That massacre even the helpless, in a religous drive.
Not nice at all, more like the "do what it takes" vision of the wardens mixed with fanatical inquisitor drives.
In DA:2 Cassandra seems reasonable and more keen on truth than vengence.
However given she seems to have a massive fear of something big and nasty I'd say this may be an act.
The journal entry makes them seem like an old order that had gone through events the same or worse than Kirkwall.
So maybe they have a long history and Kirkwall is the first sign of what they already have faced once.

I must of missed that in Witch Hunt, where does it say that?

It has a warded catch that stops it being opened...
However on the cover it has a picture of black armoured warriors, with a golden sun motiff.
Cutting down mages on their knees begging for mercy, and or demons.
I'll load up a save and see if I got it wrong though later, it's been a while and is only a small in game plot hint.

I'd say the general "pursuit" is to keep the face of the chantry clean while keeping their messes kept under the rug.

I've looked under tables
I've tried to find the key
To fifty million fables
They call me The Seeker
I've been searching low and high
I won't get to get what I'm after
Till the day I die

What outcome do you think the Seekers in general (not just Cassandra seeking peace) are pursuing?
My guess. I think the Seekers are trying to put the Genie of the Mage revolt back in the bottle no matter how much blood it takes. As a further guess, I'd say it's an exercise in futility.

You don't think that it will possible for players to stop the mages in a future game?

I didn't say that. I said that it would be an act of futility to try to go back to the old circle system. Either the mages will have to be given some human rights or they will have to be destroyed. Say hello to the Qunari in the later case.

I think that ship has sailed.
I think the seekers have faced this before, that with "nightingale" and Cassandra it's not the mages they seek to stop.
Rather something or one pulling the strings.
Kirkwall and the Enigma of Kirkwall journal entries seems to make out that what is going on with the templars / mages has happened at least once before.
Going on a spitball here, I think the Seekers are a group that have been hanging around waiting for portents.
Just like the wardens wait for the darkspawn / Archdemon, the seekers have seen Kirkwall as first sign of something that they've been waiting to return.
Sandal talks of someone bringing the magic back.
Flemith, Morrigan and some others warn of change, Morrigan tells the warden that some are willing to do anything to stop this from happening.
I have the feeling that the seekers are the anti change party, but depending on what evidence you see that may make them the good guys or bad guys.

Logic aside, I doubt BW would punish players siding against the mages with losing to the Qunari. I get the impression that they worked hard to present the Templars as a serious option in DA2 - more than just the "evil" choice. If things turn out like you suggest then they would be working against themselves. Almost no one would side with the templars.

Crushing prison from DAO maybe but DA2? Bah, like a few mosquito bites, now as you wait for your mana meter to regenerate Krogan will CHARGE!

Unless you are explicitly evil, no one should side with the Templars. Really.

Complete chantry domination?
You jest but that's exactly what I think the Seekers are trying to preserve. The Seekers aren't dumb (normally....just very inattentive apparently when it came to Kirkwall). If the mage revolt gains any traction at all, the secular rulers will likely use it to break away from the Chantry (like Fereldan already is) and/or the Qunari will conquer everyone because of lack of battlemagic.
The Seekers want to avoid this while keeping the Chantry in change. I expect it will be an exercise in futility....and the new Lelianna is making me like Lelianna in general less and less.

Could have fooled me. She does a very damned good impression of being very rapidly anti-mage when we see her as Sister Nightengale...and I'm far from the only one that's said so. [And very unlike DAO Lelianna]

I disliked the poor writting in the Faith quest when she appears.
The end movie was quite good though.
If it is the seekers next, I hope they have the balls to make her a non companion friend / enemy.
I love my red head bard chantry sister, but some bite would be better for her after DA:2.
