Since i dont own a console, ive never had to deal with DLC.
How does it work? Apart from features, locations and items... for example the DLC 'Lair of the Shadow Broker' or 'The Arrival', when you purchase them and install them, how do you 'initiate' them and when? It probably seems very obvious to you, but to me it is sort of curious as you have a set story, that 'ends' at the end of the game. Then you have extra missions added to the game.
Is there some sort of FAQ for these DLC that tells me not just how, but when i should play them?

For lair of the shadow broker you get a extra dialogue choice with liara to start it, overlord you just get an email and a planet to go to, arrival you get a cutscene when you check your mail which gives you a planet to go to, kasumi you just talk to on the citadel to get her, same with zaeed except he's on omega

When you first get onto the Normandy in ME2, you'll be able to access the DLC and will get codex entries and such telling you about them. You get to choose when you want to play them, just like you get to choose which recruitment missions you want to do when. You can do them right away, hold off until later, wait until after you've finished the main game or not play them at all.

Ahh i see. So there is no set time ''you should finish the game before doing 'the arrival' or the story will be out of place'' kind of thing?
EDIT - If there is no required time to complete these extra missions, can you offer me a time i 'should' do them story-wise? For example, i have read the DH comics featuring my character's LI Liara, 'helping' my character kind of, and losing a friend to the Shadow Broker. Right now, i am on my first play through of ME2 and i am currently on Illium doing her original quest (i have yet to purchase Shadow Broker DLC - lazy etc). Would it be ideal to have the Shadow Broker mission installed and ready for when i complete the original mission, so the story 'flows'?

I Recommand doing Arrival after youve completed the game, it makes more sense ''Story wise'' to it by then. Else it dosent really make sense and if you play it before youve completed the game, you will find out quick why it dosent make sense.

Judging from the advertisements, yes i agree. Whilst i may purchase and install it today, i will follow your advice and fully complete the main story in the game first, before doing The Arrival as im sure it is designed (being the last ME2 DLC) to set up ME3.Vez04 wrote...
