Sunnie's DA2 Custom Items 1
04/28/2011
v1: Original release
v2: Fixes incorrect type for Arishok Replicas

4/29/2011
v3: Fixes original items on Lirene for act 2 and 3.

4/30/2011
v4: Had 2 of the same Carta's hand daggers, fixed. Act 3 Lirene somehow got corrupted, fixed.

5/10/2011
v4.1: yet another attempt to fix Lirene in act 3, should be finally fixed now.

This pack adds 120ish stand alone items to DA2.
Many of these items appeared in my earlier item packs as replacers, and there are new items.
(Note: Due to the sheer number of items, I will not be adding pics of items or stats, you can see them in-game.)

These items are all found in Bodahn's store in Act1, and Lirene's store (Fereldan Imports) in acts 2 and 3, and are all free.

Install: Unpack and drop the sunnie_cust_items_1.erf and Sunnie_ Icons.erf into your override folder (Documents\\BioWare\\Dragon Age 2\\packages\\core\\override).

Uninstall: Remove sunnie_cust_items_1.erf from override. Note: If you have already obtained any of these custom items from either of the merchants, you must keep the Sunnie_ Icons.erf fill or you will not have any icons for them.

Incompatibilities: Any other mod that modifies Bodahn's Store in Act 1 or Lirene's Store in Act 2/3.

>>>>>NOTE<<<<<: Due to the way the game data is cooked into the save game files, this mod will NOT add items to merchants in the MIDDLE of an act (an act you already started). You must "START" an act with this mod installed in order to see the new items on the merchants in that act.

The list of items in this pack is as follows:

Fantastic Sunnie many thanks.

If we're in the middle of an act when we install this can we use vaddi's add item utility to add items?

Yes and no; unfortunately, Vaddi does not scan the overrides folder at this time. However, it is possible to edit Vaddi's source file to "know" about custom items.

Ya, until Gib (aka:Thought Process) updates Vaddi, I won't be releasing stand alone items that are called with it. Not sure if he is even interested in DA2 stuff anymore, he has been rather absent around here for a couple weeks.

Sunnie, I may pick your brain later on regarding custom icons if you're willing. I've been wanting to replace a few ability icons, but so far the only result I've had with custom .dds files is a gray box in-game.

You are probabbly saving them as an incorrect version. What are you using to edit/save dds files with?

Sunnie, how will this interact with your previous replacer mods?

These are stand alone. You can drop a good portion of the replacers, but be careful not to drop the replacers that other mods depend on, like the starting champ gear and better weapons, and companion weapons.

@Sunnie: "DDS Converter 2" to convert them to .psds. Edited in Photoshop, saved as a .psd with alpha channel, and converted back to .dds. The program had several different options for saving as a .dds; tried a few different ones without any luck.

@Noctaris: where in your file hierarchy are you saving the icons? Icons are stored at the very top, along with 2DAs, tints, .utis, and the like.

Also, don't input the file extension when you're setting the icon in the .uti. I can't remember if I found that the extension made it stop working, but I do know that I don't include it in any of my items.

And, if you have Photoshop, then you should use Nvidia's .DDS plugin. And don't save icons with an alpha channel.

I've been wanting to change ability icons, not items, so I had them packed in an .erf that'd be named something like gui_mynewicon.erf

BioWare's default ability icons do have an alpha channel built in, corresponding to whatever shape they are: circle, diamond, etc.

Oh... I assumed you were doing items since this is a Sunnie item thread XD

In that case, I don't know, because I don't know how ability icons are assigned. Sorry D:

Thanks for the reply anyway : )

Figured it out. Apparently wasn't using the correct conversion settings; used a converter with fewer options, and it just worked.

It doesn't seem possible to override existing icons; rather, you need to create a new filename and reassign an ability's icon name in abi_base.

Ok, it might be better if you get the DDS plugin for photoshop from NVidia. You can get it here. I have used this from CS2 through CS5.

Did you try dropping the replacement icons in the patch folder?

Indeed. Tried as .erf named gui and as an .erf with the name of the icon. No good either way. You would think it'd be possible to override the existing icons, somehow.

Sorry that I've sidetracked your thread. At least it's staying bumped heh.

No need to apologize, threads go sideways all the time.

I'll take a look at the ability icons and see what I can find out.

Edit: Yep, icon's won't override, very odd.
