I know, I used the "turn invisible and run" excuse early myself,
but playing the game I've seen Mages vanish and appear literally clear
across the other side of the battle arena in less than a second. No
pudgy Mage can run that fast. lol. Nah, it's some sort of teleportation.
Yeah, but Isabella can do that, and Rogue Hawke can do that, and Sebastian can do that, even
Varric can do that, all presumably without using magic at all, so why can't a mage, with access to a Haste type of magic, do that too? They even use the Stealth animation when they do it.
Also, in gameplay terms it kills a lot of tactical thinking. If you
have a character covering a possible line of advance (an alley) or
barricading themselves on higher ground, the "paratroopers" destoy that
in seconds.
That's just lazy thinking. Of course "paratroopers" don't "destroy tactical thining", they
enhance tactical thinking, because tactical thinking is about keeping on your toes and reacting to new information. The lack of paratrooperswould be more harmful to tactical thinking as it encourages lazy choices that allow you to easilly "tower up" into an invincible position.
This way any rogue can be a deadly assassin.. at the expense of health or stamina.
A fighter can be a tank at the expense of being focused on one thing.
A mage can be a glass cannon, a buffer, a disabler, a damager... etc.
Or any other number of the many variations to party and class.
It'd be nearly impossible to balance properly, they'd either get picked apart by a clever player, or crush even the best players. There's no way they could manage all the options available "just right".
What I find scary is that some people are willing to pay for mediocracy.
If thats the new trend, then I need to get out of my current business
and sell crap for fast cash.
Please, for all it's flaws, it's still a great game. I've been buying
far worse games for decades now. I mean, Fable III kept me trapped in the start menu for nearly a month!
