I still don't understand why Crossbows require dex rather than strength for the actual damage and yet bows get it from both.
Surely for actual damage output they should be the same? ie. a mix of both
Personally speaking I don't think it really matters on the class front, Sarevok's post shows how to some extent they are equally balanced, but then again am a person whom plays more for the character than the stats. I've got a warrior archer and a rogue archer, completed the game with the former and enjoying the latter just as much.

Rogue all the way - a Reaver wearing rouge just ends up inspiring laughter not fear...

Considering how many of the archery talents require a large amount of stamina on top of the one or two sustains that can be active at once in archery I'd say a warrior has the advantage if for no other reason than that after a rogue with Aim and Song of Courge active fires an arrow of slaying that's it, they're pretty much done using active abilities for that fight, while a warrior will still have enough stamina for one or two more abilities. That said, Bard and Ranger are easily the best DPS specilizations for a ranged character with high cunning and lethality. I'm not sure how anyone could come to the conclusion rogues lack a good archery specilization since both of these are very good. Warriors, on the other hand, don't really have any good archery specilizations, not damage wise anyway. I'd say the two base classes are pretty evenly matched overall.

The reason Ul as I understand it (devs perspective) is that Crossbows require strength to draw. Accuracy (hence dex) is less an issue with a crossbow because it is a stabile platform that a relative novice can use. A bow/short bow requires much more skill to use. Dex is needed because it isn't as stabile a platform and some strength to draw. In addition, the crossbow gets a speed penalty, which makes a lot of sense. But it hits harder and has a little more range.
All in all, its a pretty fair setup. Historically and in practice, no it doesn't quite measure up. I think what the devs are really saying is that dex = training when it comes to missile weapons. You do in the real world need dex to use a crossbow, but I think removing this was a gameplay decision that really doesn't detract much from the game unless you are hardcore, then yes its a bit annoying. Since they are pretty balanced.... *owl shrugs shoulders*

The perfect striking ability, assuming it works for crossbows/bows, should be a nice damage boost for the warriors.

From the same crossbow, a bolt to the shoulder shot by a body builder and a bolt to the shoulder shot by a 7 year old girl will hurt the same. Crossbows require strength to load, but beyond that strength has no effect on the potential damage.
By contrast, you need to very strong to use a good bow to its maximum damage potential.

I don't think anybody should exclusively use bows in this game. My character is an archer, but I only use bows in fights that tacticly require it, and to apply the special shots. When I've used up my stamina I pull out the dual blades and put some venom on them.
In short, I think archery is a great compliment to any rogue or fighter, but when you fill out the archery trees you shouldn't be afraid to boost your melee efficiency too, because outside of special attacks, you will be doing more damage in melee no matter what you do.
At first, this fact made me a bit angry, but then I realized that it's perfect. It's fun to play actively in this manner, and I suspect you can get a very good overall damage output by doing damage even when you are not close to an enemy. Just remember to pull out the daggers and backstab whenever possible as a rogue, or cleave skulls with your two-hander as soon as something gets close as a warrior.
I haven't tried warrior archer, though. All I can say is that rogues makes very good ones if you boost your cunning and get the leathality perk. Otherwise you will have to put a lot of points into strength that wont help your other abilities as much.

My Warden was a Warrior Archer from the get go. Given I had to wear at least some medium armor, it was well worth it when I got the perk where you could wear heavy armor without the penalty.
