You have to complete both of their specific background quests first, before going to Denirim. Also, you have to have them both like you of course.

I'm kind've surprised, and kind've not. On the one hand it does follow a predictable pattern of taking away the 'more important' character from female PCs, but on the other hand everyone was led to believe that this time might be different. Obviously they never came out and said it, but they clearly wanted everybody to believe that this time they might finally be responding to all the complaints in the past, like the tons of people who were upset that they took out the Ashley-FemShep romance from Mass Effect (at least you could watch part of it on Youtube anyway).

Its not that they took out Morrigan 'instead of' Leliana that I don't like, its that they took either one away, although the fact that they once again took away the 'more important' character does make it extra frustrating. Why take away our choice? Why consistently leave us with only the 'less important' character? It obviously doesn't make the game 'more' fun to take half our choices away, only less fun. I hope our friends in the modding community were anticipating something like this, and can get a mod done ASAP to correct this grave injustice. Again, its nothing against Leliana, she and Morrigan both seem great, and I could totally go either way if given a choice, I just would like there to actually BE a choice.

I agree with the frustration that the "important" female characters of past games were kind of "blocked" if you played as a woman -- though I'm much more interested in proper friendship paths rather than "romance" (especially with Bastila, damn I really wanted to have conversations showing and enjoying our friendship, but she went dead silent after we got to that point :(), and DA promises to actually give us those for the first time. Mind, I really dislike what I've seen about Morrigan so far, so this time around I likely won't care about the "important" female NPC.

What I don't get is the complaints about "choice". Of course there is a choice: go for the availble person or don't. "Romance" thankfully isn't the end-all, be-all of this game and IMO it'd be just plain odd if every "romanceable" party member swung both ways, or if every party member but the dog was humpable. For the next Bioware game, I'd much rather see one truly, exclusively homosexual character rather than half a dozen bisexuals. I do understand that if you're really into the "romance" thing (which I'm not, so I'm admittedly biased) it's frustrating to see the straight guys get more options than everyone else put together, though. But DA is still a step forward.

The only complaint I'd have about the "romanceables" is if they feel annoyingly stereotypical -- which Zevran does to an extent as M/M, but Leliana much less so as F/F. And frankly many hetero-options in the Bioware games are at least as sterotypical.

well after seeing the site with the romance options and companions i must say i think i will only romance leliana...male or female pc(eventually i will play with all genders/classes/races)

i just don't see myself killing Flemeth to get to Morrigan.Well anyway the game seems to go the way..u can't have all the companions stay with u.

I have to admit, I am a bit disappointed by this news. A bit. I preferred Morrigan to Leliana, because she seemed the more interesting character and complemented mine more mechanically. The preference isn't so strong that this kills any possible enjoyment I might derive from the romance though. However, I may not choose her first now unless she really impresses me.

Still, I'm glad we finally know who it is, and I'll be interested to see where that plot thread ends once the game is over.

Edit: Wrote complimented when I meant to write complemented. :P

Ashley was not more important than Liara. Liara is the 'default' romance for 'default' VanderShep.

I don't understand how one determines which character is more important. Is it because the are used in promotions? In an RPG player use determines importance. I can completely ignore characters even if they are on the box if I don't like them. I don't think lesbian romances are short-shrifted because they get the crazy red-head bard and not the evil sorceress.

I knew it would be Leliana. I just didn't think the 'Morrigan using sex as a weapon' was a good enough point. And, since Homosexuals only get one option, I think they would let you romance someone who is more likely to actually love you.

No.  Crazy red-head bard >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> evil sorceress anyday.

This would be nice, yes.

We've never had a BioWare love interest that wasn't able to love you. If it can happen with Viconia, then I'm sure a canabalistic necromancer who's spent the last five hundred years enslaving snow elves might show a tender, loving side if they became a designated love interest.

BioWare rep requested removal. Apparently, it's from a hacked version of the Prima walkthrough, so copyrighted material. BioWare/EA would want to protect that sort of business relationship not to mention expecting members to meet the Terms of Service at the bottom of all these pages.

I know no more than that.

EDIT:  beaten by Kevin!  I'll clarify my post.

I noticed in another thread Kevin Lynch called it a "hacked" site.  No one hacked anything (on this site, anyway), they just guessed the direct URLs to pages that were not password protected.

The Prima site *should* be password protected, and it's not our fault that it isn't, but if Bioware is getting royalties on sales of the guide, it makes sense that they wouldn't want the links posted here.

Yeah, that's the term the BioWare rep used, so I used it (as I said, I know not the details). Regardless, as you said, it's protected material and we (BioWare/EA) can't condone posting links to it.

I was expecting Morrigan, I was going to start off as a beautiful white-haired mage and woo morrigan but **** happens.

Now I'll be starting as a red haired "twin sister"(noble/warrior) and chasing after Leliana.

Leliana voice sounds sweet and annoying at the same time, her religious background will probably annoy me as well.(Dark side here I come. Muwahahaha)

Me too, I had plans for Morrigan . . . but they were thwarted, though I'm happy they were :)
I like Leliana way better than Morrigan.  I always wanted it to be her, but resigned myself to the fact that it would be Morrigan instead.

I actually lilke her voice!  I'ts a French/British mish-mash.  She is religious but hopefully not a zealot.  The Chantry seems pretty laid-back as far as religions go (except if you are a mage).  The background lore on Andraste is pretty cool as well.

I adore fictional psychotic chicks. The exact amount of 'crazy' in 'Leliana' is yet to be determined, but I'm optimistic.
