Perhaps the DLC is a test?

No, hear me out.  Bioware has to be wondering if all the hate they read on the forums and elsewhere is a widely held opinion of DA2 or just a vocal minority.  So they release DLC that does nothing to fix the problems so often complained about here, but that would appeal to those gamers who do like the game but abandoned the forums long ago.  If the DLC sells well, bioware "knows" that they do have a large if silent group who do like the game and are willing to continue supporting it.  if it sells poorly (comapred to similar DLC for ME2 I guess) they "know" that the haters are much more common then they want to believe.

Think about it.  It has to be obvious to everyone that this DLC won't bring anyone back to the DA bandwagon, but it just might let them know how many people are still quietly going along for the ride.  Then bioware and their EA masters can decide whether to make more DLC, begin work on DA3, or just abandon this series altogether.

Anything extrapolated from that notion by respondents, without some confirmation from the powers that be, would be at best, pure conjecture. They won't release how many sold, nor would anyone posting in these forums that they made purchases or not, be anything meaningful, since their numbers would be very small, compared to the larger picture of those who don't venture here. It would be easy to assume that around 95% of the purchases would be by console owners wanting something different, and by the fact they cannot use mods. How would you count them in the mix when most of the complaints on these forums regarding DA2 are largely from PC gamers only.

If the DLC sells well, bioware "knows" that they can get away with garbage because gullible people like to throw money away.

fixed for you, I can't simply find how anyone who actually likes RPG's and games supporting this mediocre DLC that can be put out by any other fan with mods and the like

and I can't see how anyone who actually likes Bioware approving their upholding of the Toolset in order to release these half-assed DLC's in order to get a quick buck

And do you believe that everyone who actually enjoyed playing DA2, are going to buy this DLC, just because they liked the game?

Nope. It's only just a way to earn easy money from thus who will buy it.

There is no test. Bioware sold out long ago. It's never going to be about quality anymore, it's all about milking their name and franchise. Get ready to throw your money away again and again if you are that gullible.

This DLC is their attempt at a cash grab. The testing is more a minor bonus objective.

EVERY DLC is a test to see if fans still support a game. If you like paying extra for clothing and unbalanced weapons, be my guest and God bless you. If you don't, save your points up for LIMBO. Bioware, and anyone whose goal it is to earn money for its efforts, has to right to get as much of our money as we're willing to part with. Personally, I recommend fans hold off until the price drops, but I'm not going to call Bioware evil because it charges what people are willing to pay.

Just something for us to play with until they release a story DLC.

Chances are that the DLC were planned out before the game was even released.

Still, data is data. I'm just saying that I don't think that is their reasoning rather than saying the info obtained by the success or failure of the DLC is useful for such determining or not.

If they do use low sales to indicate lack of interest in the game as a whole, that would be a shame. I have no interest in an item pack but I'd gladly pay for story-based DA2 DLC.

I might pay for a DLC that fixes a good chunk of the story, and if they can, the silly wave combat and exploding bodies. Hmm, perhaps add into that the silly ninja moves by everyone as well, and slowing down combat a bit.

Big ifs, but hey. my three cents.

I personally bought the DLC. I believe there are some incredibly annoying and superfluous flaws in the game. However, I had extra points on my account and I figured why not. Not like I have anything better to do. ME2 is starting to get a little old after beating it with every class and I already have two ME1 level 60 exports with and without the council save. It's just a little something that will help me through my 3 nightmare play throughs. After my 3 complete playthroughs it's save games to seperate folder and uninstall. Not broken up about the cost really.

You just gave me an idea.  I'm not a programmer type, so I don't know if it's practical or not, though,

Imagine a game with a slider in the Options tab that allows you to determine how outlandish the combat animations and blood fountaining are.  It could start with "Understated" and end with "Kowabunga!"  If there's one thing DA2 discussions have taught us, it's how diverse preferences can be even within the RPG genre (disclaimer: I think RPG's have become too diverse for a meaningful genre designation) can be.  I wonder if a wider variety of gameplay options (some of them cosmetic) could be a reasonable solution to broaden appeal.

I never bought any DLC for Dragon Age: Origins and only picked up Liar of the Shadow Broker for Mass Effect 2, but all the moaning, ****ing, and whining makes me want to pick up the item pack.

That's make sense. Well.. then it is something I eagerly await for result. If we can only find a way to know the result, it would be great.

I'll play the game itself.

I won't buy the item DLC until I hear something from the devs about story DLC. I just don't want to throw away my money yet. I'm not gonna be one of those posters that keeps saying the same **** over and over again about how this item DLC is proof that Bioware has sold out, wants only money, etc.

I don't like the idea of an Item Pack DLC at this moment in time. Not that it's horrible, but just because I'm afraid that might be the only type of DLC we get (unlikely, but my fears are there). Once I hear something about story DLC, like a name and maybe a little summary, I'll buy the item DLC.

And by little summary, I mean like Return to Ostagar or Warden's Keep did. You knew you were going back to Ostagar to avenge the Grey Wardens' deaths. That was enough.

Feastday gifts and pranks was more or less the same as this DLC, except it came out after some story DLC. But it was still an item pack DLC. Plus, you got an Alistair voodoo doll. That's just epic (sadly, I can't use the word awesome anymore. It feels wrong)

But if this is the only type of DLC we're getting, then Mike Laidlaw's talk about DLC being beefier makes me want to slap somebody or punch a wall. It's beefier all right. But it's also rotten. rotten beef.

This is the main reason I'm seriously considering buying it. That and just going "Ooo pretty" at the armor. Spending five bucks to get BSN users to scream at more item dlc? That's definatly worth every penny.

Actually all who attack the item DLC are biodrones in disguise who are doing the Reverse Psychology thingy on us. In other words, as Prof. Moody would say, CONSTANT VIGILANCE!!!

Congrats, you've set back the notion that women can be logical 100 years with that comment.
