I started this thread to continue a topic from the Registered Game Discussion Board. It was Moments that felt profound in DA2 by What a Twist. This way the (slightly altered) topic can be properly addressed without fear of posting spoilers in a non-spoiler board. It's not quite the same topic, but I'd say most profound moments definitely fall under the most memorable moments category.

For me the MMM's in the game were probably...

When Ketojan commits suicide for the Qun. My mind was caught inseparable vortex of thoughts and emotions as that scene unfolded.

When Isabella finally admits to stealing the Tome of Koslun and a few minutes later abandons you. I was incensed at finding out she was the root cause of the whole Qunari conflict and barely even felt guilty, I demanded that she return it to the Arishok. When she abandoned Hawke I cut all emotional ties with her. If it hadn't been my 1st playthrough where I wanted to learn more about all the characters I would've given her away to the Arishok in a heartbeat.

The insane battle with Xebenkeck and her minions at the end of the Forbidden Knowledge questline. That was the most strategic and tactical approach I ever took to a battle through the entire course of my 1st playthrough. SO satisfying to win it.

How about you guys?

For some reason I always find the quiet moment when Hawke and his companions are on the boat to the gallows at the end of the game very memorable. It sort of feels like, after all the terrible things they've been through together, they are finally going to meet destiny, and there's no need to speak.

In addition to what's already been said above, barring the giraffe dog, both of Flemeth's scenes were incredibly memorable. The entire march up Sundermount to perform a "Dalish funeral rite", in fact, since anyone who played DA:O more or less knows what's coming....

I don't know. So far, I haven't had any moments where I walk around half in shock for about a day or two, like with the Broodmother/killing Connor/finding out how golems are made/etc.

There are moments I hate, like All That Remains. Of course you have to go through it so it was just squaresquaresquaresquaresquare for me.

I suppose if anything sank in it was

--Ketojan self-immolating, as the above poster mentions.
--Anders' large-scale temper tantrum at the end. I was really looking forward to an Anders romance and then he's all mopey and 'splodey. My rogue killed him in a heartbeat, despite their romance.

The main quests involving the qunari in Act 2, Ketojan (why couldn't we get him instead of Anders?)

And I suppose Varric's banter with any party member. Those things were pretty memorable, for me anyway.

For me, it had to be All that Remains. One of the best moments ever in a game, meetingt he Arishok in the Keep with his respect and Varric/Izzy with any party memeber banter :D

I find the exaggerated Varric portion of his personal quest in Act 2 to be both hilarious and memorable.

Most of mine are dialogues from particular moments in quests that really suck you in
- Conversation with Ketojen at the end of Shepherding Wolves.
- Conversation with Merathari & then Flemeth on Sundermount. I sit there after this thinking 'something significant happened but I'm not sure what exactly'
- Conversation with Anders in act 3 when he wants you to distract the Grand Cleric to he can plant his bomb. I am addicted to Anders & have only played through once so far where I have not romanced him. The emotional black mail & lack of trust he shows is heart breaking and real.
- The obvious one, when the Chantry goes boom. I still sit there every time thinking holy sh*t Anders

Also wtf is up with this man-giraffe-dog??? I see no man involved.

To not mention those already mentioned.

When the Arishok orders the Qunari to attack Hawke and Aveline, watching them pull back with the Arishok doing his ">:I" face was awesome.

When Isabela came back to save the day at the end of Act 2.

When Isabela was carried away at the end of Act 2. :P

The Arishok was interesting.

Isabela and Varric were gold.

Fenris was oddly fascinating.

Bethany is sweet.

Party banter gave me a few chuckles.

The rest I had to mod-in.

To be honest, I really like the bit at the end of Act 2 when Meredith 'saves' you from a Sarebaas. For all that I think that I think that the impact of the two main antagonists was somewhat fudged in the game, I have to admit that Meredith's first scene is a good one!

I agree that Ketojan's immolation scene is also very effective and everything that happens after your mother dies is really quite moving, especially if you're in a romance. Everything with Flemeth is great and I was really touched when Isabela came back with the tome at then end of Act 2 on my second playthrough - unfortunately she has failed to re-appear in either of my other two...I guess she didn't much like either of those Hawkes!

Sadly, my most memorable moments are:

Stopping the intro with a sudden "bull****!" and Varric saying "Doesn't that match the stories you've heard?"

When Varric is narrating RIGHT NEXT to Hawke.
Hawke: I hate when you do that.
Varric: Hawke said to the dwarf as an angry aside.

And for me, when Alistair was leaving.
Teegan: The Hero of Ferelden is due back in Denerim next week.
Alistair: /sigh Always so serious. He has a NAME, you know.

Flemeth's return on Sundermount was pretty epic

Sister Petrice in general - I knew I was in for a different game experience when the main act 1&2 villain was a devout, but fundamentalist priestess from Thedas' primary religion. I found her to be a very believable and relevant protagonist.

Carver: I found him to have one of the best VAs in the game as well as one of the most affecting characters. The conversation in Gamlen's house where he blames Hawke for Bethany's death and Hawke walks off with an angry "Good Talk!". Leading years later to reconciliation and Hawke's "don't make me cry in front of the others you jackass" endgame comment.

From "This is the rule I will most treasure breaking" to his vicious emotional blackmail in his Act 3 Justice quest - I found Ander's character arc to be very Joss Whedonian (and I mean that as the highest compliment to Jennifer Hepler)

Aveline's Act 2 quest in the company of Isabela was brilliant. In fact Isabela and Aveline's relationship was one of the best examples of the characters having lives beyond Hawke. I think a lot of people hated that, but it made the game much more realistic to me that Origins or ME.

The tragic end. From Champion of Kirkwall in act 2 to facilitating a near global war and leaving a wreaked Kirkwall in act 3. No game I've played has ever had such a depressing, downbeat ending. I think that was brave and very cool.

The Qunari sections were probably the most interesting scenes to me too. Particularly the Arishok, particularly when he turns on Kirkwall. I found him to be the most compelling adversary in the game.

A list will do I think.
- The Viscount holding a dead Saemus in the chantry and the short talk with him
- The death of Mother Petrice
- The Long Road
- The Arishok ordering the attack on kirkwall, and Hawke punching out one the Qunari trying to attack him, I can't help but think of Austin Powers judo chop and laugh.
- Fenris has a line when you first meet him, after the going through the mansion I think. Something like "sometimes you must turn and face the tiger."
 - Merediths intro, and pretty much all the interactions with her, few as they were:crying:.  Meredith and Orsino were two of the best characters in the entire game, I wish they had cut the first Act and put more effort into the third.
- During Merrills Act 3 quest A New Path, the fight with Audacity. The apparitions of dead elves all chiming in, along with Audacity's line if you fall for his trick and he stabs Merrill. Was very well done, made me wish Bioware would make a game where the protagonist could be a true bad guy, not just being a dick but ultimately out for the greater good.
- The entire scene with Anders speech and the destruction of the Chantry, along with Meredith declaring the Right of Annulment.

The conversation with Saarebas if you fought Arvarad in Sheparding Wolves.

Meeting up with Grey Warden Carver in Act 3 (the one time he doesn't act like a complete idiot)

Mine (in no particular order)

-Isabela returning with the tome at the end of act 2, stepping over the body of a Qunari. The romantic banter following between her and Hawke was just adorable. The look my duelist Hawke gave to the Arishok as he said 'Lets Dance' was also a great moment.

- Gaspard betraying me and cut off mid monologue by a dwarf height crossbow bolt. "What? You were going to do that, right?"

-Shortly afterwards with Leandra in my arms as I tried (and failed) to use humor to hide my pain. So well done.

-Merril telling my WittyHawke "How do you do it? Make everything better with a smile. Its like a kind of magic that doesn't get you into trouble."

-Isabela's dialogue about embroidery during Sebastian's act 2 quest.

-Isabela doing horror movie dialogue during Varric's Act 3 quest

The proudest moment of my Hawke was when the Arishok called him Basalit-An and said Isabella wasn't worthy enough for him=]

- Anders saying, "For three years, I have ached for you every night,... I can't believe that I'm not going to wake up."  Then my male-Hawke asking if Anders wanted a sandwich.

- My fem-Hawke telling Fenris, "Is that all you do, focus on the negative?" and having Fenris at first deny it, then say, "Well, yes, fair point."

- Fenris shaking off male-Hawke's hand in the slave caverns ("Do you want to talk about it?") and yelling, "No! I DON'T want to talk about it!" - Finally, a completely honest response to that incredibly lame question.

- Danarius flirting with my fem-Hawke (mage), then my mage saying a single word response in her vaguely British accent, "Charmed," before dropping a fireball into the room.

- My fem-Hawke mage in full-frilly dress (you know the one) saying, "Let's dance," to the Arishok. Then wiping up the floor with him, as a bas-sarebaas.  (That's for the Viscount!)

-Sebastian falling to his knees with despair at the bombing of the Cathedral.

There were a ton of other interactions I loved, but the most MEMORABLE moment was:
--the exploding cathedral and the oh-****-what-did-you-do-Anders moment. -- especially, since I knew it was coming from all the hints the game had been dropping since chapter one, and the desperation I had as a player trying to figure a way to stop it.

- at start on the boat arriving to kirkwall. Femhawke looking tierd and exhausted up through the fence..
-witty femhawke doing long road quest and commenting. best on wounded coast "aah this is painful" so funny, that really made my day. (femhawke facial animations, general preset model and voice by Jo Wyatt are such a keeper..  its a total win for such scenes. would love to see much more of those)
- realizing that leandra got targetted by the killer and following the blood traces.. uah
- meredith noticing that femhawke is a mage (had a cold shiver running over my back)
- last confrontation and which side to chose
- meeting Merril and her first nervous babbling. so cute
- anders bombin cathedral
- keeper & clan getting killed and poor merril heartbroken (would have loved to take her in my arms)
- carver joining templars..
- fenris turning on me in the last scenes (man i was upset)
- isabella coming back with the book (ture friendship, man i was impressed for real and quite surprised)
- killing arishok with female witty Hawke bas sarebaas  ^muahaha^<eg>. too bad we have no ME2 renegade action when he starts talking again on the floor.
- sister patrice getting shot by Qunari. (actually it was memorable because i couldnt kill the Qunary for that. I mean where are we that they can roleplay justiciar in a chantry ;o)
- Merril generall yasking for stuff making puppy eyes, and cinematic cam on closeup zoom on them. Fantastic. Would also not be able to say "No" to them. Magic eyes, such as the cat in Shrek ;-) Memorable also witty Hawkes sarcastic remarks to those situations ^^
- Merril crying over Pauls dead body

- realizing Orsino knew about the white lilies killer, and did nothing about it...

- the first time the chantry exploded

- Aveline calling Isabella a "****tern" ( I think that was the word? LOL)

- Getting my Bassrath-Kata from Taarbas (I was so proud .. and also made sure it was equipped by the last scene, just in case )

- After not killing Anders, the lame good-bye romance preach/speech ( I know its a bug, but its still left me with my mouth hanging open lol)

- most memorable - Carver coming back after being gone as a Warden... I couldn't stand Carver at first and always killed him off in the deep roads (LOL)... but, by chance, one time having Anders in my party, turning him to a Warden and the changes he undergoes... I took him and Anders every play through after that... Carver turned out to be the most sane, stable person in the game... even though he starts off as a colossal prig ; )

The bit where your mother dies is still in my head lol, I kept hoping she wasn't dead, when I saw her stand up with her face all cut up and her technically dead/being controlled by blood magic I actually convinced myself that she was still alive even though deep down I actually did know she was dead.

It kinda triggered emotion in me and as part of some psychological effect I ended up using all the anger dialog options when talking to the necromancer dude
