Would people want the option to propose marriage to your LI from ME1/ME2 in ME3?

I honestly don't get all the hate for marriage in here. And I don't think the OP was talking about actually having a wedding during ME3 anyway. That *would* be rather out of place, I think. But assuming you and your LI are both alive at the end of ME3, I don't see why people would object to a conversation after the Reapers are defeated (I repeat, AFTER the Reapers are defeated) about what the future holds. I could envision 3 main options: one that points toward an eventual marriage, one where you and your LI stay together but don't get married, and one where you and your LI don't stay together. Everybody's Shepard is different; some, like mine, are the marrying type, some aren't. I think it would be far better to let people choose than to have one of those options forced on everybody, and I don't think it would be cheesy at all.

100% right, but also every LI is different. My MShep would never ask Ash, but he would marry her if she ask to (religious, could be important to her). So there would have been a lot of options to be considered if BW want to do this.

Can a Captain of a ship marry himself with someone?

But, I guess it would make sense before a battle with heavy risk, like the end of both ME1 and ME2. Marriage would be cheesy, but appropriate, as long as it isn't forced or required to advance the romance.

You could have somebody else perform the rites I guess. For example, your XO (unless you're marrying your XO, in which case maybe Joker or EDI could do it).

I also wouldn't mind it being an optional DLC, but if it's going to be in the game (which I would like, DLC or otherwise), it has to be OPTIONAL.

Yeah, sure. As long as the after party involves cruising the universe punching douche bags like al jilani, the turian councilor and udina.

Maybe for my Shep who stayed faithful to Ashley through two games. However, I have the suspicion that staying faithful will mostly be rewardless and part of ME3 will be rebuilding that relationship.

Yeah, they've already said there will be consequences  ME3 if you cheated on your ME1 romance in ME2.  Just like real life!

Well, it probably would... wth the Paragon choice being marriage and the renegade choice being "Lets have a foursome!"

I have no interest in this.

If it was done right, I might consider it with one of my Shepards, but really no. Besides, it would hardly be very convincing depending on the LI you want to marry. Personally, I can't see Jack wanting to tie the knot, and half of your LIs are aliens - and surely they don't all have marriage in their cultures?

this it would be a waste of time and more than likely silly. Just make a little epilogue that makes you assume it happened and everyone lived happily ever after (equally silly but ooh well).

Just been reading through all of this thread as I'm very bored in work. I have a suggestion that could be implemented as post ME3 DLC.

Have a wedding/mission as DLC. I've read that people have wondered what Bioware could possibly do with ME3 DLC as the conclusion of ME3 will wrap up the Reaper storyline. Well this could fit in quite well as a small story progression with your LI and it would be entirely OPTIONAL to play obvioulsy. I've read that a lot of people would like the option to propose during ME3. Well if you did this, then this decision would carry over to this DLC.

The way I possibly see this DLC playing out would be the set up of a marriage, whether on Earth (depending on the state of it after ME3), another planet or home planet of your LI, or on the Normandy (which has maybe landed on a planet (not sure if the SR2 can do this but we know the SR1 certainly could). It's maybe a couple of hours before the ceremony and maybe the wedding itself comes under threat from Cerberus, depending how that all plays out by the end of ME3. Maybe even Batarian terrorists again. Just something that means the wedding comes under threat and Shepard's life is in danger, or maybe the LI bride-to-be's life because they want to hit Shepard where it hurts. I can picture Shepard having to deal with this threat in a tux whilst the wedding party is none the wiser. It's an idea that can be expanded on anyway. This could also have a time limit on it in which it needs to be completed before the LI gets suspicious. Once the threat is over, you get back to the wedding and then maybe some cutscene wedding montages and conclusion (because surely no one wants to sit through a whole cutscene of a wedding) and that wraps up the DLC.

It's just  a basic idea that can be easliy expanded on and one i'm sure satisifes both sides to this argument. Image IPB

Actually, this idea makes perfect sense. If we can't have the option in-game, we could at least have it for DLC.

Make it happen, BioWare! :D

I would have Tali as my life mate in a heartbeat :).

I am not sure if they will do a marriage of each LI, that would require a lot of work - however, if the option to propose was made. It wouldn't feel right if the game didn't have a marriage scene too.

At the moment making eight, or close to that number, different types of bonding ceremonies is extremely taxing in terms of scripting and everything else. Especially when we have to invent four different races marriage ceremonies and that's not including how to set up the scene for proposals.

Also, how would you do the ceremony? Do it in the alien way or the human way or do both and marry twice?

I doubt that the developers will ever do this for the game, even as a DLC, as the time required to do so is extremely taxing. No doubt that the team will have to make it so good that you will turn into an emotional wreck by the end of it :).

But i would be happy even with the option to propose, if not a bonding ceremony.

A montage would not do justice. Atleast have the scene in full for receiting the bonding rites at the very least.

pre-wedding mission where garrus takes you to an asari strip club for your bachelor party, you take a dancer in the back and she ends up dead somehow but you blacked out then you and garrus have a wacky adventure on how to hide the body without anyone finding out

I want an Asari wedding, which I assume allows for polygamy so I can marry Liara, Tali and the female LI I boink in ME3.

Thanks!

Yes i would love the chance of Marriage its the olny real payoff for the people who have put in the time to develope the Love Interest (even more so for VS). But I would like to put in a plea for James Sanders to have an optional bi/gay option (as I killed ashley there is no conflict wih that Shadow Broker letter) as it would kill off the complaints, it one last chance to fix the whole LI debate to rest. I for one would reply the 1st to and not romce anyone, I don't even care what he's like lol.

Ok I know this is probably going to be one of those things people will be spilt on opinion because shepherd is meant to be saving the galaxy but I feel that shepherd (at least in paragon form) would want to settle down after everything has happened in ME3 and surely he/she will be wanting to express how much they love their LI and ask them for their hand in marriage (I am not saying they get married during the ME3 but afterwards if shepherd is successful in the ME3 story)

i am not saying that you have to but would you like the option available to you during ME3
 to get engaged?

and before anyone says I do not know anything about if its in ME3 or not its just an idea i have

Yes, I would like to be given the option too! :wizard:

I would of course like to have the oportunity to marry Liara in ME3 however I would like to see a different "ceremony" to each LI one that match the LI personality, for example in Liara case an asari bounding cerimony, for Ash a religious cerimony, etc. Something that fit in the LI story not just the same for everyone.

The problem is that some people may want a human wedding with their non human LIs. - they will probably be a small minority, but it's something to consider as well.

They could use the normal human weddings that Kaiden would have, but just replace the bride and groom and a few of the squaddies if of them are dead or are the LI like they did for conversing with differnet LIs for different Shepards in Normandy's captain deck in ME2.

However, some may want two weddings, one with their alien LI in the non humans version and one wedding in a human version.

Not sure if i am saying everything coherently, but i'm tongue finger tied at the moment. ^_^

Well I have nothing against " marriage idea" in game, but only if it's  full optional, and  my Shep " refusal" will not mean that her relationship with any LI is over, becouse she said " No". While I understand ppl who want this in game, I can't imagine any of my Sheps as a wife, mother and housewife..just can't

Most species don't even have an institution that resembles marriage, ok.
