Nine 0s so far on metacritic for TW2.

All 9 gave DA2 a 10

:D

I get that people enjoy DA2, I really do. But why can't they enjoy both games at the same time? Is that really such a hard thing to do?

Sorry, I was confused...what thread? Is there a BW thread with the same? I do admire them for it then. I just think it's silly. I would think the same thing if the shoe were on the other foot and TW2 fans  panning DA2 and giving TW2 a 10 while panning DA2. It smacks of desperation.

Does DA2 deserve a 0? No. But it doesn't deserve a 10 either. TW2? Dunno, hubby just started playing and I will get to put it on my computer when he gets his new one and I get his hand me down. My PC won't play TW2 well at all. But on hubby's old one? It is breath takingly beautiful. Combat is difficult, but the finishing moves are awesome in the real definiton of that word. And there is a learning curve, this isn't a game that will hold your hand at all. It punishes, but it also rewards in equal fashion (so far). In otherwords, it's fair to you as a player in terms of consequences. Again, so far.

While I like the TW2's style, I like BioWare's style too. I love them both for different reasons.

Hey xkg...graph format for those numbers you gave?

So xkg...from your figures it seems we can postulate that DAO is indeed selling more than, at week 10, than DA2? If I'm reading that correctly.

That's probable, but there's two other factors.

1) The chart goes down each each. All games tend to sell less each week, even if it's a really small amount.

2) The averages are for the entire sales period. But the numbers for the last x weeks are probably lower than when we start. DA:O could be averaging around 7000, for instance these current weeks.

Still, this is sort of troubling for the franchise.

Thanks Yoko. I prefer when the number smart people help me. I am not a math person. I was just guessing so  wanted a little clarification.

@Ali...I know! I hate that word too. But when the exact same people give TW2 a 0 then go on DA2 and give it a ten, touting DA2 and panning TW2 at the same time? They deserve the name.

Hmmm it is not quite like that. Second half of those 68 weeks DAO is doing better.
You can clearly see that on this chart from VGChartz.

My fiancee and I have come to this conclusion: 9 out of 10. Unlike DA2, the game doesn't hold your hand(like you mentioned), the world feels so alive(and not just a quest hub like Kirkwall), there are actual consequences to the choices you make, it looks absolutely gorgeus, handles mature themes like incest, nudity, and war much better than DA2 does. I personally think it's a top contender for GOTY.

@xkg  Thanks! You know I need charts, for the math stupid like me.  CLOWN SMASH!!! Yeah, that was my left brain talking about the numbers. ROFL!

@Ali ,yeah a GOTY contender...right out the gate. It is a WOW game. Only possible real competition, I think, is Skyrim and Portal2. And while I love Portal 2 (friend let me play)...hmmm.

So far every 0 I've seen given on The Witcher 2 on Metacritic gave Dragon Age 2 a 10. Not only that, it's the ONLY TWO GAMES reviewed on their accounts.

The desperation to hijack the game score is getting pretty amusing at this point. And it's still 9.1 overall.

I've noticed this as well, I still think it's funny that the game is above 9 overall, even with the 0s. It's obvious that the negative views so far are a simple spiteful reaction to the fact that DA2 got a kicking, so they are acting like someone has kicked their favorite pet down the stairs, even if, to a certain extent, it deserved it. Although I don't think it was a 0-2 it was painfully mediocre at best and downright awful in other parts, maybe rated a bit better depending on one's emphasis on certain aspects or slightly worse than my own view.

Most people do enjoy both games.

That, however, doesn't mean that there aren't idiots on both sides who are trying to start flame wars for their own amusement.

It happened prior to release of DA2 when you had topics that made fun of DA2's graphics and claimed Witcher 2 would "pwn all" and who gave DA2 0/10 scores on Metacritic and called it a "worst peiece of crap ever made".

Therefore I'm not surprised the same thing is happening now to TW2.

Personally, I don't bother with Metacritic, nor do I care what others think about either DA2 or TW2. I'm already having having fun with the former and am planning to get the later and enjoy it.

Oh it just makes me laugh. It happens every game. I tend to take the first reviews as grains of salt. I will wait a week or two for people who have played it through. People like my hubby, who will no doubt be playing this weekend until 3am.ROFL!

I wish Metacritic had an 'adjusted' user score in addition to the standard one, which simply removed all reviews that gave a 0 or a 10.

Or that meta would actually police some of those. It is obvious which ones gave them out of a real sense of disappointment and anger (while not objective critics in any sense, they are what people felt) and the ones that are just trolls.

True, you're right, it does pick up.

But it looks like the "bump" takes place after week 51.  Which happens to conincide with the 2010 holiday season, and along with price reductions and purchases from late-comers who anticipate DA2.

Indeed.  It could be quite a tricky thing to police in practice however.  There are a good deal of 'troll' reviews which simply give the game 10/10 or 0/10 with pitiful justifications - these are generally quite obvious.  What is much harder to adjust for are people who played Dragon Age 2, and were disappointed, which made them emotional, and resulted in their metacritic review being 4/10 or similar, as opposed to where the game should have probably scored (higher than 4).

But, user reviews are meant to have an element  of subjectiveness - arguably one would be destroying their integrity if they attempted to remove the subjective factors.  I would take the Dragon Age 2 average user score of 4.3 as a weighted emotional reaction to the game - not so much a logical and objective appraisal of its pros and cons.  If you look at things in this manner, the 4.3 makes a good deal of sense.

*Smacks self* DOH! YES!!! ME3! I would go ME3 before Skyrim. My bad. Sorry ME franchise!

I would only be able to guage your judgment on this if you actually played the ME series. Didn't you say you barely played ME2, because you want to get through ME1 first (don't know how far you progressed either way)?

Have you played any of the TES games?

I played both MEs thoroughly (ME1 like 8 times, and ME2 5 times) and I played Daggerfall though Oblivion (I played TES1, Arena, but didn't care for it) and really liked them, especially Morrowind. Oblivion wasn't that great because it didn't have the RPG elements as a whole iwant, but for stats and character bullds, it was awesome. I am looking forward to ME3, but it is not an automatic purchase anymore (DA2 took care of that for me). But Bethesda pretty much kept with the TES franchise style throughout, whereas ME1 to ME2 was a pretty different experience for me. If ME3 turns back the clock using ME1 elements, especially in role-playing, it, for me anyway, will be a great game. I expect Skyrim to be another in the story of what's happening in another of one of the provinces in Tamriel. That said, my expectations are about the same for both franchises, and I look forward to them of both.

As an aside, since Bethesda has kept the series theme pretty consistent, Skyrim will be an automatic purchase/pre-order for me.

I haven't played myself. But my computer and hubby's sit side by side. I found myself watching him play ME and ME2. It was entertaining just watching.  It looks like a really good series. So, I almost feel like I played myself, though I really just watched and backseat played..."honey pick such and such option, please..." ROFL!  Sometimes he would so I could see what happened (like shepard pushing <spoiler> out of a <spoiler>.

Yeah, sad to say it isn't an automatic purchase for hubby either. He is going to wait. Skyrim is another I think he is going to get automatically though.

I can understand your preference for ME over Skyrim, since you've never experienced any of the previous TES games (unless I am misunderstanding you, I sense you have never played and of TES). In reality, you don't need to play any of the previous TES games to make Skyrim understandable really. For ME3 though, is a must to have played the previous games.. Oblivion may be the most important, only if the King's offspring or some effect of Cyrodiil is to be carried over.

Then people would simply give it 1 and 9.

It would probably require too much effort and too many employees but I think they should implement a system to confirm/deny the reviews (and be very strict and selective about it) instead of automatically taking them into account.
