Oh I just remeberd one more thing if BioWare did actually make a TV show I would hope it would be avliable world wide upon release. (I live in New Zealand so I always get the short end of the stick when it comes to release dates)

Hate to break it to you (and I'd love to wind up wrong, of course) but the odds of that are a bit slim. It would probably be marketed to America and thus would wind up a couple of months behind in many other territories.

Some groups are getting better about this, though.

Yeah the BBC are pretty good but most stuff gets here 6-8 months later (If were lucky!)

Man, you got lots of cool stuff that day!

The BBC is a shining example of what I meant. BBC America over here is doing a good job catching us up on things like Doctor Who. Space, a Canadian science fiction network, is also a good one.

Not a problem whatsoever when you consider the television series as a separate entity.

But hey, same thing would happen with a movie if that's the story the producers are telling.

Yeah, seriously. I'm sure she'd be up for the role in any and all levels, too. I mean... she's Tricia Helfer.

Damn... It's "Tricia", right? I always get it wrong.

So think of it like watching the writer's own playthrough.  We all know that everyone has their own Shepard, and seeing another one shouldn't bother you just because it's in the form of a TV show.

As for BBCA?  Primeval for the win, and I'm super excited that Dr.  Who was added.  I was thinking BBCA would be appropriate given the station's other shows.

I'd love to see a Mass Effect television show, but I think that adapting the story from the games is a terrible idea. There are a lot of stories to tell in the ME universe, there's no reason to retread Shepard's.

@lolwut:

Sure is. XD

@kill_switch:

Precisely. And for those who would see it as glorified fanfiction, well, maybe to a point it would be. But considering the scope of the project and the beauty of seeing it in action, I'm pretty sure it would come across as something good.

You know, if it were done right, anyway...

I respect your opinion and I think to an extent, at least, you're quite right. I'd love to see something original, too.

if there was a show First contact would be an ideal place to start  the show and seeing humanity coming in to the galactic community

Yeah I think it could work pretty well with the BBC the only problem is I doubt EA would choose them over a lot of the other more cheaper channels.

Absolutely. This was actually brought up by the fellow forumgoer I mentioned in the original post.

I don't know that much about the TV business (aside from being an extra once :P), but wouldn't 22 episodes be much too expensive for a series like this? Some expensive shows, like Rome and Spartacus: Blood and Sand, had 12 and 13 episodes respectively. Spartacus: Gods of the Arena had 6 episodes (the British format) which I preferred because there's less filler. I'd personally prefer Mass Effect to have six to eight episodes each filling a one hour slot.

I thought that was what the movie was going to be about?
So I guess it would be like Firefly/Serenity just the other way round?

I wasn't aware anything had been confirmed regarding the film's plot. Have I been missing something big for a while, here? :o

This allways turend me off House as there was just tons of episodes but the actuall plot progression could have been in just 6 episodes of course ME2 could be a bit of a problem as the majority of the story is about recruiting your squad.....

Hmm, well BSG got 20 per season and that ended rather recently. Well, except the first season which was given 13. Here in the States 22 is a current network norm, although 13 or 20 is quite likely.

I know what you mean about avoiding the filler. Thankfully, there are some pretty good 'optional' things in ME that offer the chance at a great deal of expansion.

You think ME1 could fit into six hours, though? I mean, sure, technically the cutscenes fit into that spectrum. But a show would have a lot more opportunities for characterization.

ME2 is going to be a harder season to divvy out. Especially because I think all those loyalty missions are crucial to what ME2 truly is. How do you fit all that? And at the same time on the other end of the spectrum, how do you not make the season drag? Oi.

Six could be tricky but eight should be doable. Mass Effect 2 on the other hand, would require a full 22 episode seasons.

Here is the offical discription for the film:

"Mankind discovers ancient alien technology that enables faster
than light travel. Using stored coordinates, mankind stumbles on a
hostile alien race know as the Turians."

Sound like the First Contanct War to me......
But this could be good as they could introduce charcters like Saren, Hacket Etc who could then be used in the TV show.

Maybe the missions could merge? Like the Samara and Thane recruitment missions could be one episode rather than two?

I believe that was the description on IMDB Pro but does it literally say that it was posted by Legendary Pictures or another relevant company?

@Fredvdp:

Yeah, ME2 is just very all-over-the-place (which I do like, for the record) and would need a lot more time because of it.

@Harmless Crunch:

Ooh, that's interesting. Although Fred does raise a valid question.

If it's a First Contact War movie, that probably means that Kahlee Sanders's dad will be the protagonist, I guess.

Actually it would make sense to make a Mass Effect movie unrelated to the games to see how audiences react before they spend time and money on a TV series based on the game. Let's just hope this is what happens.

Yup it says this came from the producers and neither EA/BioWare or Legendary pictures have denied it.
