 *ME3 SPOILERS*

These are what I see as the main factions that you may be able to gain support from in ME3:

-Systems Alliance
-Cerberus (we don't yet know if they are an enemy of all Shepards or just paragon ones)
-Council Races (Turians, Asari, Salarians, Spectres)
-Non-Council Races (Elcor, Hanar, Volus)
-Terminus Systems (Omega, Batarians, Vorcha)
-Quarians
-Geth
-Krogan
-Rachni
-Mercenary Groups (Blue Suns, Blood Pack, Eclipse - none of these seem that powerful, but I thought I'd add them anyway)

At least one source has said we will be faced with choices akin to the VS but on a galactic scale so for the sake of this thread the following are considered mutually exclusive:

-Systems Alliance & Cerberus
-Quarians & Geth (unless the Geth are controlled via Project Overlord or other methods)
-Rachni & Krogan (unless the Krogan are cured of the Genophage)

While neutral options may be available in the game I imagine these will be the hardest conflicts to resolve. And while the galaxy is under attack, some sources have said that it is on the verge of civil war. It would seem silly given impending doom, but I'm going to assume there is internal conflict to make things interesting. Every faction will probably have a problem fighting alongside at least one other faction, but I'm sure many can put aside their differences.

So, with all that in mind which 3 factions do you want on your side above all others? You don't just have to choose from the mutually exclusive pairs.

For me, it would be the Geth, the Alliance and the Council Races.

Doing countless playthrougs with Shepards who are paragons, renegades, paragades, renegons and everything in between has rendered me incapable of deciding which one is the "real" Shepard for me and what I really support.

I'm doing a paragon playthrough for ME3 first, so I would have to go with: the Alliance and the Council races. It all comes down to the fact that Garrus is my paragon Shepard's BFF, Liara the only love of his life, and Anderson and Hackett are his boys as well. If I absolutely had to pick a third faction off your list, it would be the rachni because of the way they see everything as music. Having aliens like that around would sound awesome, and their unique skills will also come handy in

My renegade Shepard would be loyal only to Cerberus. I will get geth slaves by supporting Project Overlord and giving Legion to them for experiments. If necessary, I'm willing to collaborate with Admiral Xen to make the geth obedient again. I'll also use indoctrination technology from the Collector Base to subdue the rachni (if that is available). The Council is run by humans anyway, and they will see the wisdom in Cerberus bowing down to my man TIM.

Damn, that Shepard sounds cold. Also, I'll change the OP so the Geth and Quarians aren't mutually exclusive if the Geth can be controlled via Overlord or the Qurians.

My Rachni and Geth will blot out the stars!

...along with a couple other races mingled in there somewhere I'm sure.

Hm. Well, the Mass Effect Wikia claims that a SINGLE Geth fleet has 5000-10000 ships in it.

It makes me wonder how large all their fleets combined are. XD

The Quarians and Cerberus aren't on the best of terms so I hope you have a persuasive Shepard!

That attack wasn't personal, Cerberus just wanted Gillian. Not to mention that the Quarians kind of brought it on themselves by harbouring her. Anyway, I'd be dissappointed if they couldn't let go of a petty grudge long enough to defeat the Reapers.

Ideally I'd want an Alliance dominated by Cerberus instead of moderates like Anderson, but you never had that as an option.

I imagine most of the conflicting sides will be able to put aside their differences, but they may not nexessarily trust each other which could cause problems.

Also, I haven't read the books so I don't know a lot about the Cerberus attack on the Migrant Fleet - are they worth reading?

The Alliance is technically a Council Race so I guess that counts as 3...

I kinda hope we can help the Batarians, that would be interesting.

But assuming we don't, I'll go with:
Krogan
Council Races (mostly Turians though)
Alliance

I'd like the Geth and Quarians to co-exist, but if that's not an option I first have to see a "who attacks first"-sorta thing.

They're quite good. They give you a lot of background information on characters you'd otherwise miss.

INB4 ExtremeOne Says: "CERBERUS! CERBERUS! ALLIANCE DIE! CERBERUAAAAHHHH!"

On topic: I don't know which I'd choose for the Rachni/Krogan or the Quarian/Geth. I assume I'll make my choice spur of the moment when I'm playing. Those are two really hard choices.

I do know I'd go with the Alliance, though.

I may try and find them before mass effect 3 then. Particularly if they focus on the Quarians in one of them as that'd probably help me decide bwteen supporting them or the Geth.

Thing is, for me, if there isn't a co-existence option, I'm actually going to have trouble siding against the geh, ever. If Legion's information is anything to go by, they don't even live on Rannoch and basically just want to be left alone. That and, y'know, the Quarians tried to kill them all and have apparently continually tried to for the last few hundred years.

If there is no "kumbaya" option available...

The first two are easy. I would side with the council species and the geth, no hesitation. Between the krogan and the rachni, however...that isn't as easy to answer. I will need to see the circumstances unfold in ME3, but I do hope that isn't a choice I will have to make.

I'm not sure at this point who I'll back, but I have a feeling ME3 will involve lots of coin-flipping and sobbing quietly in a corner.
