Ok I am doing another play through but no matter what I always play as a paragon because I dislike being the renegade but I have a big question mark over should I kill them or free them and the more and more I hear about ME3 the bigger my question mark is on will saving or killing the rachni be a good idea or bad idea.
So I am curious which do you think is best currently from what we know from ME1
Should I kill The Rachni Or Not?

Rachni are a formidable race. It goes one of two ways: kill her and eradicate a potential enemy, or set her free gain a potential ally.
Personally I go for the latter. The Rachni queen goes out of her way to talk to you and it seems like she just genuinely wants to restore her people well away from the other species. She even encourages you to kill her children who are beyond saving, and makes some very valid points as to why the lab-grown rachni become hostile.

I've only killed her in a few of my playthroughs. I'm more of a catch and release kinda guy.

I think you have trouble understanding the whole RPG concept. YOU decide whether or not the kill the Rachni queen based on how YOU feel about the choice.
If you let her live, I'm pretty sure you're going to wind up doing a mission to help your "friend" out with a problem she's having in order to have the Rachni help you. If you killed her, you'll probably have a conquer or win over the Rachni mission (even if you do kill her, news reports still play in the ME2 background of mysterious ships that look like Rachni scouts).
Either way, I'm sure there will be a way to beat the Reapers with or without her help.

@ TomY90. What's your Shep's Pre-Service History/Pysch Profile? Instead of telling me, role play from that perspective and you've got your answer. I hate meta-gaming big decisions like the Rachni Queen.

If you want to do your job: kill the queen.

for me my character is a colonist and a war hero which usually I do save them for the paragon route but I feel compromise is in order in a way by killing them and in others ways keep saving them

I'll give you 2 examples. In the game where I saved the Rachni, I was going to kill the queen and Liara asked me not to. In the game where I killed the queen, I was going to let her go and Wrex told me to kill her to be safe.

Even from a meta gaming perspective, none of us know what is really the best decision, as none of us will know the final result until ME3 comes out.
I also always play a paragon, for the same reason as yourself....I chose to save the Queen and have read since in a Gamer magazine that, that decision may bite me in the a** in ME3...but regardless of what happens in ME3 I won't be going back and changing my choice...all a part of the role playing to me, my Shep would save the Rachni Queen, thats just his way, I'm not going to do an about face with him just to get the best results.
Why don't you try both? Transfer both games to ME2, then to ME3...no harm in having 2 Sheps.

This is a RPG, so play as you like, and play different playthroughs with different choices.

It is your decision if you save her or kill. No one knows what consequences this decision will carry. One of them will bite you in the ass, another will help a lot.

I heard a rumor they will most likely help you in ME3 to fight the incoming invasion if you saved them; though I may be mistaken. (Hence a rumor).

Any choice is fine, just try not to meta game until you complete one *playthrough* of the ME trilogy. I'm doing my hardest not to metagame as it is.

I have heard today one thing involving the rachni so far from ME3 so i will say now DO NOT look what i will say below
it has been confirmed that there will be rachni husks
which that basically does confirm they will be fighting with you but if killed or captured can be used against you
and i heard theories that if you saved the rachni it will make it harder or impossible to get aid from some council races but this part is not confirmed at all just rumours

Well Rakni had been indoctrinated by Sovereign which caused Raknii wars. Perhaps he had abducted some raknii and brang them to Reaper fleet, after that he came back.

the issue with that theory is that sovereign **ME1 SPOILERS** is that it is not in the rest of the trilogy and wont say any more in case someone here has not finished ME1

roll playing wise: whichever you feel like.
logic wise: Release. Why? Without spoiling anything, you are playing this game for an interesting plot and interesting game play. This is very obviously something that will have plot thread attached to it. If you kill her, your eliminating a whole subplot that might be fun to play through later in the story. So even if they turn on you, that's more gameplay.

The queen has a very nice way of expressing herself, they seem to be all about balance with nature and the hive-spirit (group-spirit). I quite liked it anyways, even though they look the badguy.
Couldn't just wipe them out, what she said just sounded.. you know, rather beautiful in a way.

Since this is an ME1 campaign thread I don't want to spoil what you learn about the Rachni in ME2. But suffice to say when the developers said that choices from the first game could heavily affect the third game, this is probably the prime example of that.

Well, I usually spare the queen... not because of her appeal though. As someone said in another thread, "I've got vats of acid over her head. Of course she's going to say anything to save her own skin." That includes asking you to kill the offspring. All life but the queen's is expendable in a hive, so if you've intelligent queen, she'll spin the dialog in any direction to save herself, including a convenient lie that leads to the killing of the rest of the hive since well, she's the queen, she can always rebuild the hive. I spare her because she hasn't committed a crime yet. I can't hold her responsible for the actions of her ancestors. Dr. Saleon, the warlord, Kyle, the Akuze scientist... they're all murderers and whether they live or die depends on my shep's mood that day, but the Rachni Queen is still technically innocent. If she comes back a mass murdering monster in a later ME, then I'll personally shove her into a plasma jet... but till then, she lives.

I always kill the Queen, probably because how difficult is to fight the rachni as an engineer/infiltrator class. I quite dislike her also. Seeing how she can control a dead asari body is already a strong warning that you should not underestimate their powers.
If you really care about humanity and other alien races survival, if you really care about the horrible fate krogans suffered because of rachni, killing the queen is the right thing to do.
