I've come up with a fool-proof fix for everything except the swooping recap:

I close my eyes.

Any scene with Alistair or Zevran is thereby rendered in original DA perfection.

Edit -- Yes I really do close my eyes and use my imagination.  It's just too painful otherwise.

...I actually also thought of conspiracies, at one point. I thought they would have ...well....done THAT to Alistair so that I wouldn't yearn for him amidst all my Anders romancing...

I've been wondering if Alistair and Zevran were last minute additions. Zevran in particular looks like someone shrugged and said "well, we're outta time".

Seriously though, there wasn't really any attempt at sublty here. It's like they decided they were going to use that one reference well before they figured out where it could fit into the story. It felt like it was shoehorned into the conversation.

Maybe I'm looking back at Alistair's character from DA:O with rose coloured glasses, but it seems his dialogue in DA2 is not of the same quality.

I totally agree with you. In DAO "Swooping is bad" was amazing, but in DA2 it was something unnessessary.
I also felt Alistair was and still is one of the best characters in the DA universe.
And I was really horrified to find out what Bioware did to Alistair....and also Zevran and Teagan. I can't understand why they couldn't redesign them in the new DA2 style. It worked well with Cullen  and Leliana for example.
Well, but since DA2 was a horrible game in my opinion I am just avoiding playing it again and seeing them with such ugly faces....

I get why DA2 Zevran can't look like DA:O Zevran, but there's really no excuse for the bloated crap-heap sitting atop Alistair's neck in DA2. It's just carelessness.
