OK These are the results from a poll I conducted to see if their was such relation between LI interests popularity and their favourite squad members and the results seem to show in my eyes that often the LI's seem to help because the ones that tended to be the most popular love interests in the polls like Tali, Miranda, Garrus, Kaidan end up top of the favourite poll

but it appears it does not secure it for other like Liara (who has large amount of votes for female shepherd votes and a decent amount for male shepherd votes did not manage to get very high) and other characters like ashley, jack and liara got the same vote levels for male shepherd and they managed to stay very similar to each other in favourite poll

The theory appears not to stand up with the female shepherd romances though because those apart from garrus and Kaidan tended to be right at the bottom of the poll making their romances almost pointless in the views of the poll results.

Especially when you consider wrex managed to get close to liara with no romance option and mordin managed to beat them with no romance option as well.

Which i conclude that the LI's seem to have a positive effect on romances but only for those who were the most popular romances.
