I really enjoy those tutorial videos brazen.  For those kinds of videos, pausing is a necessity.  You can look around and show people what your strategy is, then execute that strategy.  My only suggestion would to not speak while the action is unfolding (only talk while paused) Mostly because it is hard to hear you.  There were only a couple instances where that happened anyway.  Very well done.  I'd like to see how you handle some of the longer battles if you're still doing these.  Again, great job!

Even more pausing? :o

I tried bringing the game volume down, but I see your point.

The only reason I'm recording these fights, is because Arrogant AreleX doesn't find the basic stuff sexy enough. So, I try to do less awesome sauce and more meat, so to speak. Get the basics down before getting into the harder fights. I still love her, though, don't get me wrong. I'm not trying to secure a place on the couch for tonight ...

If you have specific requests, by all means, drop 'm right here.

What did I learn from all this?  Ask and you shall receive. Image IPB  More please.

That's usually the way it works. The problem is that I have no idea which fights other people find challenging, or, maybe just want to see another way of doing things. I've asked God for another way to do the second part of the Evelina mission. I can do it just fine, but I sense a lack of educational value in the video. It was also a covert way to post something where I consider I fail and ask for input from the community. Sadly, it hasn't worked out the way I wanted it to. :(

So, the absolute best way would be to upload a video of a fight where you feel you fail (like I did!), and I assure you, someone will pick up the gauntlet! AreleX has already PMed me tp ask if I wanted him to do a video of the Evelina fight. Case in point!

I think I may have one of my 'fenris is angry' fail attempts at xebenkeck I you want me to upload it - though I'm not sure if that is the sort of thing you're looking for. There are quite a few walkthrough/speedruns of it out there already anyway. It's just a lot harder when you do it at too early a level and limit yourself to no cold spells.

Though it'll probably solidfy the opinions of all those people who think i'm terrible at the game :P

Edit: Decided to upload it.

Any comments/advice/etc would be welcome even though I'm definately not using that same setup next time haha

You posted all there is to say about that in the comments already. ^_^

One thing, though, last scene shows Fenris alone. Should I die, I immediately reload, unless it's really close to the end of the fight. I figure, if I die, I must've done something very wrong. Either approach, setup, gear, lack of situational awareness, whatever. No style points for me, so I need to think different.

Haha I used to be like that too! The second anyone died I'd have the load screen up and be reloading the most recent save. (I tend to save quite a lot, a habit I picked up from playing games on my old crappy computer as they tended to crash randomly).

But there can actually be rather amusing video material (if slightly macabre) if you play on, as watching annoying characters die (such as Anders and Fenris) can be a surprisingly useful method for venting - especially if you're the one 'accidentally' causing their deaths...
I may or may not have pull of the abyss'd fenris away from me then maker's fisted him after he got a little too fervent in his attempts to attack the enemies next to me.

But yeah, i'm not sure what sort of 'fail videos' would be useful for this thread. I think that demonstrating and explaining certain party tactics may be useful though. I've updated my guide with most of that information so hopefully it helps someone. :/

I'm still trying to figure out a possible method to complete Xebenkeck without using cold spells...
If IN1 can solo it with a warrior perhaps aveline might be able to do similar with some help. But that requires hiding around doorways and probably won't be able to beat 34 seconds..
Once I level up and get my archers lance working i'll have another shot at it. If all goes well I'll have a speed run rivaling Jack-Nader's. If it fails....well, I guess that video I posted can have a friend :)

Oh well, I'm not fussed. You're the one missing out on all that really fuzzy awesomeness ;)

@Jack-Nader: Yeah sure; I think that setup was pretty stupid myself. Be nice to see what other things are wrong with it that I didn't notice

Is it possible to get better resolution that that? I can't make out your queue orders. I really need to see what your other party members are casting. I capture at 960/ 600 resolution and then resize to 1200 by 720 so that youtube does not butcher the video.

What is your build?

Watch my newest video, a lot of the concepts apply to the Xebenkeck fight, as well. Can't really tell you more without knowing what you're working with.

Ummm.. my videos are pretty 'butchered' to start with. It doesn't help that the exposure isn't fixed/fenris glows so much. Hmm I'm shooting at 1280x720 yet it still looks like crap. Videoing a screen really does destroy the quality.

I just watched it again though and they're not casting a great variety.
Basically all three are casting chain lightnings every time there is a stagger.
Hawke and Merrill are casting crushing prisons every time an elite gets staggered.
(I would have thought Hawke would have cast a haemorrhage but didn't see it)
Anders is also spamming martyr and haste and Merrill casts the odd Wounds of the Past.
I think they were meant to spam tempest as well but my tactics must have been dodgy.
Was too lazy to spend much time fixing up their tactics...was more of a just pull off CCCs fullstop.
Probably part of the reason why I got destroyed..

When all the enemies got in amongst them Merrill casted ensnare and Hawke used One Foot In but yeah, that didn't really do much.

@Arelex: Don't worry, I don't actually really need help with this fight. Was more posting it for brazen's benefit, so people can point out things to improve on and somehow learn from it?
My current build/party setup is listed in my sig, but i'll probably alter it slightly for this fight. THe main problem is mainly the way I didn't spec any cold spells or have any cold staves. Electricity only goes so far against rage demons..

And your latest video is pretty interesting as usual. Nice job with the voice-over :)

Youtube is showing it at only 480p. Youtube is butchering it because it is a non standard resolution. 1200 by 720 = 720p. You'll have to resize it. Atleast if you do that it will look somewhat like the resolution you recorded it at afterits uploaded.

I'll do that for my future videos. Do I really have to re-process and re-upload that movie out of all of them??
I'm pretty sure you can see enough pain and destruction without needing it in higher resolution...
I can read most of the abilities off the youtube video anyway (unless it's during those periods with heaps of over-exposure in which case you won't be able to see it at higher res anyway).

btw, fun new thing I'm considering for my build: puzzle ring of the black fox (2 dex, 2 cun, 9% crit chance)
That's the pretty much the same stats as four fingered eddie's lucky talisman (2 dex, 2 cun, 8% crit chance) besides the 4% attack speed. It also costs ~20g less.
I'm considering skipping the robe of unblemished cleanliness and seeing if I can afford both of them (140g compared to 196g). I just need to get ~46g extra....extreme stingyness is called for haha

Heh, still into your crit mage builds I see :)
That was one of two reasons I decided to play through as a rogue so I could better understand the mechanics and how much crit gear is in the game.

Rogues have so much crit-gear available....so unfair.

But yeah, i've got my eye on four items atm (Seven Deadly Cinch, Etched Ring of the Twins, Eddies, and the puzzle ring) = ~304g. Should be doable.
Then I'll probably get some generic +%spirit bloodmage robes (don't think that reloading trick will work with generic rogue armour), boots of the void, maybe gloves of the void and that new dlc mask thing.

With spirit mastery (+25% spirit damage) and all that crit chance and damage I think I should have a pretty solid basic staff attack and my spells should crit a lot more often and harder. :)

How exciting, might just give up on recording things (besides a re-run of the gauntlet and xeb) and just rush through the rest of the act and get to act 3.

Well I don't have capture hardware or software to record my own failures so I'll just submit some requests for battles I'd like to see demonstrated, with VO commentary. An Act 3 fight I find challenging comes at the beginning of the end of Act 3. After Anders does his little magic trick, you head down to the docks and encounter a blood mage, a pride demon, and a shade swarm. I'd liketo see that one. It usually starts out pretty well for me but it quickly gets out of control because of the sheer number of shades.

Also, if you do the Fool's Gold quest (Act 2 I think) there is an encounter with a bunch of golems in the deep roads. I recall that being troublesome. I only played it once, and it was my first time through. So it may not actually be bad, but at the time it was.

So there you go. Thanks in advance.

Ahhh that shades fight.. yeh if you don't have certain spells it can be a bastard. There is one spell tho that makes it considerablly easier. "glyph of paralysis." I ended up throwing it on my mages, entirely for their sake, simply because they were constantly being knock locked and I couldn't be everywhere at once to save them.

I don't suppose anyone wants a brekker?
Just did it with my new party setup - found a really consistent and easy way to finish it really fast.
Am trying to upload it as close to HD as I can get which means that it's taking a while....
But yeah, I'll have it up and add some commentary down the bottom in ~15mins :)

and no Jack-Nader, this is not a competition to see if you got less than 50secs for it :P

Ahahahahaha I just edited my post to say that this wasn't meant to be a competition then I saw your post..

Anyhow I got ~50s. But I had quite a bit of messy micro-ing and was more intending to show it as a good strategy to use as oppose to a good way to speed run it. I hardly lost any health. :)

p.s. What time did you get?
