, shep himself can take more damage than that) then I doubt there'd be no challenge if there were enemies on the battlefield that had something approaching the Hammerhead's manueverability or speed..... perhaps more persistent drones or seeking missiles?
Yeah, I guess you'd need to change that too. Truth is, Hammerhead missions aren't any challenge even with the weak armor, since most of the time you don't need to expose yourself to enemy fire.
Not that Mako missions are any more challenging as long as you engage at a sensible distance, and the Mako can outrun anything we've seen the geth using almost as well as the Hasmmerhead can.

I always dodged by parking crosswise and moving back and forth rather than using the jump jets. Worked fine everywhere but Feros, where I accidentally backed off the skyway. That's a long fall. That's about the only other way to die.

First, more than half of us **** about the elevators and Mako
Now, we treat them as one of the best things about first ME.

That's true, but I would prefer that they were plausible and easy rather than implausible and easy. I think I burst out laughing the first time I got blown up, as it looked ridiculous.

'Outrun' was probably the wrong term to use. What I meant to say is that Mako handles like a vehicle, so you can still take advantage of cover and fight from long range, but anything you do has to take into account your immediate surroundings.
With the Hammerhead, you ram someone on the other side of the battlefied since it takes a split second to get there, or even use an enemy itself as cover as you can circle strafe someone so quickly that they physically can't spin around fast enough to hit you.
This was partially what I liked about the Hammerhead, but I almost felt like my enemies were in slow motion by comparison. The only enemy on the battlefied that actually posed any threat at all were the primes with their magic wtfpwn rifles, which were fully auto but only needed to hit you twice to total it. I think things would be far more interesting if you could use that blistering maneuverability against an equally agile enemy.

No, the best things about ME1 was the customizable weapons and armor, relatively complex skill system, and individual cooldowns for powers.Savber100 wrote...

Maybe. I had 999 omnigel, I think I only had to use a small portion of it twice.

The ones who didn't like it would probably be in quiet contentment right now, and the opposite for the other group.

I think it was more that there were definate problems with the Mako that even people that liked it recognized. These problems could have been fixed rather than the Mako just being taken out. Even if you like the Mako it's hard to argue against people saying that it handled poorly or that climbing sheer verticle mountains gets repetitious after a while.
