Hey all.

I got ME1 on saturday, and didn't get around to installing it until Monday evening.

During the install I got the setup.exe/setup.dll error, which I've since read about seems a common error.

So, I have the PC edition of the game (DVD version), and my specs are;

Win XP Pro 5.1

DirectX 9.0c

AMD Phenom 9550 Quad Core 2.20Gz with 3.25 gig ram.

NVIDIA GeForce 6 series (6800GT) (512 meg vram)

Drivers: 6.14.0011.8250

Realtek HD Audio

Drivers: 5.10.0000.5694

As mentioned above, I can't even install the game. I insert the disc and hit install. When it gets to around the %29 mark, I get a Saferun.exe error, and the next step after that I get a Saferun.dll error. Then the install ends saying it had a Data Error.

I've tried to install to my main hdd, my slave and my small laptop external drive. I've let it go through normally, and through the 'advanced' install. No go. I've even tried to copy it to all three of my harddrives, and I get yet another different error "cannot copy data0: Data Error (cyclic redundancy check).

I'm fed up with this now. I've been trying now for 3 days and still no joy. Last time I had to go to this length to get a game to run was way back with System Shock 2.

If I can't get it fixed by the weekend it goes back to the store for a refund. I suppose I had better check that Mass Effect 2 will install, which I also bought at the same time.

Any help will be appreciated.

:)

I am having the same problems and have been scrolling through these forums for hours on end with nothing that has managed to help.

Bought a copy of mass effect and have been trying to install it but always at 25.2% of the Data002.rar file, the installation just freezes for a while, and then gives me a saferun error and tells me that the installation has to abort, or i can ignore it. If i do ignore it then at saferun.dll i get the same error again and then the installation aborts for good.

I got no clue how to fix this annoying issue, and for a multi award winning game with such a huge fan base, a game from such a massive company, this kind of a problem, with such a lousy kind of support, is absolutely below par.'

Some help would be appreciated. Cheers!

PS : ive tried the manual install method aswell, and even in that method, my extraction of data02.rar gets stuck at 22% while extracting 'BIOG_HMF_ARM_MED_R.upk'.

Hi. This is a problem with the miserable DRM in ME1. Basically it is incompatible with some CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drives. Try plugging in an external unit, or installing on another PC and copying over, or follow the advanced manual installation instructions on the following link. You will have to copy most things to your HD yourself.

Ok, So I've also spent an afternoon doing the manual install. Following the steps then I get to the bit where you run the MassEffectLauncher.exe again and and go into the Config.

It goes to set up the Config Utility and then I get another error, this time that the ME Config Utility has encountered an error and needs to close. So I don't even get the chance to run the "Repair"

I've had troubles with what seems to be mainly the Data02 archive. I've copied this and all the other archive rar-ed files to my hdd and extracted them from there, and not just ran them from the disc.

Is there anywhere I can get a copy of the Data02.rar archive that isn't corrupted? Or maybe a list of what files should be in the following folders?

Mass Effect\\Binaries
Mass Effect\\Biogame
Mass Effect\\data
Mass Effect\\docs
Mass Effect\\Engine

At wits end.

After further digging through the net and these forums, I've seen repeated recommendations for those running the same processor as I am to run the 1.02 Patch. I figure that it's rather odd that I run a patch on a game that's not even installed on my computer, but figure what the hell. And seeing as there's three patches, I download all three.

1.01
1.01a
1.02

I run them all on what I've done so far with the manual install, and got "Mass Effect Not Found. Please reinstall the game from the original source and try again" error.

So, I delete everything done so far (can't uninstall what's not installed), and then try reinstalling, getting the "setup.exe/setup.dll error" again.

So then I try running the three patches, and I still get the "ME Not Found" error. I notice the time and make a run to the store, but I've missed it and it's closed. Seeing that I'm working tomorrow and won't be able to make it to the store, and won't be able to return it before the "7 day return policy" is up, it now looks like I may just have an expensive drink coaster with it's own dvd cover.

If anyone can help out, please let me know.

Just remembered about this topic.

I returned both ME1 & ME2, and put the money on Fear3 and Dirt3 for pre-release. I'm not even going to worry about touching ME3 when it's released.
