On recommendation I told my friend to pick up the free copy of Mass Effect 2 awhile back (the bioware celebration special thing) and after awhile she finally decided to actually play the awesome game but not after watching a shed-load of class videos and decided to keep bugging me on what one she should use...
now frankly I kind of got tired from it, so I told her I'd consult with the wise minds on the community (she has a werid...annoyance with forums) and ask them. So if you don't mind can you help her for me?

If I had to say It would personally be a soldier. Mostly due to the fact shes a very adaptive player on games like gears of war, Halo and so on so forth and as the soldier as access to all the weapons and ammo abilities, she could adapt her weapons to the situation. But at the same time she knows when to play defensively and when to push. (I've been on the receviing end of her pushes on certain games...it hurts...) but I wanted to see what other people say as I feel I dont have much experiance in the game to make a valid opinion

Thanks in advance ^_^

I'd probably advise going Soldier to begin with, simply because if it's your first playthrough and are not fully aware of how to use biotic and tech powers with other classes then it's easier to get a feel for the combat with a class that uses a variety of weapons.

Also the Adrenaline Rush ability lets you slow time down which is perfect for lining up sniper shots and for dealing with weapons with high recoil such as the Avenger assault rifle and the mighty Revenant LMG.

Also if you're interested there are other threads with strategy and builds guides here which can be helpful with how to play each of the six classes.

The problem with the Soldier class is that is way too similar to other games, IMO. Bullet time button + press fire. Nothing new

Adept and Engineer have a interesting learning curve and Vanguard can be tricky.

I'd say Infiltrator. Aside from shooting, you have fireballs and can hack robots. That pretty nice

Soldier is always the obvious first choice but it doesn't have any real "spells" and so you wouldn't get to try that part of the game. So:

Infiltrator if she likes sniping. Sentinel otherwise.

Soldier is definitely the most obvious choice. If you want a much more tactical and fun experience though, I'd consider playing an adept. With singularity, throw and warp and other biotics using pull you can use some very funny biotic combo's that make combat that much more fun (IMO).

Every class has pros and cons but so far I've had the most fun playing as an adapt. Plus: Adept with singularity VS Husks = win

The reason I don't suggest that is how weak they are at first. They can't even get the cooldown bonus until after Horizon. Might be a bit annoying to a new player. Sentinel on the other hand can do som of the same casting and has a powerful armor so you can CQC or whatever you want. Perfect to try out the weapons and spells.

But I agree that Adepts are awesome. They just take a little while to get there.

Actually an adapt can be pretty effective right at the start of the game. Warp is effective against armor and biotic barriers while the basic smg (should upgrade to locust smg asap) is good against shields. Then when you've removed protection you can have Jacob/Jack use area pull or shepard can use singularity, then finish them off with warp while they're still under the effect of pull/singularity and presto.

In my opinion, a lot more interesting than: Assault rifle, incendiary ammo, adrenaline rush, spray bullets, adrenaline rush, spray bullets, adr... you get the point:P

thanks for the suggestions. She said she'll probably play as the soldier as she believes its one of the more adaptive classes during a firefight.
I myself play as a Sentinel with a Mattock/Tempest/DLC pistol set-up it mostly stemmed from my own support/medic role back in ME1 when I rolled as a medic as a Sentinel.

She mainly wanted to go soldier to use the Revenant LMG as she noted that the Mattock and the other battle rifle isn't really a full auto weapon, but she'll keep the advice

My advice would be to roll a 1d6.

No, seriously.
