I am not going to play DA2 unless the data transfer of DA1 details works properly.

From the release version, it did not - with massively corrupted details in most peoples games.

My question is this: Is data transfer fixed in the patch?

No, it's not. You can, however, fix it yourself by editing your save game using the GFF editor.

Really? Is that after using a magic wand to turn my console into a PC?

Yup, but it comes before you try to figure out what series of numbers you need to change.

I didn't bother using my DA1 data yet, the 3 presets we can use were enough for me so far...you should give it a try.

1) Locate 2da.rim at "...\\Dragon Age 2\\packages\\core\\data\\2da.rim"

2) Open 2da.rim using GFF editor (found here)

3) Scroll down to the very bottom and open "worldvault.gda"

4) Click on 10003

5) You will now see a vast list of events, mostly boolean functions (true or false) though there are also approval ratings and what not.

e.g.: 10003 --> 95 --> Landsmeet event, Alistair is engaged to Anora (the id of this event is 2020)

e.g.: 10003 --> 338 --> Leliana approval (id tag 1133); the value here is an integer from 0 to 100.

Do NOT edit this list, it is for reference only for what comes next.

6) Open your DA2 save game in another GFF window. It is preferable that you use a save game from before Act I.

7) Click on 16024

8) Now, as I understand it, you need to edit different things both in 17603 and 17607.

- 17603 contains, among other things, approval ratings for your companions in both Origins and Awakening. If you try to import one of your Awakening save games it won't work properly, you'll notice that all of your Origins' companions have an approval rating of 75, what pretty much kills any notion of romance you might have had. Furthermore, if Nathaniel is in there, he will too have an approval rating of 75 what means he either left or never joined the Wardens. What you need to do is simply change the 75 value to a number that pleases you (namely, 100). Unless I'm mistaken, the only approval ratings that matter are those of your love interests and Nathaniel, but if you want to, you can add approval ratings for all your companions (right click on one of the lines, copy, paste, then edit the values).

- 17607 contains plot flags for Origins, Awakening, and all DLC. Fortunately, they are all here, you don't need to add anything, simply search for the corresponding id tag and change the boolean to 1 or 0 according to your preference.

9) Save As and overwrite your save game.

10) If you have the console ingame, you can check flags, romances, etc., by typing "runscript zz_vault_debug" and choosing "Current World State." It will show you exactly what it is you've changed by editing your save game. If you don't like your choices, you can always edit your save game again.;)

Note: For those using the console version of the game, I really don't know how to fix this issue. Sorry.

Whats the point? stuff you did in DA:O is ignored in the second game anyway. I chopped Leliana`s head off and still she is in DA2 anyway....

Apparently 360 save games can also be edited using the GFF editor, see here.
