It's not a female, it's an immature male serving as an ambassador for the females.Urdnot Orrad wrote...
You do get to see a female krogan in ME2. Not much different from the males. I'd imagine it's mostly the same with the other races.

You don't see a female Krogan. If you meant the one from the female camp, that was a prepubescent male who hadn't done the rite not a female. Any female that went into the male camp would be a huge target and cause allot of fights. The only female you come across is the dead one covered by a sheet.Urdnot Orrad wrote...

You sure? I thought there was an ambassador, one you can talk to, but there's one that you can't that has a much... quieter, raspier voice than krogan are known to have, that tells you that you're "forbidden to interact with a female" or something like that.
EDIT: Huh... where do you hear that they're a pre-pubescent male?

His voice is higher because he hasn't hit puberty yet.Urdnot Orrad wrote...

That and not every krogan has to sound like Worf.

And thus the galaxy's finest women were brought to him.
And thus he died of scale itch in three months time.

Grunt wasn't at puberty either, technically, otherwise there would be no need for the rite, but I concede the point.

From the "Creating Garrus" video.
So, most likely, no females of any kind for ME3.

Sometimes I think they're thinking about this too hard.
Honestly, roll a die. Upscale or downscale character size 10-20%. Pick slightly variant skintones if you want, or change the patterning a little. Change the voice. It's good enough, really it is.
There are a lot of animals you can't tell apart from a distance. Why should all aliens be immediately visually distinguishable by gender.

It is also mentioned in the GI videos that aside from the creative aspect of "how do you create a female, add lipstick and boobs?" limitations, there is also a problem that if a species is too inhuman players can't relate to them, which is why the Asari have an exact human face, and there are also technical difficulties- for example the animation in ME is done by motion-capturing and it would be impossible to animate a species which doesn't have a human skeleton in the same way.
All that in mind, they prefer to keep it from turning cheesy and remain on the same quality standard which sometimes requires some sacrifices to be made. They also said that they would all like to add more species to the universe if it's possible.

Plus he said all concepts of the female aliens were kind of ridiculous looking.
Edit: Dammit he beat me to it.
