P.S - I'm a guy. I'm not entirely sure where the idea that I was a girl started, or with who, but I found it incredibly amusing (and telling, since I never said anything about it), so I never stopped to correct anyone.

Hear that? It's the sound of millions of hearts across the globe shattering into teeny little pieces.

And the font? Are you kidding me? Have you never walked by a trashy romance novel in the library or grocery store? Palace Script MS is the manliest font in the world, even manlier when you make it purple.

A pity. Most gaming communities are dominated by, ahem, alpha males. RPG genre is less gender-restricted in this respect than, for example, fighting games or DotA-likes are (though there are prominent exceptions to the rule: Asian girls do not find competitive gaming repulsive), but the main focus of feminine interest is usually dressing their Hawke in pretty outfits pure role-playing/plot/companion interaction, not beating the crap out of dragons in the most efficient way imaginable.

LOL IN1 did you just say you wished Arelex was a woman, albeit in a very tactful way? Image IPB

Assassins - I wouldn't put the cooldown on their stealth abilites over 5 seconds.  I've also had them in front of me.. and immediately teleport behind me for a backstab without doing stealth.  I suppose they have some form of the vendetta talent.

In a way, yes. It could have been very unusual (therefore, interesting) for a gaming community to have such a prominent female member (of a dragon-slaying, not a Hawke-dressing variety). I did not imply Arelex should consider some sex reassignment surgery :)

Why not?
While they are visible, you could use horror and petrify to prevent their backstabs.
The cooldown(if they had anyone) has to be increased to the same amount as abilities as mindblast,so its possible to counter their stealth.

ehem...if i may... what?
i mean..
WHAT?
IN1 you want more cross-dressers, females or hardcore (Dragon-slaying) females in games?
There are alot of x, i do play as female for the shiny pixels here and there but thats it , i wont initiate romance on such plays.
As for females - its nature man nature! the groups have different points of interest ....

Hmm... I don't want any of those, to be honest :D The gaming communities are what they are, and that's only natural boys love to slay dragons and boast about that more than girls do.

It's just I've always thought highly of female competitive players. Not only because it's an unusual gender role (at least, for us the Westerners), but also because they tend to be really good (probably since they feel they have to prove themselves much more than male players do). DA2 is not competitive, of course, but badass dragon-slaying is as close to competitive as you can get here, I guess.

haha I've wondered about the demographics of these forums as well. You see plenty of female dps and as I usually connect that dp gender to some mental picture of who they are (until I actually determine their gender much later) this makes things somewhat confusing sometimes. :/

uhm ...my experience is decent in this aspect  (mmo) and i can say genre doesnt change much ... it might be idd true that percent of good female players is higher then male as its not their "natural" interest so they must have a certain level of success to keep them interested. But assuming things is wrong.

LOl just messin with ya man, you posted that response so eleoquently I wanted to make sure everyone else could read between those fine lines of yours!

I actually agree with you.  If arelex had turned out to be female it would have been cool, but gaming is one of the few things in life in which it's, for the most part, safe to assume everyone behind the avatar is a male.  Granted as the years go by and gaming becomes less of a stigma that "only nerds do it" there will be more and more ladies who freely admit to playing.

Watching CGS before it was cancelled or whatever happened to it, I was amazed by several of the women who were on that show.. who speciliazed in fighters or fps games.  There's something sexy about a woman who can beat my ass at a game.. and when I say beat my ass ... I mean uttery annihilate me(not that it's hard).  I ran into a girl like this on WoW and I think for several minutes I fell in love with her!

One of the best Soul Calibur III/IV players in the world, Kayane, is actually a cute girl of Korean descent. I'm also acquainted with some very strong DotA/Demigod/LoL female players. In MMORPG, where girls are relatively common, they typically prefer to play buffer/healer-type characters (because they can chat more that way, sometimes even during PvP, which is infuriating :)).

I admit, I thought you were female and that you looked exactly like your avatar.

-looks at AreleX's avatar-

Ok, now I'm confused.

I feel like I don't even know you anymore...

What do you guys suggest I do next for these tutorial videos, if anything? I feel like the two videos I've made have covered the basics pretty well, and I'm not sure what else people would find helpful. Ideas?

I might change it back. It does (the old one), actually, pretty closely resemble me (though I am not a female), and I already miss virtually staring at my own face in all of my posts as a way to feed my rampant narcissism. I saw that my player profile finally updated, and decided to give this one a test run.

You've covered the basics pretty well so far.  You've shown how you deal with assassins, how about other enemy types that might give people trouble with this build?  what about creatures who aren't affective by Fist, or pull, like shades & spiders.  Some creatures are immune to Hemmorage too right?

By the way, one battle that I'm not sure I've seen from you is at the end of Act 3, when you enter the docks.  There is a blood mage, a pride demon, and about 534 shades.  I'd personally like to see that.

How is this wrong? Any battle where Anders gets assassinated is a success

I actually did record this fight, but never posted it, along with most of the end-game. I'll see if I still have it. P.S - you're never going to see a spider fight from me. EVER. In your LIFE. I know I also said no mage guide, but this is different!

I don't think I've ever used heal, in my 3 mage playthroughs. Things rarely end up going wrong like that, so I don't have a lot of mistakes to record. Stop looking at me like that, I'm serious! If I do make a mistake while I'm recording, I usually include it at the end of the video.

Silly arachniphobes!  Spiders are cute- in a scittery, itchy, dead black eyes, kind of way.  Image IPB I just gave myself the heebie jeebies...

While you're recording is the key phrase.  People want candid - it's the wave of the future.

Another suggestion - Audio commentary.  Nothing says Video Game Tutorial like audio commentary.  Unless you have a Rosanne Barr voice-then stick to text.

I've heard 'male Jessica Rabbit' and 'Phone sex operator' (not sure if compliment or insult), but never Roseanne Barr. Should I make another tutorial video, I'll keep it in mind.

Or! I could just get the guy who plagiarized my guides to narrate for me!
