I recently installed my Ultimate Edition (previously I had regular Dragon Age with no DLC, played it through once with one character year ago) and after struggling with some DLC issues (missing cd-key etc), was finally on my way. In Ostagar I immediately sold all my crap and bought the first backpack. Except it didn't work. When I buy the backpack, it goes into my inventory as an item rather than increasing my inventory slots. Weird, I thought, but decided to move on.

At the beginning of Korcari Wilds you encounter the body in the water that should contain a letter, add a codex entry and start the quest The Missionary. Well I looted the letter but nothing happened. Weird, I thought again. I kept clearing the area and after going through the whole area including secret locations I remembered from previous run, I still didn't have the quest. Only the quest plot items in my inventory with no codex entries and no quest to be found. I also had five or six darkspawn blood vials but the quest to collect those didn't register I had looted the items. Well something is broken here.. I completely uninstalled the game, rebooted, re-downloaded the 27GB using EA Downloader and started a completely new character. Rushed through the Origin story to buy my first backpack.. and broken. Everything I mentioned is still broken from Ostagar onwards.

So that's pretty much problem. I tried searching around the forum and Internet in general but really didn't find anything that resembled my problem. Any ideas how to proceed and fix these issues?:)

Two lines of thought... first, did you completely uninstall the previous version of DAO before installing Ultimate Edition? (That includes rebooting after the old one was uninstalled and before installing UE).

Second, do you have any mods installed?

Actually I've re-installed Windows completely since my original Dragon Age run so it shouldn't interfere. As for mods, I don't have any as far as I can remember but I did install the toolset back when it was released and messed around a bit.

So since you mentioned it, I decided to delete everything but my characters from My Documents\\Bioware\\Dragon Age\\ and after tweaking around a bit to get the game to recognize my DLC+Awakening again, what do you know, backpacks are now working! So problem solved for whatever reason :) (unless the quest is still bugged, will try later on today)

To the game's credit, it actually worked for few hours. That is, until I was punished by the change party screen bug detailed in this topic: http://social.biowar...58/index/175738

Not planning to start another character just to meet the next bug and I suppose there's no other way to fix this bug but to try a new character.

edit: I guess I'm going to try one more character. The game is just too good to pass. But this will be my last attempt at this.. seriously.

That's uber-frustrating.  Sorry you're still having problems.  Out of curiosity... in what format did you purchase the game.  Is it on disc or is a download from someplace?

One other thought... does your i5 CPU come with the Intel turboboost thing?  Where it will jump the CPU clock speed under load?  If so, you may consider experimenting with it turned off (not sure how to do it, but I know it can be done.  Google probably has the answer). DAO has some clunky coding and sometimes doesn't react well to anything that has a whiff of overclocking.

Finally, there's no timeable, but according to the devs, a 1.05 patch is in the works, and it appears they're looking at more than just DLC issues (re: stability with Win 7 64).  So there's hope on the distant horizon, too.  I know that doesn't help now, but it might eventually.

Best,

RI

The answer to that is actually the first part of my problems with the Ultimate Edition. I ordered the Ultimate Edition on DVD around six months ago from the UK (TheHut), just when it was released, but only got to installing it last Monday. Well except the installer didn't actually work. It loads for few seconds and then quits itself. We actually tried the disc on couple of different computers/DVD drives just to make sure but it just wouldn't work. Luckily EA Downloader accepts retail cd-keys so that problem was quickly solved (except for the inevitable problems you get with EA Downloader version of the game eg. DLC unauthorized, no cd-key in registry etc. but those were easy to fix as well).

---
There is actually Turbo Boost technology on this CPU but I disabled all that stuff the day I got the CPU. Not that I ever had stability problems with Dragon Age, but I guess it's possible something like that could mess up with the game as well.
---

Anyway, I rushed through the early parts of the game in less than two hours and I'm now at Loithering. And Change Party finally works, as does everything else so far. So my theory is that whatever I did with the toolset back when I had installed messed up all my future characters and even though I deleted the folders yesterday, my characters were already corrupted and while backpacks and such finally did work, some other parts of the character files were still corrupted and I first encountered problems with the party options. I don't really remember doing much anything with the toolset after installing it but who knows. Well, hopefully it's all fixed now. At least everything seems fine. Except maybe my mental health after playing the human noble Origin story four times in two days. Guess I would be a lousy game tester, eh?

Oh and thanks for the replies.
