So Bioware published this new item pack and I had a discussion with my friend that I could design better looking sets than Bioware boys and girls could.

Here is a pic that I made pretty fast.

Say either YES or NO if its better than what Bioware made. I bet one cookie for mine being better :D So Im asking your help here dear people. YES or NO?

EDIT 2

What is he supposed to be, a Thundercat? Liono perhaps? it does look cool though.

OH, and to answer your question, uyes it does look far better, especially the Helmet, and the claws and paws.

THUNDERCATS HO!

Yeah, my first thought too. Pretty good pencil skills though.

Too ostentatious for my tastes (not saying BioWare's version is any better in this regard, that is). I typically prefer more down-to-earth armor and weapons, and both games were rather hit-or-miss here.

Don't really like it, but thats only from personal preference and I understand why people would like it. The reason I don't like it is because I don't really like Ornate style and prefer much more simple looking armour

I'd say its much better. I appreciate how Ornate it is, because let's face it, it's from Orlais, and I'm pretty sure the words "Practical", "sensible" and "unpretentious" have never been spoken there. I would love to see what you could do for Rogue and Mage gear.

Not just me. All of Cinematic Design.

But on a more serious and constructive note - one thing to bear in mind is that, while it may look really neat as a 2D drawing, it has to support and conform to numerous restrictions when in-engine. Namely:

-No oversized pauldrons/spaulders, as we use a fair amount of over-the-shoulder cameras
-Animations cannot allow bits and pieces of the armour to clilp into itself
-Things such as capes, tabards, that sort of thing can be problematic for much the same reason

I sometimes imagine that the artists must hate me when they put their heart and soul into a piece of equipment and I send back a bug saying 'the shoulders are too big, make them smaller'.

That being said, they do an amazing job bringing items from concept to in-game without significant changes, mainly because they know and understand these restrictions.

yes, but as a warrior. But like Mr. Epler said it is great as a 2D drawing, but it would have to be toned down and/or modified to be usable in the game.

Also, I'm glad other people thought Thundercats. I miss that show.

...is that a rule, or more of what you might call a guideline;)

Because (for example) right in the opening cutscene, the shoulder pad of the armor worn by the woman interrogating Varric pretty obviously clips through the brestplate.

A matter of degree, really. It does happen, of course, and that's certainly less than ideal - but there's a difference between minor clipping and major clipping. The latter happens when you have massive pauldrons that are attached to the wrong bone, for example. As well, it's more of an issue when it happens on the player, as we can't be sure exactly what animations will be playing on the PC, since they're one constant throughout the game. And they can change armour.

like many of the elements, wouldlike to see and adjusted to BioWare restrictions, actually.

and I am sure you can do a better Rogue set than what is presented.

the mage set though does wreak of awesome sauce.

That is a beautiful design. (not comparing)
Adjustments per Mr. Epler's requirements wouldn't really detract from the aesthetic so much, either. Nice work.

Mr. Epler, since you're reading this thread, I have a question for you. All I need to be content is either a "yes" or a "no". Will there be story DLC in the future? I just want to know if there will be. Details aren't important right now.

It would kind of cool to see Juggernaught armor. Remember CEP for NWN1, you could make it. Downside though, people ran around screaming "I'M THE JUGGERNAUGHT, B!TCH!!"

Seriuosly, there has to be a better way to handle clipping, I just notice bioware games have a worse issue with it than other games. And of course you should add in some bowstrings and sheaths for swords ;)

Nah. I thought the official version was a bit OTT for my tastes and that one is even more so. Nice drawing though! Also; Don't make cinematic design teams cry, it doesn't quite cause a hurricane on the other side of the world but it does cause a small raincloud to form over a random person in Britain's head. DA2's release has almost caused a national epidemic and apparently there is a big event tomorrow.

...Wait, get a raincloud to form above the Royals heads and I will personally buy you a crate of cookies (sorry John).

For some reason the phrase "your pauldrons make cinematic design cry" has had me laughing for the last five minutes, only on the bsn will you hear such phrases uttered.

Armour of the weeping Cindes for the next dlc.

Oh and the drawing rocked.

It's pretty good but a little over the top for my tastes.

I noticed DA2 took some pages from the Japanese game art book.

Oh, and I think the drawing looks better than the in-game armor set. Quite a bit so. Whether it would hold up once you ironed out the technical issues necessary to make it a 3D model is another matter - but I suppose that's a "Yes". :)
