Beautiful design but a bit big for my personal tastes. It pretty much goes with the "normal" size for biowares heavy armour pauldrons though which is pretty darn big. :) I have no idea why they always do them so big, but there is likely a reason. Now maybe ONE shoulder but i find the size for biowares armour bordering on the silly. just my opinion but apologies, I digress.

The design itself is very ornate and interesting as a design for a ceremonial armour. Well done!

edit: that is the belt for sure - fashion that has faces on belts lol , but at least seb has only one big shoulder really :D that jacket style was used as a base for more than that though.

No. It's the artistic equivalent of fanfic. It's just a copy, slightly upgraded, of the armor that Sebastian Vael wears all the time. So, no, you can't design a better armor set than the BioWare team could. You copied their work. Kudos on having no one else notice for this long, though.

Nice catch with the similarities.

I don’t care for the fan-drawn armor. The cat paws creep me out.

I don't know about you guys, but I get clipping CONSTANTLY during cutscenes. I mean, the Dwarves that use the generic "Bodahn" shirt don't actually have necks that connect with their collars, leaving huge tears whenever they turn their heads, and Merrill's neck is constantly clipping through the chainmail collar on her clothing. And of course the shoulder of that act III warrior armor with that big red shoulder piece and the ring/straps on the chest clip right through any two-hander you equip to Hawke's back.

Is that for all engines or just DA2's? I ask because I noticed some pieces of armor clips into other pieces in Mass Effect. The animations seemed fine for those, but out of curiosity I just wanted to know for future reference.

I've noticed bad clipping more in bioware games then others. Not saying other games don't have some clipping problems, I just notice it a lot more in bioware games.

I was going to make the sword arm to have spaulder and the shield arm not but I got lazy and just rushed this pic :D
And yes, the shoulders did come too big even for my taste but I liked it so I kept them :)
The jacket is supposed to be more frilly and FLUFFY than Sebastians has :D

Not just me. All of Cinematic Design.

But on a more serious and constructive note - one thing to bear in mind is that, while it may look really neat as a 2D drawing, it has to support and conform to numerous restrictions when in-engine. Namely:

-No oversized pauldrons/spaulders, as we use a fair amount of over-the-shoulder cameras
-Animations cannot allow bits and pieces of the armour to clilp into itself
-Things such as capes, tabards, that sort of thing can be problematic for much the same reason

I sometimes imagine that the artists must hate me when they put their heart and soul into a piece of equipment and I send back a bug saying 'the shoulders are too big, make them smaller'.

That being said, they do an amazing job bringing items from concept to in-game without significant changes, mainly because they know and understand these restrictions.

To answer this let me make a run down on the design idea.

-Shoulders became too big, yes, but that is easy to fix :D Think of champion warrior armor design, only with the spikes replaced with lions head.
-Clipping occurs on many occasions and you know it ;)
-Cape/tabard uses same system as Meredith armor, only with fur lining and Wardens armor

Nice design. I hate to say, but many modders(not all) seem to design much better looking gear then whats in the original games. They likely have lots more time to do it, but eventually be it DAO, Fallout or Oblivion all my characters wear modded gear on the PC versions.

Even though John Epler said the OP's design wouldn't work it actually looks kind of cool lol, I can imagine there being a long dead king of Orlais who was crazy when he was alive and he has been possessed by a demon or maybe a spirit or something.

Your design looks awesome. Even if you used Sebastian's Armor as base, your design looks good. I wouldnt say that you could the cinematics team but you can compete with them.

Prefer realistic looking armour. I like years of dirt, grime, and weapon blows marking my armour. Can't stand it when my toons looking like trashed up drag queens doing Shakespeare.

i don't think anybody has ever perfected armor from clipping into itself or the character clipping through it, what devs do is just simplify clothing so much that there's plenty of room to prevent obvious clipping and simplicity enough that clothing won't clip through other clothing, or they just limit animations so much like Fallout/Oblivion, or you have animators design animations set in stone that the art team can then work around easily

i do wish Bioware would one day at least animate hands better and act of picking up/exchanging objects

*snip*

Yeah, well... Sebastian's armor is goofy.  So, fail all around.

I was thinking that would be pretty cool lannister armor in the song of ice and fire.  Would have to be gold and red though.  change some of the griffons to lions and it would be excellent.

A knight wearing that would get laughed off the tournament ground.  This is more like it (though Kingsguard armor).

There is just too much going on your armor. If it was trimmed back to look more like a warrior version Sebastian's armor, it would be better IMO. I prefer Bioware's.

I am sure the modders are already hacking into the texture files and removing the extra components.

I prefer yours, except for the helm. I prefer BioWare's helm. I think it's the most amazing helm since... well, practically ever.
