Would people want the option to propose marriage to your LI from ME1/ME2 in ME3?

Yes. I have wanted the option to do so ever since I heard this line. "I don't know, Marriage, old age and a lot of little blue children."

Would be nice incentive to wipe the reapers out fast. :D

Not really, it would be kind of silly and out of place in the story. Plus maybe a little creepy to imagine proposing marriage to a fictional character.
But as it stands yes, I want to see a happy resolution to the fractured relationship between Commander James Shepard and Ashley Williams.

Oh Maker, please, yes!!

Make Shepard the one who can pop the question and don't punish the players who don't pick that particular line, imho. Then add a scene to the ending that's specific to our romance. It doesn't even have to use up too many resources, since a lot of the scene's assets can be reused depending on which romance you're doing, similarly to the sex scene in ME1.

- One ending which shows the possibility of kids (kids themselves may or may not be shown)
- One ending which shows a happy relationship where they focus only on each other (for all those non-Liara alien romances + any infertile human LIs)
- One ending which shows Shepard victorious yet lonely (in case your LI didn't make it)

Those three scenes could have minor variances and pretty much just different spoken lines for the characters and it'd be great. This way we can get a nice final scene with our LI without BioWare feeling it's absolutely not worth the development cost.

I'm a huge fan, probably worthy of being called a BioDrone, but I must admit I've never been blown away by the ending of a BW game, save perhaps certain endings in DAO. ME3, the finale of the three epic games saga, would be the one game to really go all out with. And I believe a scene in the ending with our LIs would be most appreciated by most.

I'm suddenly reminded of one of my favourite endings to a video game ever, the added cutscene in the PSX/DS versions of Chrono Trigger. Link here; (obviously don't watch it if you haven't played the game and think you'll want to play it later!)

I feel like I'm talking about multiple topics at once.... should stop talking. But I'm feeling so emotionally active atm ^^;

... I'm very torn by the question posed by this forum ...

My answer is "yes" and "no."  The teenage girl I used to be would jump up and down, squeal, and clap her hands, YES!  But as an adult, it feels like a cheap way out.  An easy happy ending, like a bad Harlequin novel from the 1970s.

On a sidenote

Honestly, with the exception of Thane (widower) in ME2, the player doesn't know the marital status of any of the LIs.

Based on the surprise I got in the Shadowbroker DLC (Garrus has a sister? and a sick mom? and he didn't tell me?  I would have helped somehow!), I suspect there is a lot more going on in the LIs backgrounds of which the player is unaware.  Maybe even an arranged marriage or two.

Though it would be fun to confront a psycho ex-girlfriend or two! Hmmm... that's a thought.  How do you get into a hair-pulling fight with a girl who has fringe, anyway?  Does the fringe fall out when tugged?  Just saying...Image IPB

Well with any luck, we'll get Kaidan and Ashley playing the role of 'Psycho Ex' in ME3. Clearly Jack is growing her hair out just for that fight.

And I'd love to see the proposal idea. As an option and only before the endgame. I wouldn't put the actual wedding in, of course. Shepard might not even survive past the propsal.

  • *Reaper lands on Shepard, squishing him flatter than a pancake.*
  • *Player hears devs quietly sniggering while game over screen appears.*

It's still an RPG. You role-play your role as Commander Shepard. I agree the Reapers are first priority, but adding this feature if it's optional, would be nice. Mass Effect isn't Gears of Shepard. I would to see it all end it somehow by our LI's side. I wouldn't go as far as kids though, perhaps in an epilogue.

I don't really think it fits the narrative laid out in the two previous games. There is a good chance that all life in the galaxy is going to be exterminated if you don't focus on stopping the reapers. By all means, expand the relationships with all the LI possibilities but lets keep Shepard's focus on the task at hand, not marriage...

We probably won't see a marriage option. More likely we'll see what happens years down the road in the epilogue.

I certainly wouldn't. But if there is the option, it would be interesting if certain LI's turned Shepard down, if it fit in with their character. Similar to how Anders/Merrill move in with Hawke in DA2, and Fenris/Isabela don't.

I guess, but, in my world, it's more or less implied that the one I love, I would propose to.

Not necessary, but it would be a nice little add-on.

That would be hilarious
At least after the initial shock and rage.

If Garrus gets down on one knee and whips out a ring before the final fight at any point in the game, I'm snapping the game discs in half.

Why do you want to get married? You could have kids without all the fuss, and it'd be less cheesy to say the least.
I'm all for the romances evolving (especially if you kept faithful through ME1 to ME3) but there are more levels between a kiss/boning a couple of times to marriage and kids. I don't think there is enough time in the game to flesh out a romance that far without it feeling forced.
