I will just go on the record as being a HUGE Alistair fan. In my opinion he is the single best character in the DA franchise bar none.


I have finally finished the game enough times to have witnessed all of the possible Alistair cameos avaliable in DA2, and to be honest I'm a little horrified at what was done to him.


Oh Alistair your face, your beautiful beautiful face. What have they done to it?
And your hands; it's like they were cut off and replaced with wooden prosthetics.


And it's not just the looks that have suffered.
While the voice acting is still excellent; many of the little one liners that made Alistair so beloved in the original are now just cringe worthy in DA2. Here's one example:

I mean really, he may as well have turned to the screen and winked at the player. It was sooooo ridiculously hammy.

"Swooping is bad" wasn't very good the first time. Really, DA2 is packed with self-indulgent WINK WINK, AREN'T WE SO FUNNY FORUMITES comments in the dialogue. I wouldn't mind a joke puncturing the atmosphere every once in a while, but there's no tension to break.

I was too distracted by the horrors of what was done to Teagan's face to pay attention to Alistair's.

But you both summed up my feelings on the dialogue. That line was painfully done. They should have stuck with Cassandra's version of the line. Was much subtler.

I agree. I think Alistair, Teagan, and (especially) Zevran look horrible compared to Origins. I try to picture them in the cutscenes as they were in Origins.

Alistair does look like hes been eating one too many pies. If you have the PC version, then you can find a head morph at Nexus to replace his fat face.

What do you mean "Swooping is bad wasn't very good the first time". It was gold I tell ya PURE LITERARY GOLD!

Seriously though, there wasn't really any attempt at sublty here. It's like they decided they were going to use that one reference well before they figured out where it could fit into the story. It felt like it was shoehorned into the conversation.

Maybe I'm looking back at Alistair's character from DA:O with rose coloured glasses, but it seems his dialogue in DA2 is not of the same quality.

Only Leliana looked pretty good in her cameo. All the other suffered from the "butcher their face to fit in our new graphic style, so we can make a cameo with them" syndrom.

That's the only reason why I don't want to see Morrigan again. If she suddenly looks like the Sacred Ashes Morrigan... uhm... I prefered my old ingame Morri.

Poor Zevran. Someone hit him in the face with a shovel and then shaved his eyebrows off. His famed luck only manged to save his boots from being stolen.

I didn't think he looked that bad. One version was supposed to be a drunkard and the other older and with a huge supply of cheese. Teagan was the most odd-looking.

Alistair had some cringe-worthy references, that is what I disliked.

That 'Agent' person using her name was just a disguise. Secret agents do that you know. She's just a sneaky...agent... thief. Yes that. They sent another imposter to Vigil Keep to fake being the Warden.

No no no. Leliana was selected to beta test the Decoy power we get in DA2. It was due to this field test that she made the reccomendation for the explosive upgrade.

I didn't know drinking caused Petrified Hand Syndrome.
You'd think they would put info like that into public service announcements.



In my opinion Leliana is the only cameo character who looks better in the sequel then she did in the original.
It's like everone else had to be smacked in the face with a 2x4 before being allowed to appear in the new game.

I know it's more realistic for the characters to have physical imperfections. But really, if I enjoyed realism I would probably go outside and get a real life instead of spending all my time playing fantasy RPGs.

So that people deny that he was there, or it needing to have dozens of threads about it. I might be biased as I didn't study him as intently as an average Alistair fan would though.

Haven't seen his GW appearance, but the king one worked decently up until the end. Then came the "swooping is bad" line which actually made me cringe.

Edit: Apart from that, none of the cameo's I had bothered me. Zevran looked a bit different, but then again, all elves did.
