They could just add it as an option like how auto-level is when you first start the game and is available throughout the game. Solves everyones suicidal/sadistic/insane/non-suicidal/sane needs.

Makes no difference. Even when levelling manually (giving distanced talents), squadmates tend to rush in without any good reason. That's not the levelling system, that's the AI.

Is friendly fire going to be an
issue? I mean, how often do you send your squad mates directly in front
of you? It's never going to be more than 1 bullet from a rapid fire
weapon and that does hardly any damage anyway.

Yes it is an issue. Unless they make the squad AI smarter - since their tactics aren't the best.

^Squadmates tend to die by enemy bullets.

Also squadmate rarely get in the way in ME2, so problem with friendly fire?

ME3 is not ME2.

Your argument is very invalid.

Rarely? I've got somehow a different AI then then you do.... mine rush in half of the time getting the way in ME2.

Levels will be even bigger in ME3 so they'll spread out a bit more?

Yay.

Also, squadmate deaths on Insanity should be permanent as well, both gameplay and storywise,

They will also flank your ass a lot more than in ME2. Combine that with ME2's Insanity cranked up to eleven, and then nobody wants firendly fire.

I say nay, the weapon in Mass effect have IFF (indicator Friend/Foe) built-in, Which mean the gun shouldn't even fire if you aim an ally. Of course if it means deactivating the iff I say yay.

Again, how is friendly fire on squadmates an issue?

That would only make me reload save more often.

Yay. If someone doesn't like the idea because it's making Insanity even more difficult, then more yay. But honestly, I don't see how it would make too much of a difference with properly written AI, as "don't shoot friendlies" should be somewhere in the code. So really, allowing friendly fire indicates two things to me: 1) you, as Shepard, need to aim better and 2) AOE powers.

I have had plenty of moments where they're blocking my shots.

And what are the benefits of friendly fire if it's so restricted, anyway?

Every shooter I've played with friendly fire, it has proved to be annoying rather than challenging so I'm going to say no.

EDIT: No, I changed my mind. I say nay. But honestly, it all depends on how your squad works. If it's similiar to ME2, then it's a no

Nay. Since the squadmates' AI sucks balls (C'mon let's face it), friendly fire will be a nightmare and I will RAGE. So unless it has been vastly improved, for me it's a big fat NO.

Seeing as friendly fire is a change to combat, why is the assumption that squad AI would not change?

Nay. For me, it would be rather pointless, since on Insanity I just let my squad stay dead anyways.

Still, that area is clearly not one of BW strengths, but it would be nice if it does improve. As it is now, i just can't imagine doing a playthrough of ME2 with the AI as it is when your squadmates sort of run in front of you from cover to cover like headless chickens.

Unless it's an option, I'll stamp it with a big, fat NAY.

I'm pretty sure playing on Insanity difficulty is an option.

I'd be all for it.

Adds a level of difficulty that isn't just making enemies better bullet sponges, and is thematically fitting. There's always something slightly silly when Garrus or Grunt run in front of me and I think 'damn it, stop blocking my shots' as I riddle them with harmless holes.

Only if they improve allied AI. Have you tried playing ME1 with FF by modding the ini? It truly is a nightmare, friendlies either shoot you in the back or run infront of you. Then again that AI was made without FF in mind. So if they include FF then the allied AI will have to be changed.

Yes, exactly. Friendly fire would have made this video better.

I think I have to say Yay. I wouldn't mind it being an on off for casual through veteran mode either.
