*Cough*Battlefield3*Cough*

The only reason it wouldn't is that there will be a supreme, king-of-the-hill CoD this year or because people are so used to eating fast food that they won't recognize a wonderful restaurant dinner.
(Okay, the latter might be true nowadays, BF3 FTW anyways!)

Oh, and Bioware, just stick to the the stuff you know and improve/expand on that. Don't just abandon everything for a mass market.

sorry i cannot brain today i got the dumb. what info do you mean, i am a bit confused here?

The info about how well DA2 sold in the 1st weeks and dropped like stones. In fact it's probably preferrable to EA's that a game sold in DA2's pattern rather than DA:O. With DA2 they had 1-2 weeks of bigger numbers to print on their financial statement. Sure DA:O had legs, but those latter weeks' sales numbers aren't exactly anything to boast to investors. That's why EA places so much emphasis on pre-orders. They NEED those numbers.

But then again, DA2 sold better in 1-2 weeks than DA:O, but not THAT much better. Around 25% maybe?

Pre-orders - they make up for the majority of all copies sold yet.

"Pre-orders - they make up for the majority of all copies sold yet."

I thought preorders totalled around 400k, and DA2 has sold a mil+? If those numbers are acccurate... it doesn't sound like a 'majority' to me.... Hmm...

I believe there has been shipped c. 1,000,000 copies rather than having actually sold them, or something to that effect. Bioware phrased it quite carefully, and even if you look at the figures it doesn't add up to a million copies sold anyway. The money made from the first week will far outstrip that made afterwards anyway because those 400,000 or so pre-orders were ordered at full price whereas now the price has dropped rapidly.

Oh, my fault, I somehow had 600.000 in mind, with 400.00, that certainly isn't the majority yet about 40%....thanks for the correction! I heavily doubt though that Dragon Age 3 will even be close to having as many pre-orders...

My mistake, i'd skipped most of the thread and I just checked the first page now and the graph states that around 550,000 pre-orders of DA2 were made. I'm not sure where Volourn got the 400,000 figure from, I just assumed he was correct for the sake of the point I was trying to make.

I have no proof about the 400k pre orders. That's justb a number that's been bandied/spammed about.

P.S. DA2 has sold over a mil for sure though. It sold mil+ in less than 2 weeks.

Don't ever do that. Really. I mean it. Go to the Codex if you need to.

No disrespect intended, princess.

We bandy around the 400k number a lot. Does anyone actually have a source?

Indeed, EA have made reasonably sized net losses recently. That's extremely bad for a company of their size and position within the industry.

Well what can you expect when you release garbage like Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Underground 15 and even worse... Command and Conquer 4?

And even worse... Dragon Age 2.

Crysis 2 and Dead Space 2 were good

i just wish they weren't so focused on dethroning Activision and Call of Duty/World of Warcraft... never gonna happen

Can you give me the link that shows where BioWare states this game has sold 1 million+.

All I have found is a thread where Chris says "it reached the million+ mark", doesnt say sold or shipped...

You shouldn't trust anything Volourn ever says, that's why he's on my ignore list ;)

First two week sales (including preorders) are counted towards marketing, reputation of the company and success of prequels ...
Third and following weeks are counted towards quality of the game as all the reviews are posted as well as word-of-mouth is spread ...

Simply put ... you cant say preorder = people who loved DA:O and everything else = people who didnt love DA:O ... that makes no sense as most of your other "arguments"

Did the BioWare staff just discover the term confirmation bias?

As someone who's still paying off for his education in psychology, it's a bit frustrating. Like someone who knows how to cook watching someone hold a knife wrong.

Yes they will!

They just need more BU'ON=AWESOME next time! That way, Dragon Age 3 will sell TEN BILLION copies. That's right, one for every person alive, and a copy for future generations to enjoy, because the bu'on needs to make things that AWESOME happen!

I agree with you about the 400k pre-orders - I haven't seen any official confirmation of this.  And what did that figure supposedly contain?  Did that include steam pre-orders?

Also, we don't know that DA2 has sold 1m+ copies at all.  If you read all statements from Bioware regarding the 1 million copies, they are very careful to not once use the word sold.  I believe the exact phrase that is used again and again is 'hitting the 1 million mark' - whether that means sold or shipped or anything in between, we'll likely never know.

But if somebody has a link for the 400k pre-orders, I'd love to see it! Posted Image

If CoD's a McDonald's burger....then DA2 is not some wonderful restaurant dinner. They're more like an Arby's French Onion dip sandwich. Not great, not bad, and rather small when compared to Quizno's dips (which are a comparably priced).

They never will. I'm afraid TOR isn't going to do too good against WoW, unless TOR offers very similar gameplay experience to WoW. Hell, I think Guild Wars 2 is gunna trounce TOR, and its no monthly fee.

And by looking at the chart, week 1 moved more units than DA:O, and we ca assume a good chuck of week 1 sales was due to the 400k+ pre-orders. Week 2 DA:O sold more, then DA2 starts to plummet like a bird encased in cement.

When you try to appeal to action gamers, and CoD gamers as well as trying to appeal to the RPG crowd this is what happened because Bioware failed at all three.
