Does such a thing exist?  I'd love to play on an open pvp and permadeath RP server.  Not because I want grief people, but because I enjoy feeling as if my character is truly vulnerable.  It also avoids the whole issue of running into people that were killed before in pvp.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think that ALFA might be what you're looking for. It's permadeath and I believe they permit PVP (for good reason) there. I'm not sure it qualifies as a PvP server, but it's definitely an RP one.

FWIW, ALFA is not an open server. Application is required. They do permit PVP but there are also rules governing it (how, when, DM notification, etc).

Thanks for the responses. I played on ALFA for a while, but I quickly got fed up with the low population and the required DM permission to pvp. Nothing broke immersion like saying "//I'd totally try to kill you right now, but there's no DM...."

I'd like to see a server with permadeath pvp, rp, and a soft level cap at around 10. Oh, and lots of players. Too much to ask for?

If what you're looking for doesn't exist, take a shot at creating it.

Well, you could try www.seaofdragons.com if you want a heavy RP server that permits PvP (without having to ask permission).   A person dying from PvP also goes to the Fugue, so while not a perma-kill (unless the player does it himself, which has happened on numerous occasions), it does result in XP loss.   Generally, however, a courtesy raise is done, sometimes to RP post-death stuff, sometimes just because the attacker doesn't want the player to lose XP.   It's the nice thing to do, and most people offer one.

The population is rather low now, but I feel that is due more to lack of presence of the admins.  We all had to take a break due to RL for a prolonged period, and thus, development stopped for a time.   We are not back into it and expect that we can build the population back up.   I am also offering DM campaigns for those who don't want to log in and not find anyone.

You might as well check out SoD.

Oh, and right now the soft level cap is at level 10.   Eventually it will be around 15, but it will likely stop there.

I might have to check out Sea of Dragons.

I've never done any modding/building before, and I have no scripting/coding skills.  I'm guessing basic world-building isn't as difficult as developing scripts/plot/everything else, and I might have to start fiddling around in the toolset.  I'll check out the building forum.

Assuming a team of builders comes together and puts together an interesting PW and solid DMs are on regularly, what kind of interest would you have in playing on a PW that is:
1.  RP
2.  Permadeath
3.  Open PVP (with RP, ofc)
4.  Low level (say around level 10)
5.  Low magic

That's my ideal PW, where PVP is welcome, even encouraged, but carries severe consequences.  RP would be the biggest focus, but there would still be rich NPC quests/interactions.  For the PVP aspect to remain somewhat balanced, it'd have to be low level.  Probably dump/mod some of the classes.  A Forgotten Realms setting would probably be the most familiar...

I'm starting to get excited about this!  I'm currently deployed, so there's plenty of time to learn some basics and maybe get something going.

I'm rambling.  Do you guys think there's a fairly large interest in a PW like this in the NWN community?

If you're willing to play in a non-Forgotten Realms setting, Legacy: Dark Age of Britain might be for you. I don't currently play there, but I can safely say it's got most of the other points you specify.

Actually SOD has code from my PW, Dungeon Eternal, as such it is to some degree balanced more than the default scripts most RP pws use. Lot of it is bug fixes to spells and removal of exploits ( to really balance things requires adjusting everything ). The fact that all the characters are DM supervised should eliminate the most serious issues though.

Wow, Dark Age of Britain looks almost exactly what I'm looking for! I plan on checking it out tonight. Thanks!

Mixing PvP with permadeath is a recipe for disaster. You'll have every one at each others' throats eventually. Dark Age of Britain is pretty "hard core", though I don't think it has much of a PvP element. Hard core draws the nerds, PvP draws the psychos. They don't tend to mix well.

I'm getting back to working on the Anphillia mod soon hopefully, it has a serious PvP focus with modest losses on death. It's about the best concept to date I've seen for mixing RP with PvP, though I don't know when it'll finally be running. Two forts with a grudge, mild death losses of gold/xp, and a lot of territory between the two.

I can't see much attractiveness in spending my leisure time playing and building up a PC, only to have some knob who is trying to compensate for RL shortcomings come along and kill my PC permanently just because "he can".

For me, permadeath makes all of those cvc conflicts so much richer. Nothing gives you pause like "oh ****, I could die. For realzies." Permadeath cuts a lot of those "attack you out of boredom" moments. Also, I get a lot more attached to my characters if every victory is really earned.

If you're after an adrenaline rush put down the mouse and go outside. I almost got killed out there a couple times, true story.
