Hello,

I bought Mass Effect 1 on Steam today, and sadly it does not function for me. I read quite a few posts online for fixes to the Windows 7 issue, such as run in Compatability for "XP Service Pack 3", "Vista Service Pack 2", or "Run as Admin". None of those has worked for me. I checked in the configuation settings and my game is at v1.02.

When I run with "Run as admin" and with compatability for "XP Service Pack 3", I get this interesting error message.

General protection fault!

History: GMatrix2D::Swap() Address = 0x10bb5c66 (filename not found) [in
c:\\[rpgram files (x86)\\steam\\steamapps\\common\\mass
effect\\Binaries\\MassEffect.exe]
Address = 0x15b33ee4 (filename not found)

If there is a solution for this, I would very much like to have it, I don't want to have to go through the aggravating process of trying to get a refund from Steam.

One critical piece of information is missing from that: the graphics chip.

This might be the source of the problem.  Intel graphics aren't supported for Mass Effect, but a driver update might help.  Download the latest drivers here.

Near as I can tell it worked to upgrade my drivers. I'm on the Start new Career screen. I'll keep you posted if it fails again, but for now, TYVM!
