I like Ash, but she was having a hard time against the Geth at Eden Prime. Jack fought her way out of Purgatory *solo,* single-handedly killing two YMIRs in the process. Ash would get her ass handed to her.

Yeah, but Jack outside of cutscenes isn't very strong (well at least I can't use her worth ****. She dies to quickly and I dislike micromanaging companions. Liara didn't have this problem.) I can't see her taking full auto to the face from someone who actually knows how to fire a gun. Plus Ash has immunity which is the greatest defensive ability of all time. EVER. If both were at there best (you can level higher in ME1 but lets say Ash only leveled overkill, immunity, and shield up or whatever it's called) I think Ash would win. But going by Jack's cutscene she could throw Ash out a window or something. There would be massive wounds on both sides though because remember, Ash gets a lot better from Eden Prime to the battle of the citadel.

Gameplay mechanics don't reflect lore, nor do they reflect an individual's powers and abilities.

Ash is dead in my playthrough, but....

Jack would smear her on the floor, and I wouldn't mind seeing it. <3 I love Jack.

To answer this question more seriously, I think Ashley might feel betrayed, and Jack might feel suddenly unsure about her relationship with Shepard. As we know, Jack has major trust issues, and she might find it harder to trust Shepard, if Ashley re-enters the picture. This all assumes, of course, that dying wasn't a proper means of breaking up with Ashley.

If you're expecting a huge catfight, I think you're going to be seriously disappointed...

I mean, look at the whole scenario if you'd opted to start a relationship with Jack when your Shepard had originally romanced Liara - Liara is a bit upset to start with, throws a few barbed comments, but later, once she's cooled down, she's accepting of the fact that Shepard has moved on and wishes Jack and Shep the best despite obviously being hurt. She handles it like an adult, not some cheerleader that lost her jock. And this was the character that had no real relationship experience because she spent her life with her nose in a book. If Ash throws some kind of sh*tfit, she comes over as exceptionally childish, and I doubt the writers will want her to come off like that. She might be hurt, sure. Pissed, almost certain. But she's not going to start all the rolling about on the ground pulling hair... not that Jack's got much to pull (remember kids, smart combatants deprive an opponent of hair to grab... stupid ones take out shares in Loreal - yes, I'm looking at you ME3 Ash redesign).

Jack though... surely she'd be the sort to get all up in Ash's grill, huh? I don't think so myself. Run through her romance - Jack melts like snow in a furnace. I reckon you abandon Jack, she'll walk away with a broken heart and you'll never see her again a'la the way Alistair and Morrigan can leave the party (potentially, and for their own reasons) in DA:O. She'll rise to a challenge, but I doubt she'd start a fight over it. In fact, I think Jack would be more likely to sabotage the relationship with Shepard because maybe she wouldn't feel as though Shep should be with her in comparison to Ash... push him away because he deserves better, perhaps? Someone less damaged and complicated. That makes a whole lot more sense to me than a catfight would. I think based on evidence thus far, BioWare will play this kind of confrontation smart - they have once already.

But if it had to happen, had to, just to appease, I think it would play out a little like this:

Bambi - I mean Ash meets Jack

I mean, let's face facts, one woman has a gun, the other is a gun

Jack is the most power biotic in the ME universe... so if she couldn't do it on her own I'd step in.

Correction*- Shepard is the most powerful human biotic in the ME univierse

Don't think you being serious but I’m bored so I’ll respond anyway.
Sheprad is defiantly not the strongest biotic in the universe and weaker than Jack. It just doesn’t come across in gamplay. I'd imagine Tali and legion are better techs the engineer Shepard too. Like most "heroes" in these sort of stories Shepards strength is leading, strong will and an unwavering determination!

That is hardly fair though. ME2 was an action game and it tried its hardest to make every cutscene as epic as possible. ME1 was an RPG and a game that told a story. It's cutscenes were to make Saren and the Geth look formidable. It would be like comparing Master Chief from the first Halo to N6. Obviously N6 would look more badass because the cutscenes were designed to make him seem cool.

Cutscenes aren't gameplay mechanics. Gameplay mechanics, and the related flavor, break lore, which makes it non-canon, and simply there for the sake of gameplay.

EDIT: This topic is kind of off-topic.

I don't get it. Is this a fight thread or are you trying to choose which one to romance?
