It also helps to take advantage of spawns. ie. Pick up merrill and Sebastions quest then head to the wounded coast. There is an absolute tonne of spiders and raiders that I have never seen before. The spawns refresh if you pick the main quests up and complete them in seperate visits to the wounded coast.

I AM ALL THAT IS MAN
(with pink font)
Note, so I don't get called a cheater for the five millionth time: I think the DLC daggers are ugly as sin, so I swapped the model for Finesse. It's still the SAME dagger, stat-wise, it just doesn't look like a dirty butcher's knife now.
P.S - ScroguBlitzen said his music couldn't be topped. Daniel-san BEGS TO DIFFER.

Looks like there's some new incentive for me to redo that speed run.
I can just imagine all the anguish it would cause if I beat 28 secs hahaha

I wouldn't do it on the merit of it just not being possible, but will also add that if mr afk every comes halfway close to touching anything I do, you'd better put me on 24-hour suicide watch, because I'll lose what's left of my fragile little mind and yell at him constantly. Which is pretty much how things go now, I guess...so, on second thought, carry on as you will.
A Jack Nader hug would probably partially fix it, but then I'd likely beat him senseless for doing a faster Brekker clear.
Moral of this story? NO ONE IS SAFE

the reason i chose mage was because of
the cover art and the destiny trailer, whilst the trailer wasnt
terribly accurate the mage was by far the best class imo because it
really makes you think about the battle and not just mash the attack
button untill something dies. my only dissapointment is that i felt the
staff of parthalan, considering its back story should have improved with
level up because it looked so badass. im very glad i didnt play as the
warrior because that really does give the wrong impression for new
comers who would think its just a hack and slash.
Wrong impression or no, mashing the attack button in semi-controlled bursts while manuvering around Anders' crippling martyrdom and stupid coat can be a hell of a lot of fun. Give it a shot sometime, I think you'll have to actively try to not like it

You mean the fight at the Wounded Coast early where there's 9000000 Raiders, 1000000 Bandits, 50000 Mabari, and 60000 Spiders? Yeah, that battle's a pain. There's at least 6 different battles there in 2 square meters of area, and so it's impossible to not trigger them all at once.

AROUND!
The biggest issue is tactics not firing properly/on time (even though I only have 3-4 per char). Plus, I'm not going to control Anders/use a bow (personal complex). I'll smack your s**t around with DW Hawke if you beat my time.
LET'S DO IT, RUMINATION! ALL ITEMS ALLOWED, ANY CHAR. HAVE AT YOU!

Right now, I am stuck at the gauntlet = lost thaig = recently opened passage, as well as on the top of sundermount at the elven graves. I cannot seem to do enough damage and I am crushed be the sheer number of spawns.
My party is level 16, all quests done before going with Isabela for the qunari relict. I have about 70 gold and thus cannot afford nifty items like the staff "cold blooded". Also, it seems that my party members never get away so easily from the shades; very often the let themselves surround or stunlocked. One abomination is arealdy enough to lock down any party member but the fighter.
I tried Fenris/Merril/Varric and Aveline/Isabela/Anders, both setups cannot do enough damge to kill the first rage demon between one or two undergrounds. After that, there are simply too many spawns for maintaining coherent and focused damage. i.e. my ranged people spend 80% of their time running away.
Most stagger/Brittle combos don´t fire of in time unless micro-managed, and after the first underground of the first rage demon, there come already too many shades which interrupt coherent damage. My damage numbers are about half of what I see in the videos.
So:
- which level are you ?
- do you use overpowered DLC items or did you boost your item-loadout by adding gold?
- does PS3 maybe have a more easy-going NPC/enemy AI?
- am I noob and what can I do to become a god?

Did you miss lots of act 1 quests? because after I was at that stage I was ~level19.
But your level shouldn't make that much difference as the enemies usually scale up with you.
Anyway, what class is your Hawke?
Because your setup/what you do will somewhat depend on your class. I'm assuming you're a mage given the posting in the mage tutorial?
Umm.. I'll leave Arelex or someone to help you.
I usually opt for the easy route and just micro a melee companion because the area seems to be too large/enemies too spread out for a melee companion to be effective otherwise.
I could tell you how to do it microing isabela/fenris, but if you're controlling hawke I won't be much help. I've tried it before and for me it simply involved lots of microing/regrouping the party, which isn't very fun when the controls for doing so are so clunky.

a. I'm cheating
b. Console difficulty is apparently gimped enough that you fail hard, and I succeed easily
It was old the first week I started making videos, it's gotten even older now. I was level 14 when I made the video, right out of the Deep Roads, more or less. If you're following my guides and having serious issues, then we have something to discuss. If you're questioning me because you built yourself or your team badly, that has nothing to do with me, and I shouldn't be held under suspicion for your failures,

Whoa, AreleX, relax!
I am really at a loss and I cannot point where I am going wrong. I figure it is lacking damage, because I really try to get the most out of brittle/stagger, but the damage in your videos spikes out everything I have seen on my screen so far. The other factor being that my NPC spend much more time running away or being stunlocked.
I am just asking because maybe I am overlooking something very obvious. You are PS3 player, and maybe there really is a difference. I know it from ME2, they made PC more difficult because of the better control with mouse. Maybe it is the same here. Of course, the other option being I am still too nooby and I really missed all the nifty level-up and overlooked good items.
Level 14? Jeez, that is crazy. My buildup must be totally warped somehow. Maybe you can tell me some corner-values which my party should have for the gauntlet. Level, gold, notable items. Hints on how to maintain coherent focus fire on the rage demons, etcetc.
Exkurs: I followed your instruvctions on how to hit assassins/ragedemons out of stealth, and while it did not work in Act I (I did not have the staff of parlathan, then), my damage seems to have improved, because now in Act II it works on a regular basis as you described.

Also, I'm pretty sure Arelex is on xbox (as everybody knows xbox has it the easiest
Here's the video list of mage hawkes doing the gauntlet that I compiled once before (so am just ganking from another thread):
Jack-Nader (PC) All-ranged run:
Arelex (xbox) non-controlled Fenris run(non-tutorial):
Me (xbox) Using Isabela: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aagMx-Kl4Vc
Me (xbox) Using Fenris: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EbMxQCTeqjI
There's a couple other videos out there, but these demonstrate the ways you should be able to do the gauntlet with a mage hawke (though the tutorial vid goes through it in greater depth). So what you should see is the idea of keeping your party together (for a ranged party) such that you can exploit statuses via CCCs (if enemies are out of range it won't trigger), or if you control a party member you have to keep an eye out to protect your companions/draw threat to draw enemies away.
