Third, very speculative, conclusion: I bet, most Ash-haters a young man or boys. I´d love to see if there are correlations between liking/hating Ash - gender - age. I bet there are.

P.S. why do I like Ash? why did my MShep fellt in love with her? I´am an adult men, and he wants a relationship at eye-level.

Well here's the first for you....40 year female....spent youth traveling alone, gypsy style...on a wing and a prayer...around Australia. Worked and raised family alone, only recently became partnered and my daughters are almost grown up.

I don't like Ash....Why I don't like Ash is predominatley her abrasiveness and her arrogence (anthropromorphic) ...I don't believe a woman (or a man for that matter) needs to scream and shout her determined independance...in fact to be independant, someone who screams and shouts about it is usually trying to cover the fear that their not...in other words who are they trying to prove it to? Others or themselves.

Actually I agree with that. Ashley's aggressiveness comes off as insecure. It's annoying.

Ash isn't someone I could hate or dislike in mass effect 1, I liked her character more than liara, but just as equally as I like tali's character. but in ME2 it gave out a sense of lack of trust between shepard and ash. It not like I hate her I hate her faith in shepard.

Ash is not that self-assured and independent as she claims, i agree. And she builds some walls to protect herself. But she is willing to speak about this and finally let them down, the most if Shep romances her. To me this is a far more believable behaviour than Tali/Liara show it.

Well, shouldn't you pity her, then?

According to you, her behavior is not what could be considered "normal" or "healthy", and it is a reflection of her attempts to hide her own insecurities.

Obviously, you don't have to like it, and it's not your responsibility to deal with it either, but do you really think you are any better than her when you antagonize someone who obviously has issues?

I liked Ashley.  I think a lot of gamers/fans of the series just don't believe in things Ashley does.  Not being able to relate.   Being Athiest, video gaming no poetry, politically correct fans.

According to me, very, very few people are actually healthy, I know I'm certainly not either, we all just do the best we can...Normal is just a state of mind, define 'Normal'?

Who said anything about antagonizing anyone? My Shep certainly doesn't antagonize Ash and I have no wish to role play him to do so, I role play him as polite and friendly with her...why be an a**hole just because you don't like someone...And no, I'm not really into all that who's better than who rubbish... I'm just making an observation. Though one quality I admire greatly in people, are those who can be honest with themselves, Ash does not have that quality.

so you think, she is not aware of playing a role most time? (don´t know how to express it better)
what about the "romance dialog"?

Only partly romanced her by mistake once...reloaded...my Shep doesn't romance either her or Liara...I hear you can start softening Ash's views if you romance her, though I personally don't see what romance has to do with it....someone is either willing to have a closer look at themselves or not...if they do it just to appease someone they wish to please, then its pretty much a moot point, it's something they need to do for themselves, not another.

The way Ash harps on about how independant and tough she is, belies her insecurity...if she is aware of playing that role and is doing it on purpose, that just makes her very arrogent with a major chip on her shoulder.

agreed, but i think it makes her to appear arrogant, not really being it. that´s somewhat you can see often in real life

if you made her trust in Shep she´s willing to argue about her views on aliens

agreed, but i think she allows herself this look on herself, but only a few other people (MShep romance) this look on her "real self", because she´s is not only mistrusting aliens but have also problems to find trust in humans (family history)

She's not an idealized action girl like a lot of female video game characters. She has flaws, she's a little bit xenophobic (but isn't everybody) (i.e. not morally perfect), and she isn't OVERLY sexualized. These are things you're not supposed to get away with in pop culture with female characters.

About her "harping on about how she's independant". It might be because I'm biased or that I haven't played ME1 in a while, but where does she do this? All I knows is she says she "doesn't need a knight in shining armour" (which in all honesty I found rather cheesy), and that's only when you romance her. Considering her background, I wasn't surprised that she was wary of entering into a relationship with Shep.

golden owl tried to make a point against my speculations about Ash-haters

what she said about Ash independence, i think golden owl is right. Ash also said somtething like "i don´t need a man to be happy" and that´s obviously not 100% truth

Simple. Some dislike Ashley Williams because her personality is strongly against their tastes. That's completely undestandable.
The real hate - that usually comes from people who either doesn't understand the character or overlook things. Therefore saying she's racist, hateful, zealous, remorseless and ungrateful. These are the most popular hate-modalities with her, and all of them comes from misunderstanding or not looking into the given situations.

you may like or dislike Ash, no question. But HATE, in german (i´am german) that implies very strong emotions. don´t know if this is explainable that simple. would like to know waht you though about "my theorie", third post, page 11

Freakin' hell. Now I'm gonna have to replay my Male!Shep. That would be the 7th time when/if I get to it. And really, those words sound like crappy lyrics to an annoying song. I really doubt BW would convey it that way. :/

don´t know literally what Ash said and i´am playing german...
to me it was somewhat teasing with somewhat truth. and her behaviour later is a little different, isn´t it?

I think she just plays tough because she doesn't want to give her family a worse reputation than they already have.

*Shakes fist at heavens* Darn it BioWare! You could have worded it differently! That just sounds bad. I mean, not just in context to what the other guys were talking about. It sounds bad in general!

Nah I just think folk take it too literally. All she means is she is happy on her own as she is with who she is.
