I have an AMD FX-8150 as well, and am also experiencing this bug - I tried purchasing and installing the Pinnacle Station addon, to see if this made a difference, and it did not.
So if the previous poster was correct, it does require an older version of the DLC

Hmm... I also just tried uninstalling my steam-purchased version, and "acquiring" an older non-steam version. Made no difference...

For the love of everything, I did everything I could to solve this black pixel issue, I reinstalled graphic card, windows update, but it's not worked, my processor is an AMD FX™ 6100 and my graphic card is an ATI HD 6950 (modded to 6970).

Please can we know from the moderators or some one if the bioware intend to do something about this, because the patch realesed to solve this didn't work.

The PC version was converted by another game development house, not by Bioware possibly "Ossian", not Obsidian, they last worked on the Xbox version three years ago.  There was no AMD FX processor then, and there not only has not been any official patch to rectify the problems with the AMD FXes, there is not going to be.

Bioware never has had anyone watching this forum on this site, and that isn't going to change.

This bug doesn't seem "reasonable". What the heck could cause something like that - a rendering thread or something not properly timed?

Let me start off with saying, that I've tried nearly everything on here to try and fix it. My specs, are up to part trust me I bought this machine piece by piece and it has cost me around a grand to get everything and only made such a purchase two months ago. The issue sucks, wish there could be something done about it but besides switching hardware I don't see any future for a fix.
In light of this situation I bought the DLC "Genesis" yet was really disappointed not to see certian faces appear in ME2 and 3. If I have to power though a game with these blob issues I don't mind, truly. The story is great enough to where I can over look the Noveria part. However, Ilos is just dreadful. I may be complaining but I'm going to do it anyway, cause I love the game that damn much. With no fix in sight, I guess its safe to say. That maybe...the reason the game is doing this is cause our machines are becoming so advanced that they've got some sort of reaper coding into them, which is slowly trying to corrupt the game so we never know the truth.

^_^

There's more truth to what you wrote than what you realize.  It's the CPU folks.  Plain and simple. Posted Image
AMD changed a lot of things when they evolved from the K10 to Bulldozer...  This game doesn’t know any better and treats the new AMD CPU’s as the old AMD chips.  It gets confused at times when possibly trying to do certain things that the new chips don’t do such as the antique 3DNow extensions.
A long time ago, aside from Intel’s MMX extensions, most games only cared about the speed.  It's all architecture now.  And the new AMD CPU’s do not render things/run things like the old chips did.  That's my theory.  This would also explain why all pre-Bulldozer chips do not have this issue.
It was suggested previously that if the game could be "sincerely" fooled into knowing exactly what is installed in our machines, it should work.  I don’t think telling your system you have a K10 when you are running a Bulldozer (APU chips also) will work.  It would be a rather involved rewrite of the game itself.  It would have to be tested and then rereleased…  But I do have a solution!!!
Bioware should release a type of "Anniversary Edition" of the game from start to finish(all of it)!  They could take all the things they’ve learned with the new game engine and rebuild “Lucas-like” the game from the beginning to the bittersweet end.  Perhaps then, they will change some things in the “endgame” that would entice us even more to follow Commander Shepard once more into the darkness of space and questionable choices!  Posted Image
Just my opinion.

My new computer has a Bulldozer CPU in it. The performance is so good, but this glitch disappoints. Can always hope the Trilogy edition fixes it, right? :/

Don't forget, this is now EA, top to bottom. The founders have left the company. My own less-than-optimistic assessment is that no new fixes that aren't specific to current OS requirements are at all likely to be included. Since it's AMD that departed from the X86 standard, not Bioware or the UT3 game engine, THIS problem almost certainly will still exist.

Damn. I don't wanna swap out my CPU for an Intel one, it's a huge upgrade from my Core 2 Quad q9400. I'll just install it on my non gaming computer and just stutter through that level, haha

Has anyone tried using the command console and loading in any of the textures manually? It might be that this could cause the problem to disappear.

Another few things to do:

* Turn off user account control or set it to "never notify"
* Reload the texture pack used.
* Use a fan-based set of equipment? Does ME1 even have any mods?
* Try installing the DirectX SDK and make sure that EVERYTHING is installed.

I'm trying the last and possibly reloading the textures, but after I do Feros - I want to be able to check at each point along the way what textures are going to be loaded, and reload them by hand, if need be.

Keep us posted on reloading the textures, I hope it works.

Okay. Update: I was finally able to break it by doing the following commands:
viewmode texturedensity
viewmode wireframe

The minute you try to switch back to normal, it becomes this again. So we might just have to play ilos and peak15 this way until someone else (or myself if I get bored) can find another set of console commands to get things fully normal...

Also note: viewmode unlit works best. I suggest play from the garage until you get to rift station with unlit, save, exit, and everything else will be normal again when you reopen...

Thanks for figuring out something! Sorry for the noobish-ness, but how do you do that? And does it degrade the visuals at all?

The console directions are on gamefaqs.com under "cheats" for Mass effect. Once you put the tilde as your console key, you just got to either Ilos or Peak 15, let it switch you to the black shapes, then hit the tilde, type

viewmode unlit

and hit tilde again to return to game. It does degrade the game a bit - makes it look somewhat super-saturated, but it's easier to believe it's just super-lighting from fluorescents, and is by far better than those stupid boxes.

I suggest making sure you are inside peak 15 before running the command, as the typing and typos WILL eat your level 1 hazard time up...

Starting to think it's something lighting related if using 'unlit' fixes it. Still, thanks for finding a fix and for the help :D

How did these Bulldozer CPUs get messed up so bad? I had to flash my BIOS to the newest version just to get Portal 2 to load without BSoDing. The only plus side so far is that unlike on my old computer, The Sims 1 actually works O_o
