I almost always take the collector particle gun. A lot of heavy weapons don't have the range, accuracy or take too long to get going. The Cain isn't completely useless, I quite like it in that husk/scion encounter with the biotic barrier. That's actually significantly more difficult than the end boss and the cain is pretty good there. The flamethrower is also good at stripping husks armour. You don't even really need heavy weapons though, squadmate choice has a much bigger effect on how difficult it is.
I had been thinking most likely the Collector Beam...but having never done the Insanity run before, I thought I had should ask first....game most oft played on Veteran, so big jump....Thank you Malanek.
Oh, I do love the Cain, its just not charged enough at this point, I used HW's more often than I usually do with my Insanity run...Cain isn't going to fire off for me so soon.
I have now tried the Flamethrower...as a predominatley ranged combatent, I kinda suck at CQC and melee, only do it when forced...I tried out the Flamethrower on the IFF Mission and yes it stripped the Husks fast, but they swarmed me too easily...I kinda failed with the Flamethrower....thank god for Mordin and Grunt :-).
Which squad mates do you recommend for the Reaper? I usually take Legion and Garrus and set them both to snipe...Legion and I both packing the Widow...I play an Infiltrator....Are those two still a good team for the Reaper on Insanity?

You don't have enough juice for a cain shot? I usually fire 2 of them at the human reaper. I'd go with the particle gun. Normally I hate that thing, but heck it will dish out as much damage as the cain given the same ammo amount, but it is spread out over a much longer period. But hey the reaper never really attacks you, so you will have the time to unload whatever ammo you have in that gun.
Two shots from the Cain in one hit? Wow!....you really know how to use that HW...I envy you....that would be very nice.
Yep, I'm not a fan of the Paricle Beam either, taking down the Reaper is the only time I ever use it in a game....for me usually Arc Gun followed by Avalanche all the way...but I do know neither of my two favorites cut it with the Reaper...have tried them on Veteran.
Thank you Ahglock.

If you're worried that you don't have enough ammo for the Cain you get a full HW ammo refill at the beginning of the SM and another after The Long Walk. I always take the Cain and use it on the Scion/Husks and then on the Human Reaper.

Ahh...the forums cancelled my already written post.
In short...I don't really know how valuable snipers are, I don't really notice the difference in various companions weapon damages. I more prefer them for their powers. If you do want a sniper I would say Thane is a better choice, warp and throw are both very useful in that fight. Any companion with Warp is good enough and Samara is good for any class other than the Adept. Mordin isn't bad either. But hey, just go with what you like, you learn more from your own choices.

Thank you Yuckygeo....I didn't realize that, I have been trying to remember if there were HW refills on the SM, usually i remember where they are...maybe I haven't spotted them on the SM...will try the Cain and look around more for the refills....I figure if I still can't juice it quite enough, can either reload to the beginning (save a save for that possibility) or try to forgo HW dependancy at that moment.
Thanks for the heads up.

Yep, I have noticed, I have got to order the squad to shoot at the Reaper...I haven't worked out if Garrus listens, but have noted damage to the Reaper that only a well placed Widow shot can give...so Legion takes a few shots for me...but then again as a usually Veteran player, I have been able to afford to basically ignore the Collectors and letting the Reaper itself fry them....I am expecting this time to be somewhat different. :-)
Thane and Samara huh...I use Thane on other missions a lot, I like his combat style, I have never considered Samara though. Mordin, I had never used him before in my other games, but when I asked about Insanity runs, his name came up a few times, I have used him for a lot of missions on Insanity now and have learned to appreciate his talents, but he does die a lot :-(...I don't think I have learned howto position him that well.
Learning from my own choices... :-) ...I have been eating crow through this whole Insanity experience :-) ...so much for so many of my formally beloved squaddies :-) and bonus power choices for that matter :-)....this has been quite a learning curve for me :-).

Your squadmates won't even shoot at the human Reaper. Take those good against Harbinger/Collectors (Kasumi, Samara, Miranda, Thane, etc.)
Thank you MNWME....You are the second person to mention Thane and Samara...I'm thinking there's something in that :-)...though I love Kasumi and work well with her, spent a lot of time studying her for the Shadow Strikes....picking up tips for my Infiltrator...as a result, I have learned her quite well and worked out how to work her to her best advantages...the choices, the choices...:-)...thank you again MNWME...thinking, thinking :-).

What gun is he using? Guns with high clips mean they stay out of cover for longer. Also if you remain behind cover yourself quite a lot your squadmates will take more heat, conversely if you are not behind cover enemies tend to shoot at you first. If one of your squadmates is getting hit simply standing up and shooting might be enough to keep them alive and save a medigel.Golden Owl wrote...

Took me a while, but I finally got what you mean by 'high clips'...I haven't gamed a great deal until ME came along, so still catching up on the jargon...If I remember correctly, one of Mordin's is SMG, which I usually equip him with...now I can see the problem and what your saying...hmmm, I hadn't thought about that, good point, thank you....I had just been thinking, straight up, mooks are shielded on Insanity, get those shields down fast, I have been thinking too one dimensionally haven't I.
As for coming out of cover...not on their lives :-)...I spent too much time looking at a red screen as it was on this run...I tend to panic and start button mashing, leading to some very stupid, 'Oops...I shouldn't have done that... hitting that button again, as Shep bounces out from behind his cover, while he is already red screening'...gnrgnrgnr...Reload...:-(....I think I would have better luck sticking to scrounging and praying for medi-gel :-).

I don't get the trouble people have with using Cain on Arnold. Just wait till he starts charging his "Cain" and then start charging yours. 9/10 your Cain will fire first and blow his face off.
Arnold? :-)...cute :-)....
Trouble?...I'm a 'newbie' in the land of gaming :-)...never done an Insanity play on any game before...every other game I have played (thats all of two :-)....I have played 'Casual' and 'Normal')....this is a scary venture for me :-)...still learning...teething problems is all :-).

My bad, yeah Insanity is a b*tch when you're not used to it.
But what I meant is that a lot of people (not you) say that using the Cain on Arnie is difficult cause he moves around a lot. Just time your shot and the Cain's as effective on him as any other in game boss.

I have played ME2 on Veteran a 'many' number of times :-)...hooked on the ME series...that why I figured I could possibly try to tackle 'Insanity' on ME2.....other two games, I haven't been game enough or hooked enough to beef them up....ME has just really got me.
So Reaper pretty much uses the same time period to power up it's blast attack on Insanity? If so, I believe I could actually time that one nicely....have spent some good time watching and working with the Reapers warm up timing....I leave it till the last split second before I duck for cover on Veteran.
