Honestly, who care about the graphics? What makes a game: its story and its gameplay. Especially for RPGs.

Sometimes not even the story. People say DA 2 didn't have a story? Play Storm of Zehir. It's a great exploration and open world-ish RPG. Not like a Bethesda game, but an open world pen and paper type experience. The overworld map also harkens back to other, older RPGs.

But I think graphics are less the problem than art style.

Fallout 1/2 has **** graphics by today's standards, but don't ever tell me that it's art style and direction sucks.

What people are objecting to, aren't the technical graphics, that belongs on the Crysis forums. What people don't like is the new art direction as seen in the Elves, Qunari, Darkspawn, etc.

Personally, I like the new Qunari look, makes them more distinguishable. Hate the Clownspawn look. Kill it with fire.

Mixed on the Elves. I don't really like it, but it's not bad either. Maybe a half way point between the Origins design and the Kirkwall design so they don't necessarily contradict the look of either game, but also don't look like Aerie and the Na'vi had children.

DAII compared to Skyrim and The Witcher 2 looks very cartoonish. I would definitly support DAIII making their artwork more realistic. And get rid of the washout coloring effect. A lot of these new avatars that are popping up look like they are in a smoked filled room in their parents basement.

If they are going to go back to a realistic style in DA3, I'd much rather they work on improving character art, material shaders, lighting and level design.

The character customization had always been on the meh side. Games like EVE online or APB have more complex customization systems that go as far as changing body type.

DA:O had "grit". DA2 is clean in comparison.

I hate DA2's art "style".

That plus the over the top animation is what gives the cartoony feel.

I like colours aside from brown. So please, keep the art style. The game has lots of issues, but the art style is not one of them to me.

Also liked the differentiation of the races. But it seems a lot of people don't like the new elves (I like 'em though).

Apparently, 2H-wielding warriors all wear Air Jordans, seeing as they can jump 20 feet into the air while performing Mighty Blow.

If you go for realistic graphics, consoles are going to fall behind considerably again.

Assassin's Creed worked well on consoles.

Agree.

I'd like to see DA3 with a more realistic art style, something like Origins but looks better would be best. And consoles will run it just fine so no problem.

All great games with aweful graphics. Each game here is 100000x better than alot of games our days.

Also DAO had flags that fluttered in the wind. In DA2 they were all made of lead. DAO had the spinning windmill while everything was static in DA2.

Great point, actually.

No leaves move, no flags waver in the wind.
It's picture static.

FFS; Temple of Elemental Evil had moving leaves and living trees... :(

Good graphics doesn't equal a good game, but it certainly helps. I don't think they should abandon everything new in DA2 - afterall Origins was just like your cookiecutter fantasy RPG in that department - but they should refine some things and make them more plausible, more realistic.

I can't disagree with that.
All i want to say is that it is possible to make a game with good graphics and good story.

It is :) I think the Assassin's Creed series is the best example of how to combine pure action with a great story.

I loathe platform games as a rule, but can't help liking that one.

I know what you mean the Uncharted series are one of the few games i'm willing play with shooting elements. The other ones are the ME and Bioshock games.

In all three cases DA2 fails.

The hurlocks have definitely gotten the short stick in the redesign department. They used to be sickly, oily things with permanent slasher grins, so that you could easily see their mere touch corrupting and spreading the blight disease. No they just look like ordinary undeads, and ridicuously clean ones at that. Plus the new armor and equipment, neverminding the cartoonish look *cough*he-man*cough* don't really look at all like the crude, rough patchwork like it was in DAO. Back then you couldn't look at them and not imagining it was probably painful to wear due to all the unfinished barbs.

Uhh, you guys realize that the art style changed because DA:O's graphics were critically panned. So to increase the 'longevity' of this engine they spent some 5 years on, and to downplay the whole graphics bit, they made everything highly stylized and unrealistic looking.

They did the EXACT same thing to TOR. Purposefully made it cartoony, that way it's graphics will never need updating, because it's the 'style' they chose. [to be fair Warcraft did it too and it worked]

For DA2, it's a cheap cop out to get mileage out of a graphically weak engine.

Tell me i'm not the only one who realizes this.
