I've played the original Mass Effect numerous times and have had a hard time going back to it. The gameplay doesn't interest me nearly as much as Mass Effect 2, especially with classes like the Adept and Vanguard. However, I'd really like to go through and have a more complete 'canon playthrough' available for Mass Effect 3. I'm on 360, so editing saves isn't really an option, and I'd like to see any missed content anyway.
What's the forum's opinion on the most fun class for someone like me? Keep in mind, I'd love to have something as intense and tactical as Mass Effect 2. I've been thinking Soldier, since I really enjoy that class in Mass Effect 2, and if I remember correctly, it's fairly similar in Mass Effect 1. Running around guns blazing could be cool, but I submit to the more expert opinions here first.
Cheers!
Most Fun class for ME1 if you're burned out on ME1

Adept, Vanguard, or Infiltrator.
EDIT: I used to love ME1, but ME2 made it pretty much unplayable for me. I'm hoping ME3 does the same for ME2.

Why were those fun for you? Infiltrator was in the back of my mind, cause, well, sniping stuff from far away is fun!

AR Adept and Singularity Vanguard because they're interactive classes built around spamming powers, especially the Shock Trooper Vanguard.
Infiltrator because it has Immunity plus tech powers.

Infiltrator or Soldier. For an Infiltrator, pick the one tech power they are missing as a bonus (Hacking I think). For a Soldier, Lift, Singularity or Warp are great.
Both do great damage with Commando and this really speeds up the game. They also have Immunity so you can't die.
I played through as an AR Adept recently. It's fun for a while, but biotics aren't needed half the time when you can gun down most enemies quicker. I have to admit though that it's a bit fun killing Benezia with Lift+Throw.

Yeah, Hacking also lowers cool-down times on all your tech powers too, if I remember correctly.

Yep, that's why I suggested taking it as a bonus power

id roll the sniper sentinel.
its an extremely awesome support character. just throw ash and wrex in the middle of a room and just protect those two with sniper fire and your tech and biotics. i think the sniper sentinel is the funnest class to play, but the singularity vangaurd is the best class to play.

If you want easy, then role with an AI hacking Infiltrator, which gives all the real good guns of a Soldier and most of the defense while adding tech powers. You get the pistol(highest dps in game), Sniper rilfe(unlimited shots without overheating with Specter X, Scramrail X, Fricionless materials X), to go with Medium armor, which is augmented by the tech upgrades to shields, and of course Immunity. On the Tech side you get all the really important skills Decryption, electronics, AI hacking, and Dampening.

Shotgun Sentinel was a lot of fun for me; wrote about it in detail after finishing my latest ME1 playthrough in another thread here. A Sniper Sentinel could be built the same way, if long range is preferred over in your face CQC.

Infidel, how can one be burned out of Mass Effect!?

Infiltrator, Vanguard or Sentinel. Sentinel wears sissy armor the whole game, but he has unlimited skills to lock opponents down.

I prefer to roll a vanguard with electronics since I like CQC. Electronics has more utility. More importantly, Singularity makes ME1 too easy, even on Insanity. Most importantly, I play my ME1 vanguards similarly to my ME2 vanguards.
As to your situation (OP), and as much as I dislike this class, your best bet would be Infiltrator. It sounds like you would still enjoy sniping your enemies. As others have stated, AI Hacking is an awesome bonus power and you get Immunity.
I wouldn't recommend Sentinels for this since Infiltrators can do more weapon damage (and there are much better bonus powers for Sentinels).

I've been thinking the same as you SonofMacPhisto, in that I'd like to go through ME and ME2 again before ME3. I don't think I have the heart to create a totally new character because I already have a definitive Shepard.
But I'm certainly thinking about recreating and replaying him from level 1 just as a trip down memory lane. With that in mind, I've settled on Infiltrator with AI hacking as a bonus power. Infiltrator was my first and favourite class but I never experienced AI hacking with him because I hadn't unlocked it before I went for the power gamer achievement.

The ME1 engineer was a surprisingly good experience on hardcore, by most considered the weakest class in that game I found it a joy to play. I picked shotgun bonus skill and went for medic specialization which is excellent to keep your squad alive and it really shines in rachni fights. Gold standard build recommendations will tell you to choose bastion over medic if you are a sentinel, but judging by how well my engineer fared, shotgun and medic could work really well for sentinel as well.

Perhaps it's fun exactly because you do NOT have Barrier or Immunity and have to think about what you're doing a bit? Just a thought.

Not quite, it's been a few months but my engineer playthrough was overall easier than my bastion sentinel, basic armor skill does matter. And my power usage with engineer was overall less compared to the sentinel. It may be to the fact my sentinel also trained sniper rifles and saw less use, while on the engineer the shotgun was heavily abused. To sum it up, it's more of the fact that the class and weapon meshed well with my playstyle rather than theorycrafting a build I think I will like the most.

Well perhaps I should play one. I am planning one last playthrough of ME1 so I have both maleShep and femShep for ME3. I was going for an infiltrator though.
What would your standard fight look like if you don't mind me asking? I'm just so used to always having Barrier/Immunity, I'm wondering if you have to play more defensive.

Standard fight was to keep them out of the fight by techmines, then focus fire on 1 target at a time by neural shock followed by shotgun blast or carnage. Medic spec allows for very quick medigel cooldowns to keep you in the fight should you be pressed on the defensive, not to mention it also revives any fallen squad member.

Right. I'll give it a go tonight. I'm still also interested in a infiltrator so we'll see. I played biotic builds to death by now so there's no way I'm doing that again.

Anyone have thoughts on Infiltrator with Assault Rifles? I really like the idea of sniping away, but having that big old gun to pull out for some run and gun is a good time, which keeps leaning me back toward Soldier.
I'm leaning away from AI Hacking because I want to keep pausing to a minimum (oh ME1, if you could only map more powers to the 360 controller!).

ARs are just fine on an infiltrator. But pistols actually have higher damage per second when you're using Marksman.

Ah... I didn't know that! Infiltrator it is, I think.

Yup, marksman Infiltrator with Specter X, scram X and Frictionless mats X, can literally fire forever at an insane rate doing some major damage by swapping between Shredder and Tungsten VII ammo.
On my Engineer I ran the Mechanic(IIRC) instead of the Medic because I never use Medi-gel later in the game, never need it with dual Medi Exos and decent armor. The Mechanic also makes the tech skills hit harder and bigger so 99% of the bad guys are standing around wondering if they will ever be able to shoot again. My engineer also rocked the Shotgun and it was a blast and a half to play. Of course Ashley and Grunt were my main squad mates and they rarely ever die once outfitted correctly.
