I was just wondering what reason Varric had to lie to Cassie about the Cahmpions story. Was he trying to just lie his way out although he must've known that she had solid info on the Champion to bring him for questioning instead of the other companions. Was just wondering

I suspect it was to protect the Champion, or any of the companions. Exaggerating would throw Cassandra off-track, or, as seems to be evident as the Acts progress, allow Varric to get under her skin a bit and discover what she really may be after. His hyperbole is bait, as well as his natural bardic inclination.

Perhaps she isn't to question him, only the first to see through his bull**** the legend.
Otherwise, presumably to test the waters and see how much she knew already.

As he tells Hawke, good stories are their own reward. He's a bull****ter.
I love that little man.

Varric exaggerates to Cassandra because he exaggerates to everyone.
