i'm not sure if this has already been addressed, i have seen one post by googling about audio balance, where sfx are freaking loud, and voices are to quiet.

but that's not my problem, mine is the whole game is to quiet.

well i've got music turned off, cause i don't like any of it.

i've got usb bose 5.1 speakers.

is there way way to crank the volume way up on this game.

right now my speakers are at 80 on volume control almost maxed and the game is still to quiet. dragon age plays at max volume, and my media player is almost muted but the songs are at normal sound level, i can hear the music just fine.

Sorry you're having problems. First off, let me preface this by saying that troubleshooting audio issues on PC is my weakest skill... but I'll try to point you into the right direction or call on some others to help.

To start, could you post your hardware specs and Windows information? Also, could you go into the game, go to "Options", select the "Audio" tab, and tell us what the settings are?

it's an hp
model: HPE-210y
AMD phenom II X4 945 processor 3.00 GHz
ram: 8 GB
Win 7 64-bit
graphics: ati radeon hd 5450

my speakers as far as i know from googling bypass the sound card and are not 100% compatible with win 7.

but it's: ati high defenition audio device
or it's the realtek high defenition audio

one of those may be my moniter it has speakers as well.

Is "Force Stereo" checked or unchecked?

no it says it's for headphones only, and i don't use my headphones all the time, the noizse canceling feature of my quiet comfort 2 headphones hurts my ears after a while and i'm not sure if i have any other headphones then those.

Okay... sorry, again, as this is not my field of expertise.

One possibility is to try it with "Force Stereo" checked... see if that makes a difference. If it does, then there's a problem with how your sound card or USB speakers are dealing with the audio data being sent from the game.

Now, if that does not work, I am a little stumped. There are, as you have no doubt noticed, not a lot of audio controls in DAO. So let's go under the assumption that this has more to do with how Windows is talking to your surround sound system. I wonder, is your Bose system even using your audio card, or does it essentially have its own audio card in it? Have you installed any drivers for the speaker system?

it's ok it might just be my speakers, i've had trouble with them since i got windows 7, they sometimes cut out and stop working for no reason and need reset on almost a weekly basis, i've googled and found out usb speakers are not compatible with windows 7.

but i keep using them because they spoiled me big time, listening to music on any other speakers just doesn't sound good anymore. but yeah i've looked up fixes for my speakers and i found nothing.

i'm going to try using my headphones and moniter speakers that will tell me if it's my speakers or not.

honestly i'm not sure how my speakers are getting sound, i know how to work a computer pretty good, but when it comes to programing and hardware i don't know much.

the only thing is i had to redownload dragon age, because the one i was using i downloaded it on my laptop and transfered it, aparently steam games don't work to well when you do that.

Hi Wildrivr,

Try going into device manager and shutting the ATI HD Audio off and see if this makes a difference, also I would make absolutely sure you are up to date with your audio drivers, I'm not familiar with your usb speakers, but if you went to the manufacturers site do they offer an update?

Not sure if the force stereo would be the cause but it is worth a try, however I would lookinto your sound card control panel and see if shutting off the eax option ( If you have that ) could be an issue.

Cheers! Wil SilverHeart

P.S.

Also if your sound card hasen't sync'ed with your windows audio for what ever reason, you may have 2 seperate volume controls, Eg. your speakers may be close to max volume but your windows audio control may be below half, thus making your volume seem low.

However I will say that I am now playing DA Awakenings and I find the volume low at times with NPC dialogue but it appears to be directional, ergo if your looking away from a charcater it is the games way of simulating that....Hey I'm not really paying attention to what that charcter is saying...

Not unlike us sometimes when we say, " Huh?..... What did you say, I wasen't listening... "

thanks but i'm just going to use my moniter speakers with fallout 3 and dragon age, they seem to put out better sound with those games.

and i'm not sure if my speakers have a driver at all, and honestly i'd rather just not use them for these games.

my normal speakers have prefectly balanced sound i can here the characters yell at me just fine, and i can hear them attacking the enemies as well. and i also don't have to worry about my media player making me deaf.

Hi Wildrivr,

Understandable, however I would still look into it to see if you have seperate comtrols for volume, and your usb's may be simply unplugging them , rebooting the computer and plugging them back in if you say there are no drivers for them, so that means they are jusat plug and play so doing this will allow the computer to detect them again.

And definitely check your sound cards manufacturer site for updates, I just recently did my SB Audigy2 ZS not knowing there was an update, and how old is that card lol. My windows update would always do an update for my sound but it always messed it up so I had to do it manually.

Cheers! And Have Fun
